2 hours ago2 hr The sox have struck out seven times so far in this game. That got me wondering what was the strikeout rate in a game when I was a kid in the 1950s. In 1950, MLB teams averaged about 3.86 strikeouts per team per game. In 2026 so far, it’s about 8.36 per team per game.So unless fans are thrilled by batters swinging and missing pitches versus actually seeing balls in play, why not do something that would cut back on strikeouts? That means in a nine inning game, out of 54 outs, 17 of them end up without a ball being in play. I would much rather see a great play like the one Vargas made in this game versus people swinging and missing and taking strikes and walking back to the dugout. I also don’t think fans are overly excited by seeing somebody getting a base on balls. Back in 1968 I believe they altered the height of the pitchers mound and I’m wondering with everybody throwing 95 to 100 miles an hour now, we might want to move the mound back. Let’s say a foot or so.

2 hours ago2 hr Hope Lee doesn't get us here. Acting like Josh Naylor or something with his hit yesterday.
