  2. From the Sun-Times story tonight: "The start of the second half could be dangerous for a Sox team that has been insatiable at home (31-17) but toothless on the road (19-28). Twelve of the Sox’ next 19 games are away from Rate Field, while the Guardians have 13 of 20 on home turf. If the Sox can keep up with the Guardians into August, though, they’ll be in a strong enough position that general manager Chris Getz could tip the scales with the right pitching acquisition or two at the deadline."
  3. I don't care I'm not tuning in to watch him . He's just some loud personality that seems to be en vogue.
  4. I don’t understand your logic. East Coast bias is East Coast bias. Yes, a guy from Philly, Boston, or Baltimore is more likely to vote for a guy on an East Coast team, especially a player from the AL East division. A writer from a Sox rival, say Minnesota or Cleveland, is more likely, even as rivals, to vote for Vargas from another AL central team. Writers take care of their regional own. Look at the voting for the Heisman Trophy voting: a quarterback from Michigan will get every vote from Ohio rather than a writer from a Big Ten school vote for a guy from the SEC.
  5. Might make more sense to play Bonemer at second...leave Antonacci in the outfield, as Sam profiles as just an average 2B and a notch or two below Meidroth. Colson 3B/SS/DH Roch SS Bonemer 2B/3B/DH Vargas 1B/3B/DH Mune ??? Carlson and Meidroth ???
  6. Yes and no. Point one: I have to think the voting was very close between Vargas and Bellinger. My evidence is that on the post game show, an announcer said something like, “they’re bringing Vargas over for an interview.” Then he said something like “that seems to be a big clue to who’s about to be named MVP of the game.” He said that. Does anyone else remember him saying that? Strong evidence that the voting was probably close. Point 2: I think (but I don’t actually know) that there are a large number of sports writers who would travel nationally, whether the game was in Miami or Seattle. But I have to also believe there were a ton of upper east coast sports writers who were local and don’t travel nationally, who would not be there if the game were played in Cleveland or St. Louis: that would radio guys, podcasters, bloggers. I would guess guys who would probably be from, let’s say, New York, Philly, or New York or Boston or maybe New York or Baltimore or say New York. It wouldn’t take too many of these local sports guys with their East Coast bias to swing that vote for Bellinger.
  7. I’ve thought for awhile, if it’s really a back issue, that Colson might end up at 1st, not 3rd. Less straining to field, straighten, and throw.
  8. Jerry told Getz that he's drafting Thome or he is gone. As simple as that.
  9. I just don’t see them taking on that contract. But with Ishbia in the fold, you never know.
  10. Ah, the hard hit arguments. Isn’t that how they justified keeping Andrew Vaughn in the lineup with all his warning track fly outs?
  11. Come on Mike, what about a Cease homecoming? Think big
  12. The Sox could potentially put the nail in the coffin for the Blue Jays this weekend. If that happens, Kevin Gausman makes a lot of sense.
  13. I cant believe the Sox granted permission with no restrictions to report on this. Not sure I've seen anything like that before in sports given the situation. Love it though.
  14. Probably lands on another roster quickly, 4.25 ERA away from Sacramento and lots of teams need arms
  15. Getz has done a great job in this aspect. Having the pretty nice war room and the ESPN reporter tell all was a big balls moment. I'm def enjoying the ways the org is moving these days, however the process arrived at Getz, it's working. I was looking at some of the position player fWAR on those teams and in hindsight pretty mediocre. we had some pretty good SP for a minute, the position player side was a bunch of old guys holding on to some prime, some never would be guys and some talented but injury prone youngsters. Grandal was a s%*# signing overall, damn man, guy just gave up.
  16. It really is wild how many games those core guys were out due to injury and hardly ever fully played with each other. Barely half a season worth. What’s also crazy to me is that wasn’t all that long ago. 4/5 years? The quick turnaround for not only the major league squad, but seemingly the entire organization, is just baffling to me. If the Sox win a championship in the next 3-5 years someone needs to make a documentary about this transformation.
  17. The article wasn’t about “keeping the door open”. It was about the discussion that took place to determine who to select. It’s not a big deal. I just thought it was amusing. Like I said before, I’m not trying to knock the Sox in any way. I thought it was a very cool article.
  18. Today
  19. Telling him and keeping the door open for a last minute change are not mutually exclusive
  20. It would be fascinating to hear Jose talk about some of the things he experienced. I wonder if the Sox will start to involve him in things.
  21. I'm not trying to pick a fight but for an analytics oriented guy it's sorta wild to handwave away basically a 2 WAR head start as a solid defensive SS over an average LF. Bonemer is a great prospect, but nobody is drafting him 1st overall in this draft. roch's path to 4 war is like 240/320/400 and play a solid, not elite, just solid defensive SS. Caleb's is like 240/340/530 and don't trip over your dick out there in LF. It's easy to see in this example why positional scarcity matters. If you want to argue Bonemer will be too good to move off "the dirt" (this and "shoving" are annoying me) that's a different argument, one I don't really pretend to have an opinion on.
  22. No. Apple TV is it's own separate app like Netflix, Hulu, etc.
  23. Is Apple TV on Youtube?
  24. The org is doing things the right way process wise for the first time in a long time. Maybe since the late 90s, including the media side of things and fan service.
  25. Kind of feel like Mune gets what it's like to be an southsider. He was born to be at this club. Love it. I imagine they'll try and get an extension done before the end of the year. You know Jerry must be salivating at the $$$$ he brings in.
