White Sox acquired RHPs Jordan Hicks and David Sandlin from BOS

At quick view this Sandlin doesn’t seem too special so it makes sense. I think people (myself included) thought it would be a better piece). Again I know nothing about Sandlin so anyone feel free to make sense of why it makes sense that we need to pay Hicks $8M a year for 2 years to get him. Almost would have made sense to just sign a reliever.

Unless they think they can fix Hicks and also flip him later but still, feel like you can do that in free agency.

I think pitchers the Sox acquire who have under performed fits into a range of things the Sox feel they can work with.

Let Getz cook.

Getz MASTER CLASS

It’s a good trade with the money included as well.  But Hicks at $8 million a year could still be bad, haha.  Hopefully he turns it around and gets back to his St. Louis days of performance.

I was just about to type that it is a bit embarrassing to act like they couldn’t make these moves because another $20M was on the roster.

Oh yeah he isn't good, but hopefully the Bannister/Bove see something that's fixable.

Also, $8 million a year for the next 2 years is a drop in the bucket for the White Sox anyways considering their payroll.

is it time to make even another trade?   if not, who’s coming off the 40 man roster?

I dont know enough about Hicks or Sandlin to render a useful opinion but Red Sox fans seem to be dancing in the streets to be rid of Hicks.

I like taking the Hicks risk IF we are using him out of the bullpen… I don’t care for the prospect we got back, or the one we are giving though..

Oh wow Sandlin was a bit better prospect coming back than I saw was expecting. Hopefully he stays healthy.

Technically, the Sox are spending $3 million over what was left from Robert trade, which was about $5 million.  Hicks is $8 million a year.  🤣

Worth noting we added two 40-man guys so including Hays, we need to clear 3 spots.

60 day IL opens next week but I'm not sure how long they have to make things official

I still think there has to be a Sosa move SOMEWHERE. I'd love for them to just drop Benintendi, though.

Best case is Hicks looks good and is traded before he earns the 8 million so JR makes a profit lol.  Sandlin doesn't need TJ but did they see something on medicals?

So is Hicks the starter or reliever?

I’m guessing starter

I mean, he put up a - 1.1 WAR in 18.2 IP for them last year, which is almost impressive in how bad he was lol. So that makes some sense.

Low risk move by the Getz, sounds like the prospect they got back has some potential, even if he ends up in the pen…type of moves they should be making.

A lot of questioning of JR when he hired Getz. No matter what you think of them, recognize that Chris has worked his ass off trying to make the White Sox into a likeable, competitive team. I think he is on the way to doing just that.  I'm psyched for ST and opening day. Let's Go !

Maybe the Sox put him with Newcomb?

Yeah need to pitch him out of the pen only

Interesting move. Not really sure what to think of it.

Sox now need to clear three 40 man spots.

True. Too bad we couldn’t announce this then but the Red Sox are probably about to add a free agent so they want the open space now I’m sure

Their time didn’t overlap so don’t think this is true. Pretty sure BB was gone when they signed Hicks

James is referring to how they left their heart in San Francisco.
