In a perfect world we draft Roch and he’s as good as advertised and his arrives at the same time as Ishbia takes over franchise, we lock up Roch with a long term deal as he debuts then Ishbia opens the wallet to field a perennial playoff team for years to come.

This is definitely a big step in the right direction for this franchise.

If you were a ticket rep, I would totally be buying with that pitch...but luckily you/they do not have my phone number.

  • This is the best news they could have received from these meetings. I do question Getz referring to it as an honor. Dude, it pretty much means your team really sucks.

  • Getz should get drunk tonight and sign an outfielder.

The first Sox game after Cholowsky was born was a walk off winner. Down 3-0 going into the 9th the Sox rallied with a couple homers from Pauly, JD, and a winning sac fly from our shortstop Uribe. It was meant to be.

I specifically remember being at that game and that 9th inning was so exciting....after the Sox scored their 2nd run, the guy sitting next to me who I did not know excitingly said to me "they are gonna win this one!!!" and damnit they did.

Everything coming out says Bonemer won’t stay as SS

And that's fine. BA suggests he could be put into the OF or 3rd.

Quote

BA Grade/Risk: 60/High

Adjusted Grade: 50

Track Record: Bonemer was a showcase star in the summer before his senior year at Okemos High in Michigan, with the White Sox drafting him in the second round in 2024. He broke camp with Low-A Kannapolis in 2025 and exceeded even the highest expectations. He batted .281/.400/.458 with 10 home runs and 27 stolen bases in 96 games to earn Carolina League player of the year honors before finishing the year with 11 games for High-A Winston-Salem.

Scouting Report: Bonemer has an advanced approach at the plate, especially impressive for a teenager. He’s made swing adjustments since turning pro, flattening his plane and improving his rhythm, which has helped him make better contact. Bonemer connects on pitches in the zone and has a knack for finding the barrel with above-average bat speed. He should get to plus power at his peak. At times, Bonemer has inconsistent separation in his load but has shown the aptitude for continuous improvement. Questions remain as to his ultimate position. He likely will not stay at shortstop, especially with 2025 first-round pick Billy Carlson coming up behind him. Bonemer can be an average defender at third base, where he spent some time late in the season. He makes the routine plays, and his average arm will be enough for the position, but some observers believe he eventually could wind up in the outfield. An average runner, Bonemer stole 29 bases in 37 attempts, but he may slow down to fringe-average as he matures physically.

The Future: While Bonemer faces questions as to his ultimate position on the field, his bat is real and profiles him as a potential above-average regular. He’ll return to High-A Winston-Salem in 2026 and has a chance to reach the upper minors later in the season.

Scouting Grades Hit: 55 | Power: 60 | Run: 45 | Field: 50 | Arm: 50

I very, very vaguely remember that game. Great pull.

Attendence was 10.4k? Jesus.

We just injected a potential 30 WAR into the next 7 years at no real financial cost. This is a big deal. Don't screw it up.

And if, after those 7 years, he's good enough for a huge payday, it'll likely be Ishbia signing the checks at that point.

Roch went from good player to great player in a few sentences. Shirley has to be giddy.

My off the bat impression is that the Roch kid and the Grady kid both look nice AF. Can't go wrong with either at this point. We'll see how the season goes for the youngsters.

Ultimately, they had better pick the best player at 1-1.

I've been trying to get him to come up with a new nickname or even ACKNOWLEDGE his past as the undisputed king of nicknames on soxtalk. He refuses to even respond to me when I bring up his past as the defacto nicknamer. Its really a shame. He's running from who he is.

I think we need to ratchet up the pressure and threaten to ban him unless he gives an honest effort at giving Roch a nickname.

While getting Roch is nice, it’s as much about getting the extra $2mill or so for the rest of the draft. I may be off but, whatever the delta. Nice to have.

This is huge - real great news. Top pick plus extra pool money to get added high end talent. They have a lot of work to do still but this is a real positive!

Yay.

We EARNED that s%*#.

Sir, you coined Drain Duo for Lavine and Lauri.

Surely you can gift us something for Colson/Roch/Carlson/Bonemer

Always pretty skeptical of the "generational hype" moniker that is thrown around this time of year for baseball. A lot can change between now and draft day, so let's see how people progress and perform.

Either way, it's not bad news to get the #1 pick and nice to have something go right for once. It's a shame that Getz is the one making that pick because he blows.

I'll admit I don't know much about the 2026 draft class, or even Roch, but it seems he's the kind of player that could potentially make it to the major league team pretty quickly.  If they do draft him, could he be on the field in 2027?

I like also what I've read about the amount of money the Sox will have for draft picks.  It sounds like, if they do things right, they could really change the future of the club.

I don’t even remember the last time the presumed #1 guy in winter was 1.1.

Skenes had to be, right?

The jury is still out on Getz.  He has had some misses, but Shane Smith, Vasil, the Crochett trade, the addition of Fuller and Bannister to the front office, and the hiring of Venible are all positive in my view.  Jerry hasn't given him free rain to do as he pleases, would be my guess.

Yeah, Getz wasn't qualified to get the job, and he works for one of the worst owners in sports.  He's done some good things with the limitations he has.  I don't think anyone else hired would be doing a dramatically better job, considering there's next to no money dolled out.  Someone with experience may have been better at trades for sure.  But as you mentioned, Getz has surrounded himself with better people.

I don't think he'll be the GM when Ishbia takes over unless he really does some magical things over the next few years.

He just might succeed in spite of JR.  The future looks a lot brighter after yesterday.

Yeah, usually those are the ones that end up Arod/Griffey type status.  Big difference between COULD be #1, and this kind of talk
