Between Rogers and Romo? Gimme Romo, so far what I've seen, Romo has a better feel of the strike zone, Rogers literally cost us the 9th. Rogers is even worse on offense than Romo too. Romo at least has home run potential. I see nothing on offense from Rogers and he isn't close to Pudge Rodriguez level defense to offset his shitty ABs

Rogers is the worst option the Sox have at catcher. I would rather have Romo or Quero or Teel on one leg. Some of the swings Rogers had were laughable....like he was swinging blind-folded.

Gonna be there all three. I get fired up for this series. I hate the Cubs. Our teams play the same sport--in the same league--in the same city. As far as I'm concerned if you grew up here and that

Cali has convinced me

Like the record is impressive and it's hard to argue against, but is he really that much better at calling a game and playing defense back there? I honestly don't see it. Baseball Savant metrics have him as a below average blocker (fits the eye test), and average at framing and throwing runners out (seems about right). And he sure as hell isn't contributing to that record on offense. I guess it really could be a case of all our other catchers are pure s%*# at defense and Romo being average is just that much better.

TLR would have walked PCA even.

Or gone to two strikes and then intentionally walked him.

Better bring back that blonde girl to heckle him from the beachers lol.

Except nobody will be able to hear her except for pre game.

I’ll go as far as saying there isn’t another manager in MLB right now or probably ever that would have pitched to Armstrong in that situation period and to also pitch to him with a wet behind the ears kid that you just called up from the nursery takes this incompetent decision to a level that will be talked about through the ages for its absolute vulgarity.

Definitely a best of the worst in terms of pitch calling. Also, how the hell didn’t Hicks throw another splitter to Happ?

It’s more the question of what happened to his fastball though? Considering this is out of the pen. I would have thought he’d be at 97-98. We live in an era where Anthony Kay can hit 97 as a starter.

Yeah, the velocity is underwhelming. I thought he lived in the high 90s, at least that's the gist when we drafted him. Both him and Schultz have very underwhelming fastballs for guys who were supposed to throw hard.

I hate the Cubs more than anyone, and that’s ridiculous

Do you really think JR will spend generously in FA if they make the post season?

Well, some will undoubtedly point to those bloated 2021-23 payrolls with lots of relieved but no stars.

Maybe Sox fans would be content with another 1983/1993/2000/2008/2020-21, not that sure about Guardians and Tigers fans, though.

Just saw a replay of tying hit. I think Peters gets him if he doesn’t bobble it.

I'm not even sure they send him if Peters comes up with it clean.

TLR is the only one that comes immediately to mind...thinking he's smarter than everyone else, for some reason.

All those playoff appearances, one supposes. Maybe Lou Piniella or Msddon.

Sox making postseason would be one of the biggest surprises I’ve had as a sports fan.

Not a huge fan of pulling your best defensive outfielder when you have the lead.

In summary, main learning tonight was don’t let PCA beat you. It reminded me of the time when we were competing with the Indians, and we were saying don’t let Jose Ramirez beat you, and he kept beating us. I hope Will learnt this lesson.

I'm still with Will there TBH. The whole inning comes down to how do I keep a runner from scoring from 2nd with nobody out. You know the runner is most likely to score and if he does score, it doesn't really matter how. By far your best bet is getting strikeouts, which pushes you towards going to the strikeout pitcher. The strikeout pitcher that you have is left-handed and has serious issues preventing walks. The lefty hitter in question strikes out 30% of the time. And your pitcher walks right-handed hitters a significantly larger proportion of the time. So do you put men on first and second to face right-handed Seiya, who is an absolute beastly hitter against LHP? And has below league average K% against LHP? That's the guy who is your biggest obstacle to getting through that inning without contact.

Of course as we saw, there were plenty of obstacles. There are a lot of ways to lose with those hitters coming up and a free baserunner on second representing the winning run. It's very annoying for the shithead PCA to walk you off but it's not really any different than any of the other ways you could lose. You're trying to figure out how can I make my 15-20% chance to keep them from scoring go to 30% or 40%.

Also the Sox fail yet again, to get to eight games over .500 for the season.

Hudson opening tomorrow

Really hate giving him up for later in the game.

Another observation tonight was that we need to improve our Manfred ball execution. We really suck in small ball and extras, and keep losing in extra innings.

As you said, game was over once the Sox didn’t score. Just sucked that his ass homering was the worst way to lose.

If it was better pitching an inning tonight or opening tomorrow, would have rather seen him face Happ tonight

Not sure they knew but you'd think they either don't put much stock in it or ignore it. Supposedly the tweet with this info went viral but I think I've been the only one who mentioned it and I don't pay attention to X. I first saw it in MLB trade rumors in the comments section . Then I guess later it popped up in a tweet. I mentioned it a couple of days ago.

The numbers are different though like yeah they said the same general result but I think the one in MLBTR had Romo 10 games above .500 not 20 so I don't know what the true results are.

I actually looked it up. When he starts, they are 27-19. In all games he's played, they are 29-22.

They definitely wouldn't run on Doyle.

Castillo raved about him last week.

But so does Hudson...who is much more effective with a 92-94 mph fastball.

Hudson also has had a lot more time to perfect himself since he's 29 ?

Shoulda raved about him more to have him catch this one.

Then we should just bring back Carson Fulmer!
