The question is who do the Sox replace him with?  Will it be a Clevinger sighting or a dumpster dive?

As for a dumpster dive what would stop another team from doing the same thing.

What would stop another team? A team like the Cubs really don't have the resources, rotation spots, or ability to punt a game or two right now to grab up a guy opting out of a minor league deal on the off chance that he just put it together in his last two PCL starts. And of the 7 teams, or so, positioned to take that gamble, not all 7 are geared up to support a starting pitcher the way the Sox are right now. Sure, anyone could grab up the next Adrian Houser, but we're kind of uniquely positioned with our ability to lose, and our dearth of depth at AAA right now.

I mean, f*** the Cubs, but the White Sox are in no position to worry about something this frivolous. If the Cubs have the best offer, you take it and run before they wise up. Taking a lesser retu

I’m not saying he won’t be good for them but I have a weird feeling about the cubs this season and don’t think they are destined for that crown.

if they want to send prospects for Houser, I’m all for it

They're a very flawed team that has yet to have every component working well together. St Louis and Milwaukee are pushing a lot harder on them now than it looked like they would in early June, but I still think the Cubs are the class of that division.

If they go big on pitching acquisitions I might change that opinion, but as it is they don't match up well with the Dodgers or Philly.

The best thing for the Sox is a lot of extra teams thinking they have a chance when they don't.

Can’t trade a stud like Houser to the Cubs, even if they get back a decent prospect.  Can’t help them win another WS.

I know this is sarcastic, but thankfully the Mets, Phillies, and Dodgers still exist.

"Cubs the division is now yours" since they didn't make upgrades

but strange things have happened in post seasons.

Unless the Cubs suffer a incredible rash of injuries to key players like the Sox the last few years, that division is easily won by them unfortunately.

And for Hoyer's future employment they better go deep into the playoffs having gambled on Tucker, who they aren't going to re-sign.

And they haven't looked NEARLY as good as they did at the beginning of the year.

The division is the Cubs to lose. They have by far the most talent.

And will add like crazy over next month.  Keller, Suarez and a closer.

It's been that way for years, but their owners would rather make money.

My guess at this point would be Cubs and Detroit in the WS. Probably the two best teams IMO.

We'll see what happens after the deadline but the Dodgers are going to be getting their injured guys back and figure to steamroll the N.L. Hell they are something like 18 games over .500 and that's with a bunch of guys hurt.

Nothing better than looking at a playoff berth and also making money.

Cubs over LAD when they get all their guys like Glasnow and Snell back and Cubs' Steele out for the year?

Better add significantly at the deadline.

Make that +24 already...quite similar to 2006 White Sox first half.

Already bored.

And not relying on Sasaki at all.

Some of the biggest money makers are the teams that don't spend

Answer:  Who cares, this season means nothing.  Same with the season after this one, and almost certainly the season after that.  Get guys who you have a chance at having in 2030.

You are very pessimistic.  I am hopeful that the newcomers, coupled with some Ishbia money, will have us playing some meaningful games sooner.

His money is paying debt and going towards a potential new stadium in the near future.   Until actually young talent arrives there is no foundation to add to.

Yeah I don’t know. I fully expect them to be running out bullpen games in the playoffs.

Yep, and I don’t necessarily think the Cubs are winning a WS this year but they ride the line of spending enough to compete without being crazy like the Dodgers.  I believe they were 10th in the MLB for opening day payroll at $196 million.

They are Jerry’s wetdream with mid payroll and twice the revenue.

Cubs just lost a starter for a month.  Maybe Getz can sell them on Houser/Civale?

Cubs placed RHP Jameson Taillon on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to July 1, with a strained right calf.

Taillon is expected to miss at least a month with the injury, making him very droppable in mixed leagues. The veteran right-hander is 7-6 with a 4.44 ERA in 17 starts this season. The Cubs said they’ll use a bullpen game to replace him Saturday, but they did recall Jordan Wicks, who could ultimately take the open rotation spot.

Houser is really on a heater since joining the Sox. What do we think he can realistically net us at this point? Can he get us a Top 200sh guy?
