I’d definitely add a veteran OF if we end up moving Robert.  I love me some Brooks Baldwin and want to see him get everyday at-bats whether in one spot or moved across the field.  He put up a 119 wRC+ after July 1st and should be given a chance to improve his defense in the OF.  Pereira is an interesting low stakes gamble, but I would not just hand him a job.  Pencil him in as a platoon partner for someone (Baldwin for now) and make him force his way into more playing time.  If Robert goes, see if you can find another Tauchman like guy on the cheap.

I still think they’re a good fit for a guy like Bleday.

For the record, I don’t believe Acuna for Robert alone would get the job done, the Mets would likely have to add to their side. But the fit is certainly there for a potential trade down the line.

This is the second time this Acuna rumor has popped up.  Can someone explain to me Getz’s obsession with this no bat scrub?  He put up only a .751 OPS in the minors for cripes sake.  The only thing he has going for him is youth.  He turns 24 in March.  There’s a reason he is in every Mets trade rumor and they are probably dying to trade him.  I’d rather roll the dice on younger prospect than this guy.

If they could get him to make better swing decisions, they'd have a CF with a lot of speed. As it is, he profiles as a utility dude.

Originally signed by Texas and then traded for future Hall of Famer Max Scherzer at the 2023 deadline, Acuña made his big league debut in 2024 and was essentially the team’s everyday second baseman this year, with the occasional rep at shortstop or third base, before he was sent down just before list publication. He graduates from rookie status projecting as a good utilityman. Acuña’s best swings are blazingly fast for an athlete his size, though he’s sometimes out of control and pulls off a ton of soft stuff away from him to generate all that power. He has an inside-out approach and tends to only be able to spray fastballs to the opposite field. He’ll likely hit for less game power than he has raw because of his approach. On a contender, he has the offensive skill set of a luxury utilityman.

Acuña came up as a shortstop and has experience all over the diamond, but at the big league level, he has mostly played second base. In anticipation of the infield logjam ahead of him, both the Rangers (Seager and Semien) and Mets (Lindor and McNeil) gave Acuña some center field reps during the past couple of seasons, though barely any in 2025. When he last saw frequent action out there (2024), he looked pretty good despite having not played the position for very long. He’s much more comfortable breaking right than left, and has plus closing speed. While his hands can be clumsy, Acuña has the arm for any infield position; his exchange can be a little slow, but his pure arm strength is plus. He projects into a Dylan Moore sort of utility role.

Exactly my point.  He looks like a utility guy.  He didn’t hit in the minors.  I’d rather roll the dice on younger prospects.

While Robert might be one of the best CF options on the market this winter, I still don't think he's going to bring back all that much. And Acuña's only 23

If it was more than $10 they would have just given him the buyout and moved on.

He’ll turn 24 on March 12th before the season starts.  Still not very old but he is looking like a broken prospect à la Vargas and Mead at this point, and I would avoid him like the plague.  Also, to think the Sox could be the team to fix his swing would be foolhardy.

You may be on to something.  Although some people in this Reddit thread seem to think he has sources.  I guess he may be no different than some “White Sox insiders”.

It wasn't really a scoop. The Mets reportedly have kicked the tires on Robert this off-season. He's only recalling that Acuña's name came up in previous discussions.

I would need at least one of Baty, Vientos, Benge, or Sproat in return 

I know Robert is hurt a lot but if they’re not getting anybody that doesn’t at least have a higher ceiling, it’s really not worth trading Robert then. I’d rather lose him for nothing than just trade him for the sake of trading him.

If no-bat utility guys were the best we could get for Robert at the deadline, I can't imagine the offers will be better now with a $20M price tag.
