So we'll have Castillo, Burke, Kay and Martin for next year. Add one FA (Trevor Rogers? Should be reasonable price; very good, except for a ghastly 2024). And you're right, out of Schultz, Sandlin, Vasil, hopefully Taylor and other candidates, they can find one starter; although 2 or 3 would be better to have some depth. And they'll lose Castillo and Kay for 2028, so they will need some guys to step in.

I like how the BP was rearranged. They got rid of the guy who early in the season was most likely to get a save but regressed to the guy most likely to blow a save. They also have a few guys who can go multiple innings but then they can't recover as quickly. Most people don't know it but combined the BP has 32 saves. Hagen Smith and Hicks are volatile so Venable hasn't put them in save situations but they are getting more and more chances to open innings late in the game. Unfortunately we're down to 3 starting pitchers and unless you're willing to call up Shane Smith or Cannon to maximize innings pitched beyond 4 that BP is going to be maxed out into ineffectiveness. Gonna be there all three. I get fired up for this series. I hate the Cubs. Our teams play the same sport--in the same league--in the same city. As far as I'm concerned if you grew up here and that doesn't mean anything to you you're either (1) an odd sports fan entirely out of step with the natural, universal dynamic of intra-city sports rivalries everywhere or (2) you're lying. I'm not afraid to say this series matters to me and I have zero time for the cowardly Cub fan passive-aggressive, bet-hedging, weaponized indifference pose. Depends on a lot of things. Bonemer and Cholowsky on the horizon as RH sources of talent. If JR is still around and the resolved CBA didn't help much, which it likely won't being a big market team then it's act like the Rays until Ishbia is owner. Then you can operate differently hopefully. Still have to keep restocking the farm and you already have seen what a massive influx of young talent can do . Mune may be out the door too. So much changes from year to year especially if you find out your talent wants to test the FA waters. Better to trade them and restock the farm especially when it could be years before we see any talent graduate from Latin America. That's a huge part of our talent pipeline that could not be fixed in a short period of time nor is the financial situation ideal when JR is still owner.
