2025 Trade deadline rumors thread

I think Sosa will hit; he also isn't the FO prototype and I think it's healthy to have a few players who are not the prototype especially for this unproven FO.  I hope they keep him (absent, obviously an overpay)

I think they'll move him with any decent offer because he isn't the prototype.

I think it’s worth keeping him to see what he does with more and more playing time.  I wouldn’t trade him for some mediocre lottery ticket.  But I agree with @Chicago White Sox that if you can get a similar type player as Sosa that plays the outfield, it would be worth it.  It’s just a shame his defense is poor and he has zero plate patience.

Looking around the league, there's a few playoff caliber teams running some substandard dudes out to 2B every day. Houston, Philadelphia, the Mets, the Reds - they could all see Sosa as a way to plug in some league average offense into a hole.

I think the rumor of the Mets wanting Sosa along with Robert is how he would be traded - a sweetener that would make trading a prospect for Robert more palatable to a fanbase.

Yea Sosa has some value on a contender looking for a fairly "safe" 1.5 WAR type to plug in at 2B. I think he's the obvious man out at the moment if we do decide to trade an IF. I like him, obviously, but a 2 WAR 2B isn't making any difference any time soon for our team if we can package him to get a quality like B+ type OF prospect that would be fine.

The Getz regime clearly prefers hitters that will work at bats and take their walks. Sosa walks at 2.7%. His best minors rate is about 5.5% which is well below a 10% preferred rate.  If he got to 5.5 % his ops+ is closer to 110 which could work. He has always struggled at a level then improved. League average to slightly better is nothing to throw/give away. He is 25 years old so still time to improve with all facets of his game. He plays winterball. Wonder if he should try outfield then to further the utility profile

His defense needs a lot of work in my opinion.

Also just my opinion but the Sox need to stop trying to make seemingly all their guys into "utility" players supposedly able to play multiple positions.

How about becoming competent, even very good at ONE position?

Put together a solid lineup/order and stay with it.

There is nothing wrong with the right guys learning more positions,  but #1 on the list is for them to start before the majors.

Also, if you were going to trade for Houser, wouldn't you make the trade sooner, rather than later, like two days ago?

If a team had acquired him say yesterday, that's two more starts you can get out of him before the end of the trade deadline. He's only for this year, so I would think a team would want to get every start they could possibly get from him?

So if a team is struggling with starting pitching, they're probably hurting right now, and not just in ten days at the deadline. It's seems dumb to wait on this trade for a team contending for a spot that needs starting pitching.

Houser's probably a fallback option, and the market hasn't even been established yet. Guys like Tyler Mahle or Merrill Kelly could be on the block, or not.

I'm sure they are trying to acquire it now. However the teams trading the pitchers away are also trying to get as much as possible in return. This may not work right now. That's why the trades happen at the deadline. Negotiations on both sides give a little. They aren't willing to do that right now.

For sure Getz says ok you want him now, you're not the only one. Give this guy or these players and he yours and you do that with every team that calls. Always ask high ,someone may capitulate unexpectedly then if no one bites you compromise. Like if you want one guy in particular you ask for 2 guys. Maybe the other GM says I'll give u one not both . Great the trade is half done , now you say ok how about pairing this A ball guy with him ? Always have others guys you'd take in lower levels in mind. You're going to hear a lot of No's before you work it out. Hopefully  you're good with some quickly. Can't still be working on 6 trades  2 hrs before the deadline.

Those 2, especially Mahle, seem very Houser-like.

All I’m reading or seeing from the national guys is that there aren’t gonna be high impact players available, have to think this helps the Sox get better returns for Houser, possibly Martin/Cannon, Tauchman, and Robert, at least I hope it does.

Yeah, hopefully the dam breaks in the next day or two and we start to see some movement.

No doubter:

Adrian Houser

Trade Value Maybes:

Mike Tauchmann (1 cheap yr remaining)

Steve Wilson

Dan Altavilla

No Trade Value, But Try to Move:

Luis Robert

Andrew Benintendi

Not sure if someone would even consider:

Austin Slater

Tyler Gilbert

Aaron Civale

O’s will be sellers at the deadline. Makes our rebuild look successful.

Remember the two O’s fans that come to Soxtalk to do prospect clutching and being cheap over the Cease deal?

Robert has SOME value at least.

Slater and Taylor definitely have value, too. Tyler Alexander could be a guy that a team who has missed out on every bullpen lefty gets with some DSL arm.

And I really don't know if the Sox see Eisert as a dude going forward, or just a fix and flip candidate.

Austin Slater is 41% better than league average against LHP.  There will be plenty of teams looking to acquire him.

Yep a team will trade for him to platoon in the postseason

Can't see them trading Robert if this recent surge is an indication of good things to come. It'd be a PR disaster. Sox aren't spending any money and are making big time bucks as a franchise so it doesn't hurt having one highly paid guy. Trading Robert will anger the casual fan.
