White Sox announce they have made a qualifying offer to Jeff Samardzija. That's a 1-year, $15.8 million offer.

Good. He's not worth what he thinks he is worth, so he won't be signing here.

Good.

Sun came up today.

If the #WhiteSox don't sign any free agents with a qualifying offer they'd have 3 picks in the top 50-55 players in the 2016 draft.

I'd be happy with 2 and Weiters

I hope he doesn't take it

I wouldn't mind Weiters either, but that is Boras. I am thinking Avila with how they always talk him up. If healthy he can hit. I would rather the Sox pay Avila a little money than send players for Jason Castro.

Avila hasn't been good since 2011. I don't think you can count on him for anything better than Flowers gives you.

If he's smart, he would, and try to rebuild some of his value for the long-term deal next year, because he's leaving a lot of money on the table this year if he believes he simply had a bad year.

I hope not they need to make up for last year. I don't think that they're in a position to deal prospects YET and that they need all the picks they can get.

Unless a player that fills both a long term and short term needs comes across the table and is interested in signing with the Sox, I would hope not.

I'm fine either way. Good thing is he only has 5 days to decide so the Sox know very shortly whether or not they have a hole in the rotation to fill.

He gawn for good.

I sure didn't sound like Hahn expected him to accept it a few weeks ago. On the other hand, if he truly is convinced the reason he sucked is because he was tipping his pitches and will be awesome next season, he should take it. Not only would he make more because of performance, there isn't as much competition for the free agent pitching dollars next year.

But that would be a bit shocking.

I'm pretty sure the Sox will pull something similar to what they did with Orlando Cabrera and tell Jeff he is going to the 'pen if he accepts the offer lmao

15 million is nothing nowadays for one year so I doubt the Sox threaten Boras with the bullpen. As much as I despise Shark, at least he contributed a few good outings whereas LaRoche was pretty bad the entire year. In other words, I'd laugh if he returns but not be TOO mad. Shark is merely bad, not Dunn bad or LaRoche bad or Keppinger bad or Beckham bad or Rios bad (when he was here).

Rios wasn't nearly as bad as Dunn or LaRoche over his Sox tenure. He had one terrible season, but also had one really damn good one.

Levine has already reported that Samardzija will decline.

There really isn't news with Samardjiza until we start hearing which teams are bidding for him, and how much they are willing to pay

Good riddance.

How is the order of the comp picks chosen? 20 QOs could mean that pick becomes a few slots higher than previously thought.

I think it's the order the free agents sign. So we want Samardzija to sign quick.

Researching I think it goes by record so the 2 Padre picks would be the only picks before the White Sox

With them getting a comp pick where they are going to get them I can understand why there were some here that were saying it would have been better to get any low level prospect from anyone in a trade last season. Clearly there is a lot of value in getting a pick sandwiched between the first two rounds...like a lot of value.
