Both

Lot of it was bad choices.  How many teams would draft a non athletic Vaughn or a scrappy Madrigal.

This is nothing new.  Kenny liked those 2 sport college players.  If you play 2 sports in college you usually are not great at both.

Sometimes these picks that are offense first don't work since the best since the best bat .300 but what good is it that their defense is horrible and their speed is slower than Konerko.

Relying on other teams at scouting is nothing new here.

I often wonder did the prospects fail or did the Sox fail the prospects?

Still amazed how careers tanked during the TLR/Grifol era.

The big 3 of Moncada, Eloy and Robert have to be the biggest flops in MLB history for a trio of promising players. As Clint Frazier said they just didn’t want to play which didn’t surprise me, obviously when you don’t want to play you aren’t going to bust your butt working on trying to improve and get better, those 3 guys are IMO just plain losers and one of them is still with us.

there were worse - they did get short term production out of them

they became brittle

Yet they suffered under the TLR/Grifol era.  I guess the reason to trade Robert and Beni is they "played" under Grifol.  Some organizations like to purge players from a system of bad coaching.

That's what I like about Meidroth, Quero, and Teel.  It's obvious they want to play.

You took the words right out of my mouth, I almost posted that on my rant about the 3 stooges.

I think we might be able to add Colson and Baldwin to the group who want to play.

It also didn't help the Sox gave them huge contract deals before they really proved anything.

GM’s will do it all the time to save money and it makes sense, especially with an owner as frugal as JR.  Hahn just had the unfortunate luck of doing it with three of the lamest players in history.  Once they got that green, they weren’t very motivated.

They all had injuries which kept them off the field for extended time periods.  It is hard for some players to stay in playing condition when injuries impact their training regimes (i.e., if you can't run or get in the batting cage). I think they became too laid back or even lazy after sitting out with all the comforts from a big salary.  I hesitate to clump certain players together, but as long as a list of disappointing players is being discussed, I want to add Grandal, Vaughn, Kopech , Madrigal, Kimbrel and Liam Hendriks and I am sure we can all add some names. Lack of talent evaluation was and is  a major factor in  assembling a shitty roster.

Hendriks was an All-Star in each of his first two seasons with the Sox.  Then he was hit with cancer and TJ surgery.  He was nothing like the rest of those players.

About time.  Let’s see if he gets outrighted to Charlotte.

He'll clear waivers and be back in the organization soon. Like a bad penny the Sox keep getting their rejects thrown right back to them.

Who cares? They need bodies to play the games at Charlotte. I'm not sure why we need to feel deep shame over every aspect of every roster move. Capra's off the 26-man. Hooray!!
