Yeah, it doesn’t really make sense. A baseball ops department is going to do what they think is best in consideration of the constraints they’re working under. You can argue with their decisions, but whether it’s win now or win later, they’re all trying to win. It seems evident that isn’t always the case with ownership, or at the very least isn’t a high enough priority. I don’t see how you could argue with Cohen’s desire to put a winning product on the field, sleazeball or not.

Sox the "front-runners" for Imai

So the Mets have spent more this off season than the sox, but somehow the Sox are trying and the Mets aren't. Make it make sense. -

Everyone get their notebooks and pencils, “Private Equity 102” has begun. In this class you will learn that calling Jerry cheap is actually a stereotype but you will also learn that you don’t know anything about Ishbia. But Tray knows. And it’s bad - Today

There is an old saying..."Be careful what you wish for." Is Ishbia cheap as well ? Is he really a White Sox fan ? Oh, is that why he pulled his Private Equity Investment in the Twins and instead purchased White Sox shares ? Or was that part and parcel of the typical PEI leveraged buyout formula? Ishbia remains silent and is just paying down debt right now, right? Really? corporate debt is part of the strategy used by PEI firms over and again. "A leveraged buyout is a strategy in which a private equity firm finances its acquisition of a company using debt secured by the company it is acquiring rather than using its capital or taking on the debt itself. This tactic saddles private equity-owned companies with substantial debt, often draining resources that could otherwise be invested in innovation, workforce development, or adapting to market changes. Instead, firms under private equity ownership must channel much of their revenue toward servicing this debt, leaving them vulnerable to financial distress and bankruptcy. Bankruptcies are a key bellwether signaling the broader risks associated with private equity investments." https://pestakeholder.org/news/private-equity-behind-70-of-large-u-s-bankruptcies-in-the-first-quarter-of-2025/ Also, imagine what is ahead for Walgreens now that is has been taken over by a Private Equity firm that financed 70% of it deal through debt...with little or no skin in the game. https://medcitynews.com/2025/09/walgreens-private-equity-sale/ Meanwhile, did Ishbia offer one cent capital to the WSox corporation for acquiring Murakami or to be used to fortify the 2026 White Sox roster? We know he has money to spend and that he spends a lot of it on his own Winnetka estate. And what does he say about Murakami, or about anything related to the White Sox. What's with the Wizard of Oz BS ? As a Sox fan, I want the team to win now or at least in the next 2-3 years. If that gets Jerry another ring, fine by me. Count me out of the group that puts some kind of baseless faith in a silent private equity investor. He is in it for money. Ishbia could give 2 chits about the WSox or WSox fans, never has, never will. His silence now, even with the fan excitement over the Murakami signing, is proof positive of that. -
I know some people gripe over PFF grades, but this had me absolutely shocked.... Loveland is their 5th highest graded TE and Burden is their 14th highest graded WR. I know they've looked incredible, but to have those grades back up what I've seen and know its not just my often rose colored glasses took me back a bit!

Because you keep making this argument over and over and it’s still ridiculous. How can you look at the current respective payrolls for the Mets and the White Sox and say that the Mets are not even trying yet the Sox actually appear to be trying? That’s crazy talk.

Chicago White Sox's Offseason FA Signings Trades Megathread
nrockway replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
well we don't have Yoendrys anymore, someone has to have it. maybe Bryan Ramos because he keeps 'YoYoing' between AAA and MLB. -
it'll never not be funny to me that everyone slobbers all over those two dudes, the criminal and the wunderkind, and they completely blew it with a $400mil payroll. the key point here is that they failed and now this year they're not even trying. meanwhile, the sox actually appear to be 'trying' this offseason and people are still complaining. interesting.

From MLB.com: "A report from Yahoo Japan indicated the White Sox were emerging as contenders for Imai, though Feinsand reported that Chicago is a longshot to ink the righty."

Look, I know you wanted caviar, but I got this expired ground chuck that is just as good at like 5% of the cost... now where is my love? -
Man, it must suck to have an owner that tries to win and fails. Oh the horrors.

the steve cohen special seems to be missing the playoffs then replacing the team's good players with polanco, a 35-year-old who just hit for 89 wrc+, a guy who posted a 5 ERA. maybe that's the david stearns special.

For real though, we live in a world where one person thinks he isn’t cheap and the rest of us are the crazy ones lol -
The Jerry Special.

I don't see any Lopez comps as mentioned up thread. His deliver is smooth and effortless and while he's not a flame thrower he can sit at 96 for the first few innings with his fastball and mixes in some pretty damn nasty what I would call slurves and straight changes. He's probably just like a 4th starter but hell we need those.

This is one of my favorites but hard to find outside of Japanese grocers: I don't drink a ton of Sake as I prefer it heated and don't have an ideal method (I'm sure Japan makes one I should look into it) but it really is a smooth way to get buzzed. Nothing like eating a bunch of fresh fish and washing it down with a hot sake. Japan does sensory things well.

Ok. Jerry Reinsdorf isn’t cheap. Sounds good. -
I expect the team to sign another starter, and one or two players with experience in the back end of the pen. I wouldn't be opposed to the Soc reuniting with Kopech, he doesn't fit the culture/vibe they have now.

This would be bonkers, but awesome, assuming it’s another one where the deal is smaller than initially expected. I’ve seen a TON of Imai; he has really blossomed the past couple seasons after being really wild at the start of his career. I don’t see him as an mlb ace by any stretch, tbh, but I do see him as a #3/4 with youth on his side, which would be a boon for this team of course.

To be honest, I was excited about this news until I saw Boras' name and then figured slim chance. It was fun to read some Cubby fans lose their s%*# though so I'll take that for some end of the year shenanigans.

The Sox currently have the smallest largest contract in the MLB. Call that what you want, but you shouldn’t be surprised when some Sox fans call it being cheap. We also have a direct quote from Getz regarding how Brooks Boyer was involved in talking up the marketing potential to get the Murakami signing to the finish line. I don’t believe that anyone said that Jerry was completely clueless to this marketing potential but we all remember his comments on Ohtani. Finally, if Murakami’s market was truly $150+ million as was initially estimated as opposed to signing for $34 million, do you honestly believe he would be a White Sox right now?
