If the risk is that the Sox can't resist giving bad players at bats, then there's nothing that can be done to save them.Another way to think on Doyle is look at Peters lack of offensive production - we’re still winning with that absent production.Perhaps we gain some offense at catcher while we also start working towards a Vargas like turn around with Doyle.A lot of the problems Vargas had before breaking out mirror the issues Doyle has had over the last year and a half… and he also has been hurt.Just returned Friday so the health issue is no longer a concern, apparently. It’s either a sneaky move or it fails.

It’s fine if they no longer feel that way, but I would have pursued a different option than this. I have zero confidence in this guy batting against lefties in a playoff game. Also, it’s not like this guy came free…we gave up two legitimate prospects. I know it’s fun to downplay Adams around here, but he could have used for some other upgrade.Again, I’m hoping they plan to send him to Charlotte and let him work through s%*# before considering him an option for the major league squad. If this is a hedge for Pereira as the platoon CF and not a replacement I’d feel much better.I’m not gonna argue Hill because clearly that guy found something and has continued with it, but you saying you would feel more comfortable with Doyle as the platoon with Pereira is very strange considering how little Pereira has played and honestly how chaotic everything has been with him. Up until his good game yesterday he was straight garbage, replacing him with someone who won’t get hurt every couple weeks doesn’t bother me at all. At least you can rely on them. Every angle Pereira takes makes me wonder if he will get to the ball

These are not the same discussion and what I am currently discussing is how these players fit in and play with this team until the end of this contending season. You are worried about what happens in a strike season and honestly you should throw that out the fuckin windowIn regard to who?I don’t think you should be buying projects at the deadline for the most part. That was the point of my post. Jake said it’s dumb to look at past performance when evaluating potential acquisitions and I don’t agree when there are only two moths left in the season. The window to contribute is incredibly short and if “fixes” are required to derive value out of a player then that’s risky.I think Castillo is upgrade over Schultz & Fedde, but how much is the big question. And that comes down to whatever fixes they have in mind. I would have preferred someone with a higher floor (doesn’t require fixes to provide a meaningful upgrade) or a higher ceiling (someone who if fixed can greatly increase your chances in the post season). And for the overall cost I don’t love it, but that’s admittedly more of a 2027 concern. Not sure what part of my opinion you are disagreeing with.

Tell me the last time Romo hit 23 bombs, stole 30 bases, and gave you 70 RBI while providing gold glove defense.Yes, he regressed last year and has sucked this season but he has been hurt… and his advanced metrics are flashing the same problems that Miggy had before we turned him into a monster. After taking some time to dig into this initial head scratcher, I fully get it.

He's striking out 41% of the time and has a .424 BABIP and his expected numbers are worse than they were with the Sox. Not really something to lose sleep over.
