It wasn’t a good throw, but it was certainly catchable. As a little leaguer you are taught to find the base and then stretch to where the ball is going. Jose was both off balance and trying to stretch before he saw the direction of the throw. That completely killed his catch radius. That ball could have been only 2 feet away from the bag and he still wouldn’t have gotten to it.

Yikes Jose. This team is hard to watch...

That’s the type of play that kills a pitcher of his defense can’t make it. Especially a rusty pitcher, needs all the help he can get

Cedeno had an opt out clause coming up so this makes sense. Try to showcase him in the majors for a month or so for a trade instead of just letting him go. Bummer will be back

Bohm was scared out of his mind to the point that it was almost comical. Probably overthinking it on my part, but as a GM I’d have a tough time taking a kid that can’t handle pressure. He’s going to have to be on a much bigger stage to be a successful big leaguer

I’m still going out on my limb saying Cole Winn will be the best pick. Tough pick to make obviously, Madrigal is the much safer and obvious pick other than Mize tho.

I know it would be extremely unconventional and risky, but I really think I might take Cole Winn at #4. I expect no one to agree and know there’s almost 0% of it happening, but I think he’s the #1 pitcher in this class. He has a fluid smooth delivery, the ball explodes out of his hand, and he has a 12-6 curve that already flashes plus. I think he’ll have a very bright future once he fills out and gets a few years in the minors under his belt.

Like I said, more of a slight flag that raises a question than a real critique. I don’t think it’s crazy question though. As you said, it happens in other sports. And in other sports players get overdrafted because their production was elevated surrounded by other great players. Is it not possible Madrigal saw a lot of fastballs hitting 4th surrounded by a bunch of guys with near .400 OBP’s?

1st, I fully admit that I don’t follow college baseball so I could be very ignorant in my observations. Not afraid to admit that... But when I saw the Oregon st offense it threw up a red flag for me. Weak competition? favorable hitting environment? My 1st instinct when I see 5 guys (Kwan has great #’s too) in a batting order that seemingly rarely get out is that something has to be up. Maybe team stats like this are more common than I’m aware of, but just seems almost too good to be true that all 5 guys are that good of hitters. I wont be upset with a Madrigal pick, but as I said earlier it’s definitely not a good year to have the 4th pick. The high end talent in this draft is lacking. Hopefully we can make up for it with a good haul of overall talent

Not to sound like I’m bashing Madrigal...but is not concerning that pretty much all of the 2-6 part of ORegon St’s lineup has video game like #’s?

Madrigal really struggling vs UCLA...pitcher walks the guy before him on 4 straight balls including a wild pitch and Madrigal comes up and flies out weakly on the 1st pitch he sees

At this point I almost feel like you are doing a disservice to Engel by leaving him in the lineup. It’s almost getting to the point of embarrassment. Engel is a bad hitter, but he’s not THIS bad...it has to be mental at this point and sitting him down would have to help

Would love to see him stay, but at the same time you have to listen on trade offers. If a desperate team at the deadline is willing to give 2 good prospects it will be hard to turn down. Not sure what Jose's value around the league is, but I'd ask for a lot if no one is willing to meet the requirements Jose would stay. The deal would start with a top 50 prospect for me

Yeah I just can't go out on that limb to say he'll be 1 of the best hitters in the game. That's your opinion, I'm not going to talk you out of it. I hope the Sox take him and you end up being right. If I had to predict I'd say DJ LeMahieu with more speed. Which is a damn good player, make I'm being greedy by asking for more.... But if you're taking an advanced college bat like Madrigal I'd imagine he'd be on the fast track to the majors. Considering that I don't think the Sox are moving either Anderson or Moncada what position would Madrigal get moved to? Does he have the arm for 3B? Or could he make a good CF? Just something else to consider

Madrigal doesn't have near the power of either of those guys. To think that he has 20+ HR potential is far fetched at best. He's a terrific player, I'm not putting him down, I'm just saying in terms of pure ceiling and potential he's not an ideal top 4 pick in my opinion. Typically in the top 5 I'd expect to get a SP with #1 potential or potential franchise middle of the order type hitter. I see none of that. I'd put Madrigal as the #2 prospect in this class, I just think it's a weak class.

I don't love any of the other guys so I won't complain, but boy is Madrigal a very uninspiring #4 overall pick. Bad year to have the 4th pick.

Not sure how much longer I can be subjected to this OF...Obviously the Avi injury hurts, but this OF is still just pathetic. I've seen enough to know that Leury, Engel, Thompson and Delmonico are never going to be major league regulars. I know the object isn't to win right now, but this team is just brutal to watch.

I'm starting to lean towards Mclanahan. Lefty that can throw 95+ with pretty good movement and command that already has a good feel for a change-up? Yes please. The mechanics and breaking pitch can be perfected. I see his ceiling as probably the highest of anyone we will have a shot at.

As a sixers fan I fully understand the process and even supported it. Unfortunately baseball doesn’t work the same way. It will be a never ending process if the Sox are building through the draft only. They need to continue to add as much talent as possible, whenever possible. Speeding up the process isn’t a bad thing lol. Basketball works because you can draft a franchise changing player that makes an immediate impact, that’s more than likely not going to happen in baseball. I’m 100% behind a rebuild, but it’s already year 2 and there isn’t an end in thought, let alone in sight. If the front office sits around and let’s all prospects develop and draft picks come up it’s going to be a decade long process. Minimum

I get the criticism of a few too many jokes...some of which are definitely very lame. But overall I think Jason does a perfectly fine job. Is he one of the better play by play guys in baseball? No definitely not, but he’s not bad either. But then again I thought Hawk was borderline unbearable the past 2 years so I’m probably in the minority.
