  2. Yankees made the same determination on their catchers as well. @FiresideYankees: "The Yankees have signed Christian Bethancourt to an MiLB deal, per @BryanHoch . The 34-year-old catcher had a 90 wRC+ and . 466 SLG% in 59 games for the Iowa Cubs (AAA) this season. At least we didn’t get M.Maldonado back out of retirement.
  3. I’m sort of shocked by the Pereira DFA, I thought his performance on Sunday was a good sign of the future for him. Forgotten in all of this is Austin Hays, what don’t the Sox like about him.
  4. Rockies have fallen in love with their new CF, Carigg. He's their new golden boy, and he looks good. They needed to get rid of Doyle, who doesn't hit anyway. Getz complied. Adams will improve the pitching staff, which isn't very good, obviously.
  5. Agree on the catching, just about anyone would be better the the tandem of Quero and Romo though I do still have hope for Quero down the road.
  6. If Bart gets most of the playing time, sending Quero down is fine. He can get consistent playing time and work of improvements. Romo shouldn't play more than a couple days a week.
  7. Jordan Hicks has been this version of himself before, and he didn't make any changes while actively playing. He's thrown from this slot before, had this stuff before, and generally been this guy. Guys make minor adjustments all the time, and I'd consider the adjustment Hicks made to be minor and achieved while not playing.
  8. I gave them a B, but it's probably a B-. I think the rotation got a little better, possibly more than a little if a change in surroundings helps Castillo. The bullpen addition was really good. Big improvement over Dominguez for a fraction of the price. I'm not sure about the move for Doyle. I wonder if that move was in anticipation of an outfielder being moved, and a deal fell through. But, replacing Pereira with Doyle seems like a wash. I think Bart was a smart move. He's an improvement over what we had going on, although that's not saying much. And they gave up essentially nothing for him. As someone else mentioned, the ask for Stephenson must have been ridiculous considering he didn't move. The best part of all of this is the team got better, and they didn't trade any top prospects. We'll know in a few weeks how much better they got.

  10. Yep, you nailed it. Might be the worst system in baseball.
  11. Not really. The Padres have just about the last ranked farm system in all of baseball so you have to factor that in. Neither prospect is a top 100 prospect in the MLB. So the #4 prospect in a very weak system doesn’t mean all that much and the #9 is almost nothing. https://www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/robbie-ray-trade-grades-padres-giants/ “MLB Pipeline ranked Mendez and Hernandez as the No. 4 and No. 9 prospects in San Diego's system, respectively. That said, the Padres have a very thin farm system. Their No. 4 prospect would be the No. 10 or 11 prospect in many other organizations.“
  12. Its back to the business of winning ball games today. First game of the series always important. Lets go White Sox!
  13. I do wish I had access to stuff like reports that would indicate which pitching targets may be most successful vs. the division, with 19 or so games left and big games vs. CLE coming up. That may be where there is definitely a "we can't throw fedde out a 4th time vs. these guys". Now, would castillo have something there - i have zero idea. Would he even show up favorably in some report? No idea. But Schultz has had his arrow up recently, we have more protection for short outings. I just hope Castillo rises up to the challenge here. We need him. I want the playoffs bad.
  14. https://www.baseballamerica.com/stories/red-sox-adley-rutschman-trade-scouting-anthony-eyanson-kyson-witherspoon-full-orioles-prospect-haul/ Both guys have overhanging fastball velocity/health/effectiveness concerns and profile anywhere from #3 to #5 in a rotation to considerable reliever risk in the case of Witherspoon. The OF Azocar is at least 2-3 years away.
  15. I can’t believe they sent Quero down, they must really be unhappy with his game but to keep Romo is really head scratching.
  16. Things were flying so fast I didn’t get a chance to look at this deal. Not saying Boston didn’t give up a lot, it everytime there is a hyperventilating deal about a haul wouldn’t you believe it is headlined by pitching.

  18. After the Dodgers added Tarik Skubal to arguably the most loaded roster in baseball history, the cries for major financial changes to the sport grew even louder. The relatively light package L.A. surrendered to land the two-time Cy Young winner exposed the fact that the Dodgers can hoard prospects due to their ability to outbid everyone for major league talent on the open market. That allows them to keep and grow their young players and deal from that depth. The chances we got a full season in 2027 were low, and only got lower as the Dodgers continued to expose the built-in advantages they hold over everyone else in baseball. It should be a long offseason. —R.P si.com
  19. There's only one way they would trade Arias, and it's for a specific player on the Washington Nationals, according to The Athletic. "One rival executive, who spoke on condition of anonymity to be candid, said he believes the Red Sox might only trade Arias for the Washington Nationals' CJ Abrams. The Red Sox are not necessarily as high on other shortstops who've been linked to the team, such as the Los Angeles Angels' Zach Neto and Miami Marlins' Otto Lopez. Abrams is under club control for two additional seasons, Neto and Lopez for three," The Athletic wrote. Crazy that AJ Preller gave up Gore, Wood Jr., CJ Abrams and Jarlin Susana, who is now the Nats' #4 prospect OF Robert Hassell was even higher rated at the time. And Luke Voit to boot.
  20. Rockies fan insight: “Fellow rox fan here to echo the same as the above. Doyle is one of the best defenders in the game. He had the hardest throw in the stats cast era and is flat out amazing. The hitting can use some work (problems due to the prior rockies regime, IMO). His WAR from last year is a tale of two players. His wife had a miscarriage and he didn't recover from that prior to the all star break. He was negative WAR before the all star break then crushed it in the second half of the season to finish at above average WAR. Details below: https://www.purplerow.com/colorado-rockies-roster/77181/colorado-rockies-player-review-brenton-doyle-overcame-a-miserable-first-half-to-finish-with-a-positive-impact I agree that this seems to be a win win on paper. You'll get a center fielder who is basically a walking defensive highlights reel. If you can solve the offense (probably on the off season), you've probably robbed us blind. For what it's worth, the Rockies need pitchers for next year and a 4/5, starter who's control based with lots of pitches seems to be our go to. All the best to doyle and I hope he crushes it for the white Sox!” I’m more hopeful than the “probably in the off season” part.
  21. Listen to the Sox machine podcast again - you must have misheard. “Following the acquisition of Luis Castillo, Fegan highlighted that rather than chasing expensive external leverage relief, the White Sox view Smith and McDougal in Triple-A as internal bullpen solutions to bolster their relief corps.”
  22. Not sure if this was already posted but it’s encouraging:
  23. https://www.yahoo.com/sports/articles/best-mlb-farm-systems-trade-234002603.html All the AL Central farm systems except KC stacked up at 7-10 have to be taking Roch into account despite not being listed Dodgers passed by Mariners for #1
  24. Another poster shared similar sentiment from a Rockies forum post in this thread, calling Doyle “a dog”. Seems taylor made for Schrif cheese too… “O-DOYLE RULES!!!”
  25. PIT post game guy apparently thinks he's just out of shape lol He does look somewhat thicker, though the yeti and St. Bernard comparisons seem a bit much...
  26. I really think this is a prototypical Fuller / Getz guy. After his breakout year in 2024, he lowered his hands some and tried to hit for a higher average by sacrificing some launch angle. In his rehab stint he expressed his frustration with changing what had been working, likening it to being “on a hamster wheel”. Fuller will likely bring his hands back up ( like he did with Vargas ), work to improve his bat speed, and encourage him to do more focused damage in the zone with a launch angle that maximizes SLG for some AVG. If they platoon him with Peters I’m guessing he gets about 150 - 180 at bats and we will see something like .260 / .325 / .460. Somewhere in the 10 bombs range with 15 stolen bases and good glove defense. If Peters can’t break out of his slump and adjust to the league, we also brought in an insurance policy here. Best case scenario is we get him back on track and got a 3 - 4 WAR centerfielder for the next three years. When I first took a look at his numbers, I was confused and pissed… but the more I have learned about this kid - I completely get it and really think that this will be a move that a lot of people applaud with surprise.
