  1. some people won't stop whining about "bernie bros" and how the left are traitors to the Democrats?

  2. I've been a pretty big contributor here for a long time(started posting at SoxTalk in Jan of 06 after defecting from WSI), but this weekend has kind of broken me as a fan. I might take a year off and not care even close to as much about my Chicago sports teams. I'm posting this because of my posts in the past about MI/Autism, and I don't want anyone to worry about me. I'm fine. I'm just catching up developmentally and growing as an adult. I'm starting to realize a lot more where my priorities are, and sports, quite frankly, isn't one of them right now. I'm already pretty invested in this season, So I'll stick around until I start my new job leading up to the last week of the season, after that, all bets are off. I don't know if I'll return or not. Who Knows? I might like not wasting time on watching a silly game a lot more than wasting time on it. I've been working really hard to eliminate pessimistic thoughts, and sports are letting them creep back into my brain. I can't have it and it isn't healthy for me. Peace, Parkman

  3. As soon as the first guy got on base, you knew what was gonna happen. Just had to work out the details.

  6. You appear to have your head up your own ass by taking the game thread in the WRONG direction. You show no sense now. Please refrain from political crap.

  7. You can be so tedious at times. Always trying to deflect any and all criticism from the current owner. I guess we’ve come to know and expect this from you at this point, so weak comebacks like this are no surprise. Nonetheless, let’s get back on track and back to the original discussion point The poster to whom I was replying observed that the two owners prior to the current one didn’t enjoy the profits that the current one has for the past 28 years. The simple reason is due to the sweetheart lease deal the current owner strong-armed his way into receiving from the state in the late ‘80s, due solely to the owner’s threats to move the team to Florida if those demands weren’t met. Those threats and demands were widely criticized in the press at the time as “blackmail”. That’s open to interpretation, but you can see why many members of the press concluded as such. Compare that to the purported moves to either Milwaukee or Seattle posed by Allyn, neither of which resulted in Allyn similarly demanding of either the city or state “Give me $$$, or we are out of here.” In other words, there weren’t state-subsidized bailout that prevented those moves. HUGE difference.

  8. The statistic that I find most intriguing is his home run rate of one in every 15 at bats. That makes him a bonafide "slugger," and has the potential to fill the void of that elusive, middle of the order, left handed bat. If he can maintain that, going forward, that is one hole filled. Now, do they keep Avi and Abreu, next season and try to fill out the rotation, or do they trade them, and delay the contention window, until 2020, or beyond? What the front office does with those two will probably tell us, in which direction they want to go. A lineup of Moncada, Avi, Abreu, Palka Eloy, Narvaez, Anderson etc, is probably good enough, if they have the pitching.

  10. Theoretically, yes. In that case it would be an exception. I am talking about mostly unproven players via the draft or with less than 32 games of starting experience. I have zero faith in anyone associated with this organization to properly scout the QB position until they hit on one. However, if by some chance the Bears traded for or signed an experienced, proven QB I'd assume they're about to fall off of a cliff performance wise or get hurt because the Bears aren't allowed to have nice things at that position. When there is a track record of failure this long at some point it isn't bad luck anymore. It is pretty hard to just have "bad luck" for 70 years.

  11. I don’t think Reinsdorf is the problem with this team

  12. It's a limited partnership. I haven't seen the organizing documents, but that suggests that all of the investors have a limited partner stake, with the general partner being the corporation over which Reinsdorf has majority control. In a limited partnership, the general partner(s) has/have 100% control regardless of the ownership shares. That means if Reinsdorf has majority control of the corporate general partner of the limited partnership that owns the White Sox, he has 100% control of all decisions for all intents and purposes.

  15. I love the endless stupidity of the Tappers and various "fact-checkers" on this issue. Really highlights how useless they are. A libertarian (Blahous) at a libertarian institute does a big study that, whoops, finds Medicare 4 All as actually proposed would save money! Trillions of dollars over a decade! When various politicians that support M4A point out that even a study done by someone ideologically opposed to M4A found it saved money, all of the "fact-checkers" rushed to rate this as "false" or "half true" because M4A doesn't save money based on an "alternative scenario" invented by Blahous but not advocated by any of the politicians.

  16. I have always believed and heard from sources that JR has complete, utter control of the team and day to day operations. In fact it is written into his contract that he has a free hand without having to consult the other owners. The other owners can offer opinions and disagree but have limited to no power to do anything about the operations of the club including selling it. JR does not need to gain their approval. I know a few years ago a group of other owners got together and tried to force a sale which was quickly killed by JR.

  22. Haven't been in this thread in awhile due to personal problem (my 6 year old husky died in May and just been working a lot to forget about it and forgot about this thread). Now, first I want to say as a Chiefs fan, THANK YOU FOR TRADING FOR MACK!! Got him out of the AFC West. Now my Chiefs can dominate the division still and not have to worry about him breaking Mahomes in half. Can't believe how fucking dumb Gruden is. I love Nagy because he was in KC and very good. Be patient with him and Mitch. He'll do wonders for him I honestly believe. I'm not a huge Mitch fan dating back to the draft but that doesn't mean shit and shouldn't because I'm no expert. I do think he'll still be pretty good like Alex Smith but he's frustrating to watch right now like Smith was in KC. My problem with him and Nagy is after the first 15 scripted plays where he looks great, he's been hit or miss. But I do know this offense is very large in volume and will take some time to master. KC sat Mahomes behind Smith so he could just study and learn the playbook. I love what Pace and Nagy did in the offseason. The Bears had probably the best offseason a team could ever ask for. Love that Pace had the balls to trade (smartly) the picks for Mack and got a 2nd round back (LOL only Gruden would trade his best player and include a 2nd round pick). Sadly, however, watching the Green Bay game gave me deja vu with the blown lead. Saw it all too well in KC. Gota keep the pedal to the metal and not let up. Nagy and Mitch HAVE to stay aggressive. Can't let up. So good luck guys rooting for y'all! Go Chiefs and da Bears

  27. Wait -- these tweets by 18 year old Hader where Harmful to whom? Who exactly did these tweets harm? Because if they were harming someone, he would have been flagged much earlier in his life span and he would have learned his lesson earlier. So don't go preaching that shit here and don't go putting words into my 'mouth'. I'm not saying this is OK or that the rest of the country shouldn't acknowledge this as an issue -- I'm saying: a) There's a very good chance that Hader has learned and is indeed NOT racist, at all. b) That this is a societal problem that the 'rest of the country' should acknowledge and work to solve.

  28. As an older man who loves his rock and roll it sometimes seems odd to me that white kids immerse themselves in rap which can get very offensive towards women and can be offensive and hateful with regards to violence drugs and gays and other things where the words are certainly reflective of an urban black upbringing. When a white kid starts spouting these lyrics it's so strange knowing its certainly not a world they understand and more just going with the flow of popular culture. When I was a kid the music wasn't as segregated as it is now and certainly wasn't as offensive in general and then there's the whole twitter thing where your errors in judgment as an ignorant young man can bite you in the ass as an adult when you are much more educated and less ignorant and move on from the ignorant or even hateful cultures you may have been surrounded by as you grew up . I don't know if as a society we are becoming more tolerant or less tolerant but these are not simple times for the youth of America.
