This reads like the kind of careful answer you give when you need to pretend he's not already your guy

  • This is the best news they could have received from these meetings. I do question Getz referring to it as an honor. Dude, it pretty much means your team really sucks.

  • Getz should get drunk tonight and sign an outfielder.

Bob talking draft is the funniest thing ever.

Look, talk radio in general is a waste of brain power, but sports talk radio is the absolute worst. These guys are literally saying dumb s%*# to fill time and get people to call and email.

2-2, hr, 2 bb, 3 runs, 3 rbis

Probably got him confused with Seattle prospect.

His name is Colt, Bob don't know (amateur) ball.

I never know why people react so emotionally when a reporter passes on to the readers something someone said to them. A GM near the top of the draft told Bob that he believes his team has a shot at Roch. That’s not 100% nonsense by definition. At most, 99%

It's more because he clearly has zero understanding of how the draft works while being a baseball reporter. His whole premise makes no sense. In no world will Roch turn down $11m to return to UCLA because another team offered him $14m.

I’m gathering the actual scenario would be that the Sox really begin to heat up on Emerson first as a player, not as a discount.

If that's not the case and they picked Emerson anyway...in order to buy Getz more time for example, that would be beyond idiotic.

If it ended in "ski" it would be slam-dunk Polish

Even if he didn't want to play for the Sox, draft him anyway. He could still sign.
If he doesn't sign, Sox get #2 pick next year, right? Unless Emerson and someone else are generational players and far superior to the top of next year's draft, it will work out fine.

Sure as Stanky used to be Stankiewicz!

with as much blowback that's happened since that Nightengale piece came out about the Sox not being sold on Cholowsky being the top guy/wanting too much money, did anyone else chuckle at how much shine they gave Roch today during the game broadcast?😂

Except pushing back the window until 2029 with McDougal's injury and the delayed pick's debut 2028/29 at the earliest (if an NCAA position player and not prep.)

Worked for the Astros with Aiken.

But no guarantees.

Roch was billed as a generational/transformational prospect. Lately I've been hearing he's a "high floor" prospect. That's quite a difference. So I'm wondering, which is he?

Both. The floor is a solid 3-4 WAR SS with 6-8 WAR ceiling.

I haven't heard any generational talk. Phrase is overused anyway, but he's a solid prospect. Lacks elite tools.

I think he's seen as the top since Skenes/Crews, which is definitely a good spot for the Sox to be.

Calling him just a solid prospect (going off overall prospect grades from Pipeline and FanGraphs) feels like an undersell. He's a 65 overall at Pipeline and 55 at FanGraphs. That makes him Pipeline's #3 prospect and in FG's Top 30 (only draftee).

I think the only question is has he topped out, or does he have another level. I do think with some of this, there was the idea that he might still have another level, to make him generational, but he hadn't really shown a step up this year which would separate him from the rest of the pack.

I do think he is a guy who will be on the Gordon Beckham path to the majors and will probably be in Chicago by July 4, 2027 in some form, and that is as is, today. Can he push into that next level of a regular all star? Well that seems to be the question as of today. While he might not have separated himself, I don't think there is any question he grades out as a really good MLB starter.

Always thought the narrative on him was that you usually don't see SS of that level make it to college, and that he's one of the safest high level prospects in recent years and also has significant upside.

That's exactly it. It's just prospect fatique and boredom trying to find a reason not to draft him at this point. Doesn't help how ignorant the people paid to cover this stuff are as well, starting up non sense discussions with no basis in reality.

They'd fit in well here!

2026 MLB Draft Report: Are the White Sox not sold on Roch...

2026 MLB Draft is still a couple of months away but would the Chicago White Sox pivot from selecting Roch Cholowsky first overall? Sox Machine's Josh Nelson explores the possibilities.

Worked for Astros, not for Aiken. He had one too many agents. There were others.

All I know is that I'm Roch hard
