(more athletic) I still don't understand why any team would take their worst defensive player and put them at 1B. They handle the ball more than anyone else which means greater chance for error. The absolute worst guys are usually stuck at DH. 1B is because they can't throw and/or have range. They mostly just catch the balls that other guys throw. Sosa is a man without a position, either make him the DH or bust his ass off next spring on how to play first base, maybe send him this fall to the instructional league. Not only would it be extremely disrespectful to send a major league player to the AFL, they literally cannot per AFL rules.

WBWSF
I can't help but wonder if the front office will try to sign Colson to a long term contract.

After that totally blew up in their faces with the last round of emerging talent? I doubt it. If Montgomery can sustain this type of success, we just have to hope that the Sox are under new ownership by the time he gets close to free agency. Otherwise, get ready for another Cease or Crochet-type trade to kick off the next "rebuild" Edited September 2 by 77 Hitmen 1

Needs to start walking more too. 2

BB% is at 6.5% currently, and surprisingly K% is only 27.7 which just by eye test I would have thought was higher since I feel like I see him K a lot. He will naturally start walking more if he keeps up with this power potential as more people start opting to not pitch to him in certain scenarios. pcq
Can't recall a prospect since Frank who is as good or better than advertised. Mags maybe. Non-pitchers.

Advertised? 3 months ago he looked like a bust! He hadn't lived up to his draft status at all...Frank dominated from day 1 in professional ball. And...as much as I enjoy watching Colson play and hope we have an "anchor" going forward...his poor start in professional ball will always be stuck in my head as a caution to get too excited!

I think this needs to be pinned to this thread. Not trying to rain on the parade. His power has been incredible and overall it’s been a very impressive debut, but it could/will get ugly really fast and then we’ll start getting the “bust” comments again. Fortunately he’s getting valuable experience and has time and room for much more growth.

Nothing flukey about his performance or output in my opinion. If anything, he's been incredibly unlucky running a 226 BABIP. While he wont run an iso of 314 more than likely, he also wont run a 226 babip. He's also been a +++ defender. Kid is a 4+ WAR player with just the power and defense. hogan873
His performance so far, extrapolated out to about 590 plate appearances, puts him on pace for 63 HRs. Obviously, he's not going to hit 63 HRs in a season, but 35+ is realistic. Along with improving (and already good) defense, he'll be a very valuable player. Of course, it's all about health, health, health.

Frank Thomas is one of the 25 or so greatest hitters of all time and a top 50 type all time player. Comparing him to anybody else in the world is going to be a tough ask. Colson has 2.3 bWAR so far. That is really good for a 22nd overall pick. Check out the overall results so far from that first round, he's near the top with a lot of busts so far. https://www.baseball-reference.com/draft/index.fcgi?year_ID=2021&draft_round=1&draft_type=junreg&query_type=year_round
