What's next?...
Ha, I even said I bet they tried to get Castillo on the IL earlier because there was no way they didn't want to replace him down the stretch. Of course he refused.

Here's what I actually wonder. I understand that in modern runs expected parlance, the Sox are going the "right" thing by playing for the big inning in swinging for the fences constantly. But also hearing that Murakami had a 45% whiff rate against 96 plus fastball, and Colson had 48%, it gets me thinking about what actually goes into that number, along with average and median expectations. Keep in mind an "expected" total is an average. All of those zero run innings are picked up by the outlier 10 run inning that is generated once in a blue moon when everything works. Think of it this way. If my distribution looks like 0/0/0/0/0/0/0/0/0/10, versus 0/1/0/1/2/0/3/0/1/0, my expected run total is better in the first scenario, but I am giving myself a better chance to win more games in the last scenario. Obviously that is very skewed on purpose, but you kind of get the point. I do wonder about distribution of runs, and how we might revisit this as something more of a "selective" aggression versus all gas and no breaks.

2027 Rotation
They aren't going to add two more starters unless they are Fedde/Kay/Foster Griffin specials... Soroka might even be out of their realistic range with Castillo added and Newcomb/Fedde going up in cost.

What's next?...
This year's success is all the reason for Jerry to not spend money. He probably thinks you can have this success with this low of a payroll every year.

What's next?...
I think AJ nailed it, and it’s not a surprise. I’m more surprised that some people seem to think Jerry is going to allow Getz to go on a spending spree, lockout or no lockout.

Let's look at the bright side - the Sox are going to have an absolute STAR in Caleb Bonemer
Yeah, Not sure what year he’s living in. We got a Boner Homer today. He and Shelton both went deep. If Shelton could get more consistency he could be a guy too.

This regime haven’t really rushed anybody.

2027 Offense
Or the prior 19 K game? Wasn’t it better to learn that lesson now…or maybe this was the best chance of all to take down the Dodgers with a compromised Ohtani hitting much worse than Mune?

What's next?...
The very interesting comment in this piece was where A.J. said the Sox tried to put Castillo on the IL before they finally did so before the playoffs and he said, "no." Hmmmmm. A.J. also isn't convinced the Sox are going to spend money this off season he said he's going by the history under JR.

I would also add that you could reduce GIDP by putting our faster runners in motion on straight steals or hit and runs whenever feasible.

2027 Offense
Braden Montgomery in his first 100 PA against LHP… i am ready to move on: 184 AVG, 231 OBP, 263 SLG Oh no wait, thats Elly de la Cruz’ first 100PA.. .202 AVG, .276 OBP, .298 SLG Sorry that is actually Jose Ramirez’ splits against LHP in his first full season in 2015 .168 AVG, .211 OBP, .308 SLG Did it again.. Cal Raleigh vs RHP (his vs LHP splits arent much better) Braden’s 2026 was actually worse than the above, but im in for seeing how he develops with more experience. Id still want Getz to have a backup plan in place with a solid platoon bat vs LHP for if he doesnt however. Maybe thats Bonemer.

This Day In Sox History 10/14...
One factoid today: October 14, 1906 - The Sox beat the Cubs, winning the World Series four games to two behind the pitching of Guy "Doc" White. They clinched the title winning the sixth game 8-3. “Big” Ed Walsh won two games for the Sox during the series with infielder George Rohe batting .333 and playing in all six games. The “Hitless Wonders” White Sox had a team batting average of only .230 for the season and hit even worse, .198 in the series. But they collected 10 doubles and three triples in the six games and held the powerful Cubs to a series batting average of only .196 After the game, owner Charles Comiskey handed a 15,000 thousand dollar check to manager Fielder Jones. It was to be split among the players. The players viewed the check as a bonus for their efforts. Comiskey though considered it as part of their 1907 salary! The seeds of the eventual “Black Sox” scandal were perhaps sown on this day. It is the only time in over a century of playing baseball that the Sox and Cubs have ever met in the postseason.

19.2% is good to see. Especially now

2027 Rotation
Make that TWO starting pitchers.

2027 Offense
Just wondering. Not being snarky. What's the fallback plan if (when) the owners position on a salary cap/floor is rejected by the union and after a period of time the owners fracture and their position collapses. Just asking for a friend! 🙂 What are the Sox prepared to do payroll-wise?

2027 Offense
Considering what they gave up for him....that made it even worse.

2027 Offense
The Rays offense hasnt done s%*# in this ALCS, if it wasnt for a Ramirez error they get shut out tonight. They have only scored in 3 innings so far. I dont think the approach to hitting we have is wrong or bad by any means. We did better against this pitching staff. The 21k game is an exception obviously, but we never have to see that if we had any kind of pitching.
-
2027 Rotation
Not worth paying top dollar for a luxury bat when we need two quality SPs. Bonemer will be our Suzuki eventually.

Loved seeing Ramirez be the reason they lost tonight. Also after seeing the Rays get dominated by CLE pitching, we should be less critical of our guys. The Rays have looked bad the last two nights.

What's next?...
Trading away some of the strikeouts is kind of an important priority after the historic Cleveland series don’t you think? Attack the problem with some aggression. Set some clear standards. And direction.

“The 78” + "The Railyard" = the future of the Sox and Fire
It sure doesn’t appear so, which is the most frustrating part of these public meetings. There is a very realistic path for the city to encourage Amtrak to develop on, say, the Global 1 site instead of the Canal St. Yards, but Alderman Lee either isn’t aware enough to do so or doesn’t care enough to try. Regardless, she’s ensuring that nothing is actually being accomplished except generating slight media buzz against the Railyards development. Only God knows what’s going to happen to 35th and Shields (after the Sox move) with her at the helm.

Upcoming Free Agent Signing + Labor Contract Uncertainty
The Cubs are losing 4 starters and have PCA entering his prime. Unfortunately they will be spenders on pitching. Toronto probably wants to make a push and yes...some floor teams like the Pirates or Twins may even make an aggressive move. It's gonna be a weird off-season. The more i read about it, Kaima Taira may be the best option.
