On Baseball Trade Values (take this with a grain of salt), Dominguez has -$10 mil surplus value and Castillo is at -$-17 mil. I'm not sure how much value Smith has, but it's probably close to $5-10 mil depending on how you value him.

Unless we're getting some money back, we lost on this trade from a surplus value perspective.

A change in scenery can change things for the better or worse. The Sox got Kimbrel in 2021 from the Cubs and he sucked

He still has 98 in his back pocket and fastball averages 95.3. Stuff is still there. He has playoff experience and if they are acquiring they must think they can fix whatever ails him. At this point in a first place team I trust that Getz who has turned this around has an idea on what’s going on with Castillo more than Boston Smith, who no one knew about 4 months ago, is going to be the next Tatis jr

I knew Castillo had struggled but the numbers are pretty bad — in that park! It could get pretty ugly in the Rate. Kinda reminds me of the Civale trade. Really acquiring a name more than performance. I would assume this means the Sox are holding on to all their top prospects, though for me Boston Smith was probably the line for me. I was willing to trade everyone below him on my list.

I havent seen much a mention of him. It still doesnt make sense to give him up. Castillo is a 33 year old on the decline who is now the highest paid Sox player in history and will take up 25% our payroll. I dont think I would have taken on this contract for 0 prospects

Didn’t give up anything? Boston Smith isn’t a stud, but he’s still a top 15ish org prospect. He has legitimate value and we just took on a bad context in return for him.

Kinda meh on this trade. On one hand we get a veteran whose stats are no better than Fedde currently but has playoff experience, on the other hand we gave up Boston Smith who looks like he could be promising regardless of his position (c or LF) but we also got rid of Dominguez
