Skenes had to be, right?

I could be mis-remembering but I thought Dylan Crews had legit helium all year. I didn't think Skenes was projected 1.1 prior to his final college year - where he went nuts. And let's not forget the Jacob Gonzalex top 5 hype ;)

This reads like the kind of careful answer you give when you need to pretend he's not already your guy

  • This is the best news they could have received from these meetings. I do question Getz referring to it as an honor. Dude, it pretty much means your team really sucks.

  • Getz should get drunk tonight and sign an outfielder.

Roch is older than Carlson and will have had 3 years of college ball behind him when he signs. He figures to hit the majors first. Still, I'm really looking forward to Carlson getting his first pro at bats. I still don't  understand why he was held back after signing.

Sir, you coined Drain Duo for Lavine and Lauri.

Surely you can gift us something for Colson/Roch/Carlson/Bonemer

That was actually for Mirotic and McDermott first

Hopefully, whoever gets taken as number i, is the start of our ascension from the ashes.

I was unsure, thought Crews was still riding high then. Can’t trust my memory anymore.

Yes this was what I remembered but that could have been from summer before.

I don't know what folks were saying the winter before but Crews was definitely being talked about as a potential 1-1 all the way up to draft day.  Maybe Skenes was the obvious pick all along but there was definitely talk about what the Pirates would do.

Will the White Sox be the winners of the Winter Meetings? Maybe the Phillies?

Roch went from good player to great player in a few sentences. Shirley has to be giddy.

Unless there's some horrible injury or major underperformance next college season, there's no way this guy isn't going #1 right? Like, there's no way that the White Sox don't get cute here and mess this up?

Meidroth at 2nd, Roch at SS, Colson at 3B and Bonemer in LF? that feels like a group ready for 2027...which is why Roch should be picked over any 17/18 year old prep.

I've been trying to get him to come up with a new nickname or even ACKNOWLEDGE his past as the undisputed king of nicknames on soxtalk. He refuses to even respond to me when I bring up his past as the defacto nicknamer. Its really a shame. He's running from who he is.

I think we need to ratchet up the pressure and threaten to ban him unless he gives an honest effort at giving Roch a nickname.

Who came up with the banger, HotFiRe??? (or however the caps were randomly inserted in that abomination)

Meidroth vs. Antonacci for 2B.  I may be the biggest Meidroth fan on this board, but he’s got to find a way to impact the baseball and/or draw more walks.  If not, he becomes a high UT guy off the bench with Antonacci likely claiming the 2B job.

Bonemer does feel destined for LF the more thought I put into it.  Just not sure he will be ready by 2027 Opening Day or not.  Big year ahead of him.

that was the aforementioned Chili.

Now that he's older though I'm sure the slang would adjust to what is now currently the great things in his life.

You're forgetting Carlson, perhaps the best defensive shortstop in the bunch. Nice problems to have for once.

He’s not going to be ready by 2027 though.

Josh Nelson makes some good points that there's a couple great options at the top of the list. Grady Emerson might even be a better talent.

A challenger to Roch Cholowsky? Let the debate begin over who the White Sox will select first overall - Sox Machine

Fair.....I forgot his age.

Emerson has one of the strongest arms I've seen from a HS SS. Perfect game clocked him at 90mph and you can see that in the film on him.

IMO, Antonacci is essentially the same player as Meidroth. I get the excitement around his performance, but I'd expect someone else at 2B with these two battling it out for a bench role if/when this team is ready to compete.

It's nice to have depth. We finally have some up the middle.

Would they really go against the consensus top pick (assuming that he is)?

I think so. If Cholowsky wants full slot or has a stumble. Josh talks about how he seemed to slump when facing better pitching last year.

Here's the fun part.  Let's say the worst case scenario happened, and the Sox fell all of the way to #7 this year.  With the draft slots as they were last year, the #1 pick got a slot just over $11 million.  #7 got about $7 mil.  Even if you look at JUST the 5% overage part of the draft pool, this pick creates something like an extra $200k in draft pool spending without losing a pick, even if you have to give one dude the entire slot for #1.  That $200k is basically being able to take an extra shot at the type of HS picks the Sox typically make after the 10th round, or at the end of the draft.  Unless there isn't clear separation between the guys at the top, you HAVE to take the consensus best talent, and move on.

I view them as being similar (especially bat to ball skills) but different.  Antonacci has more power potential, but is not nearly as selective (as Meidroth is a unicorn in that regard).  Chase is definitely the superior defender.  No guarantee either is the starting 2B come 2027, but I think it’s the most likely outcome at the moment.
