See SS2K post above, this is a 25 man roster with experienced baseball people throughout the staff. That's their job.

So every person in professional sports is wrong, and non-athletes who watch the TeeVee have more knowledge about how players are brought along. Where's the Simpsons gif?

Every single professional sports team values veteran leadership. Probably because it's meaningless.

I've had it pounded into my head that the Fletcher trade and the trade that brought DeLoach both sucked the day they were made because Fletcher and DeLoach are too old and won't be part of their future.

Tauchman asked to not be traded because his daughter had a surgery, and he wanted to be close to his family. That doesn't render a trade bad in retrospect. Yes, had I known players they acquired were going to be bad, I would have not wanted them acquired.

Veteran leadership isn’t meaningless, but it’s definitely less important for a bad team that is going to lose 100+ games.

Where are Fletcher and DeLoach right now?  Haven’t the comments about those two acquisitions been proven true by now?  The only future they appear to have is with Charlotte or some other team’s minor league system.

I wouldn’t be surprised that outside of Tauchman’s daughter situation, Getz realized he could fill RF very cheaply in 2026 with the extra year of control.  I wouldn’t be surprised if the Sox had kept Tauchman, even without the daughter situation.  Jerry likes cheap players.

Don’t forget Julks and Ramos…

I don’t even know what you’re rambling about here unless you’re talking about something someone else said when replying to me.

Young man's game right now.

All about early extensions that guarantee generational wealth and cut a year or two off Free Agency for premium talents.

JR learned this lesson the hard way when deals for Moncada, Jimenez and Robert went the wrong direction.

Not even sure who the Sox would extend anyone if they could, as Colson still represents significant risk from an injury as well as future performance perspective.

Pitcher extensions?

Forget about it.

White Sox one of the few rebuilding teams with so many guys coming into org already late 20s or even 30s...

Sox weren't even one of the five youngest teams on OD...

Of the top 10 oldest teams in the majors, 8 rank in the top 10 in team payroll. The two outliers—the Red Sox and Chicago Cubs—rank 11th and 12th, respectively, in the 2025 payroll.

Of the top 10 youngest teams in the majors, 7 rank in the bottom 10 in payroll. The three outliers—the Tigers, Twins, and Cardinals —rank 17th, 18th, and 19th, respectively, in the 2025 payroll.

White Sox were 8th youngest, fwiw.

Veteran presence is so valued in the game that veteran pay has declined since the last CBA and guys like Tauchman are practically available for free.

Getz stressed that veteran presence played a huge role in the deadline deals….yuck

What a boner.  He’s like two to three years too early on this new kick of his.  Just like trading for veteran relievers that ended up sucking balls.

Remember Getz’s first offseason priority of defense and leadership?  Yeah, that worked wonders…

If it were me, I would love my "veteran leadership" to actually be able to show the kids what it is like to be successful at the major league level on a daily basis.

Unfortunately, Tauchman misses too many games due to injury to be there everyday to fulfill that role.

Yep.  He’s a nice platoon/part-time guy on a good team.  A rebuilding team like the Sox should be giving those at bats to a young OF.  Problem is, Getz hasn’t acquired any outfielders worth giving those at bats to yet, outside of a not ready yet Montgomery.

Look, this is one of the few "veteran presence" guys who actually did the job he was paid to do, so I will give them props for getting the scouting right in this case.  But these fill a hole filling signings are the things you celebrate with an 85 win team trying to eek a bit more out of a roster, and not a 41 win team looking to build a critical mass of kids to rebuild with.

From my perspective, you should be teaching people the right way to play the game and developing maturity in the minor leagues.

The big leagues is about talent and doing your job: when you arrive, you should already know the right way to play.

Absolutely.

Yeah, "here's what success looks like" vs "here's how to deal with failure." You'd think the coaches would have the latter covered.

Oh hey buddy, how's that post coming where you show how I've spent the past year belittling anyone who felt negative about the team?

I dont really care to waste time looking through your post history. In your interactions with me, thats certainly been the case.

If you think im wrong, im not gonna lose much sleep over it, and if I am wrong then my bad. Either way, not really worth spending anymore words on it.

Fair enough, and definitely a waste of time. I just hate when this site shows its toxic Twitter-esque side from time to time. We are better than that.

We just saw a clubhouse descend into chaos without any character veterans. But now, veteran presence isn't necessary. U guys R funny.

I won’t speak for others but I said that while it is important, it isn’t the most important thing, especially for a team that is expected to be bad anyways.

Afterall, what would a team without any veteran leadership do — set a record in losses and then follow that season up with another season on pace for 100+ losses?  Oh dear, that would be tragic.  🤣

There were guys who were supposed to be veteran leaders those on the “chaos” team

Jose Abreu was gone by 2023. I don't think they signed Clevenger for his leadership skills. Lynn, Graveman, Grandal and Joe Kelly all kind of stepped around their responsibilities.
