Vargas literally cost us the game. Hagen doesn’t even pitch if Vargas doesn’t f*** up multiple times.

My point is that the scapegoating on this board is dumb. Yall choose your sacrificial lambs but refuse to put the onus on someone you like. That’s some meathead fan s%*#.

After all, he supposedly won't sign an extension...probably replaces Bregman if it's not Matt Shaw.

Gonna be there all three. I get fired up for this series. I hate the Cubs. Our teams play the same sport--in the same league--in the same city. As far as I'm concerned if you grew up here and that

They should have challenged that pitch and the one they challenged was a waste.

I wasn’t sure why they didn’t put the bunt down with Acuna on base and nobody out. Take the base and get two bites at the apple.

They needed six hard outs after they took the lead and couldn’t get them. The lack of a defined closer and a bullpen that gets used without definitive starters makes this team fragile at times. At least they were competitive tonight after being down early. Not a great night offensively and Castillo needed to be better.

I thought Acuna should have been stealing when Rogers was batting . Every pitch he didnt run I'm thinking Rogers better not hit into a DP . Then he did.

I think Peterson is hard to steal against

Why aren’t you cussing Vargas? He cost us more runs than Hagan.

I have noticed an awful lot of throwing balls to 1st on DP's and dribblers that guys used to just hold onto.

Yes. Not getting him over and pushing one more run across is what ultimately set the demise in motion. And i felt it at the time.

Have a short memory and pour it on tomorrow

The one Rogers didn't challenge almost had the entire ball in the zone. Seriously, f*** this ump. Rogers was stupid not to challenge, but missing a blatant strike like that is just terrible.

Yeah I'm upset with Rogers but like you say, it's such a bad miss that it baits the players into bad challenges.

The game should have been a Sox win in regulation, Hicks should have had two K's and a save.

Yup, this and the Vargas error were killer. Still no idea why Will let Rogers hit in the 9th and not move Acuna over. I have to imagine our win probability would have skyrocketed with one additional run. If you are afraid to use Acuna on the basepaths late in the game, I’m not sure what the point of rostering him is.

This was a game they really didn't deserve to win with how they played. But they still had a great shot at it. The problem is that you have no idea who the hell is pitching the next 2 days. Gonna need the offense to actually show up if they want to at least get one of these games.

Should have had Acuna running in the 9th or bunted him over. That was a big mistake and solely on him. Rogers botching the challenges isn’t on him, but doesn’t help that guys continue to burn them on horrible calls early in games like Antonacci did tonight.

Yeah, Sam jumped the gun on that early challenge, for sure. And doggone, I thought the core idea of getting Acuna on base was that he was a pretty sure bet to steal. Maybe he didn't feel confident reading the pitcher's move. Well... let's look at this game from a different perspective: it was entertaining as hell. It was winnable, but sometimes winnable games are going to slip away. Turn the effin' page and kick butt tomorrow!

Rest of the AL central winning makes this sting more

You pitch Brazoban and walk PCA. You let the best player in the NL beat you with an open base.

Agree. You cannot let PCA beat you. Will screwed up again. PCA was like 4 for 5 in this game also.

Maybe but plenty of guys steal bases against guys hard to steal on. You can try a delayed steal or hit and run. You might get lucky with a hard to handle pitch or bobbled/cant dig it out of his glove by the catcher. And with his speed any delay you won't get thrown out.

They need to do something about the early challenges. All the stats say that you want to challenge late and close and not in the first few innings with nobody on base and early in the count. But we keep doing it. And it's usually guys with a good eye for the strike zone too. Mune's wasted a lot of challenges recently early in games.

This is why despite all the hate for Romo they win when he catches.

I know a lot of other things factor into wins but when its that lopsided I prefer the catcher the pitchers like to throw to.

Between Rogers and Romo? Gimme Romo, so far what I've seen, Romo has a better feel of the strike zone, Rogers literally cost us the 9th. Rogers is even worse on offense than Romo too. Romo at least has home run potential. I see nothing on offense from Rogers and he isn't close to Pudge Rodriguez level defense to offset his shitty ABs

PCA revenge game. Blonde girl Sox fan ran her mouth too much during the last series on social media. 😢

Venable said he never considered walking PCA in the 10th. He was more afraid of Suzuki. It was never an option.

He wanted to get PCA out with lefty Hagen and then he would have walked Suzuki.

He's thinking about it as if Hagen was on the mound. But if he used Brazoban, walking PCA and pitching to Suzuki makes a lot more sense.

How stupid

We need better from the deadline guys. Castillo wasn’t bad, wasn’t great tonight. Two of three games where he didn’t give you innings. Doyle has been bad and Brazoban hasn’t been great. They desperately needed another starter to cover these innings.

Well at least one of the Cubs players said they should've lost this game

Or maybe that's a dig at the Sox inability to close out this game 😵

Underwhelming stuff? He had stuck out 13.5 per 9 coming into tonight. His issue is command / control. The velocity stuff is overplayed around here.

I think it's definitely a concern. This guy was a high 1st rounder. On top of his complete lack of command, he's throwing around 94-95 out of the pen. In the outting were he went 2 innings, his fastball was down to 92-93 by his second inning. I will be very disappointed if he throws 92-93 as a starter. That's assuming he can fix his command.

Well a good challenge is one you win. Sam in particular has absolutely brutally-timed challenges and so frequently on pitches that aren't even close. I don't know why he does that. Sam and Mune are both high-volume, low-success challengers who often use them early. I'll give catchers more grace on firing off the challenges relatively early. I think that's the Sox philosophy too that they really don't want the hitters burning challenges at all. Yet Sam loves the "I'm fooled the first time seeing a pitcher and have to challenge it early in the count" challenge. Have to tie his hands at this point

So he would rather pitch to a red hot MVP caliber hitter with a base open...genius move

He’s never going to be a starter to me. Out of Schultz, Smith, McDougal and Taylor, only Schultz has a shot. Just a huge f*** up by the pitching development team.
