One big difference, the Astros are paying the Marlins. If you claim Lee, you have to pay him his entire contract. The Marlins were trying to trade him and wanted teams to eat $2.5 million even though they essentially are paying him the minimum.

For 2 months that's about $6 million.

Thome and Vizquel are last men standing, no?

I should have typed '97 and included Bartolo.

Of course, there's always Manny, and I'm sure Julio Franco can still hang out some rope.

If Kenny can talk Carlos Baerga out of retirement, he still has a chance to complete his collection of that team's full starting line-up.

Jeff Manto was on that '97 team. I guess we can add him to the collection of Indians.

When would we find out if anyone claimed Fontenot?

If he passes through waivers, you should only know it if someone happens to leak it.

There are 47.5 business day hours after the player is put on waivers for any team to put a claim in on him unless the rules changed under the last CBA. Once a claim is put in on a player, the 47.5 hour clock restarts for a team to either trade him or to pull him back.

I don't believe Saturday/Sunday count as business day hours.

Thanks.

I believe under the new CBA they indeed do. (Learned that after Lee claim, one of the baseball guys on twitter said Philly has until Sunday to trade him etc).

Ok, then I learned something too.

One more thing to note...if he clears waivers, he can be traded at any point through the end of the season.

I have my doubts regarding the reporting of Fontenot being a guy you hear about with regards to him being claimed or making it through waivers.

Fontenot was released today according to the MLB transaction website.

I would drop Olmedo and pick up Betancourt. Seems like a marginal upgrade, but an upgrade nonetheless. Would not claim him tho. Let him clear waivers then sign him.

Fontenot seems like a clear upgrade over Olmedo or Hudson. Must be something we're all missing about him if KW hasn't picked him up already.

Why isn't Fontenot in a Sox uniform by now? He must be weighing options from several clubs because I would think Kenny would have made him an offer by now. He'd be a clear upgrade over Hudson.
