They don’t even have a concept of a plan…3 points
-
As far as the plan Getz has said some things to the media about self-improvement (for wont of a better term) from the young players and "building from within." With the lockout coming the belief is JR has told him no contracts longer than a single year which automatically rules out any good free agents. More than likely the plan will be to look for pieces that could be dealt at the trade deadline for prospects. Some call that "dumpster diving" which isn't inaccurate in my opinion. You are correct nothing really changes until JR is gone from the organization along with his lackeys and ass-kissers. My guess with Tauchman is because he is in his mid-30's has been injured often and they think he won't stay healthy enough to repeat his production. Hill supposedly gives them a guy who can play center field when Robert is either traded or gets injured. Hill of course can't hit worth a damn.3 points

Just stop with this. No one complained after 2005. Not even Lip, me, or any of the others who ruin your life by not liking bad baseball.3 points

To absolve the head of minor league development for a complete lack of minor league player development is criminal.2 points

Coming off an extended break from the White Sox, can someone please fill me in on what our plan is for this offseason? Why did we just let Tauchman go despite him having some value as a rotational piece at minimum? Who the f*** is Derek Hill and why did we tender him instead? Are there any rumors out there on what else we plan to do? I’ve got to be honest, the little I have seen so far (I know it’s very early) hasn’t instilled much excitement and my expectations were pretty low to begin with. I get we are stuck with limited spending until Jerry is gone, but I would expect at least a couple of decent vets added on shorter term deals given the fact we have almost zero payroll commitments and the fact we can’t get a top 10 pick again.2 points

ZIPS is even less useful than that projection that a bunch of high schoolers came up with. Its predictive value is basically nil, particularly for young players, and is even worse at determining team records. it surprises me that Fangraphs still publishes it2 points

Just imagine never having signed a player to a $100+ million dollar contract and your biggest contract handed out is to a buster named Benintendi. 🤣2 points

That was basically his point - this franchise could be a powerhouse if run the right way. But that's certainly not the case right now.1 point

Can I make a mockery of this website’s article? This dude would be the worst Rule 5 pick ever. https://www.sportsmockery.com/chicago-white-sox/white-sox-might-take-a-big-swing-in-the-rule-5-draft/1 point

I mean the thing with the Marvin Lewis bengals was he made the playoffs every year just never won. Big difference compared to going to the playoffs twice in 12 years and never winning.1 point

It’s pretty obvious that Getz only picked up Robert’s option so he can possibly increase his value and be dealt for prospects that help in the rebuild. It’s also obvious that the Sox would dump Benintendi in a second if any team was willing to take on all of most of his contract. No one wants him. This is the state of a team with an owner that is on the way out. Jerry has no incentive (in his own mind) to spend money on payroll. He is simply using the rebuild excuse to not spend and he has never cared all that much about winning anyways.1 point

it's called the never ending cheap ass way of habitual losing.......reserved for baseball you can get away with it with great scouting and development and have great seasons but flat post seasons and be like the Brewers or not so long ago Rays......they are just superior farm systems for large markets as well1 point

Tatis Robert and Abreu represent the biggest fWAR combination from intl players originating with one organization 2013-2023. Not to mention Moncada and Jimenez were both top international signees with BOS and CHC. That said Paddy was pretty bad after the Robert deal, as Norge Vera was the biggest move and they were severely limited in spending compared to other organizations LAD SDP TEX et. They were also crippledny the lack of a coherent Dominican strategy/infrastructure dating back to Dave Wilder (2007).1 point

I want to see how these moves play out. A bunch here have decided on day one that he sucked, didn't deserve the job, and that every single move he made was insignificant, and also ... sucked. By pushing back on the people who will deride every single development, I have become a "Getz-lover" and "naive". I see reality just fine. I don't need to make sure everybody sees reality the exact same way I do like the people who barrel in and make sure everyone knows that JR is cheap, and that every move Getz makes sucks.1 point

We can argue about SD (quickly returning to mid market, up for sale reportedly) and SFG if they can land some more big fish like an Imai, for example...AZ (Burnes deal, Bumgarner prior to that) and Seattle are both in a sort of crossover region between mid markets and big spenders. For now: SD and AZ (mids, debt issues), SFG and Seattle in that top tier or just right behind it.1 point

While still skeptical of Poles talent evaluation, it was hard not to appreciate his accomplishments yesterday. The offensive line is one of the best in the league, largely due to the offseason moves of Dalman, Jackson and Thuney. One of the reasons it was easy for me to fly off on Poles when that group started slow (esp Dalman) was that despite it being commonly said that it takes oline and offense time to gel, as a bears fan it’s been pretty rare to see our groups improve in season. They are either good right away and slowly atrophy, or bad and stay bad. The bears across almost every major position group have been improving, as people who watch functioning organizations say is possible. Quite a sight. the one area that will still paint as disappointing is DLine, which is way too expensive to be this mid. But even they played great vs the run yesterday.1 point

I looked in the mirror. The Sox still suck and so does Getz. 🤣1 point

Dude, I'll be dealing with the rentals, and you and Liptak are on every string, making sure to piss on every non-critical post. Look in the mirror.1 point

When you are a combined 122 games under .500 for 2 seasons, mediocre is a large improvement.1 point

LOL. No you wouldn't. You're not happy when they win. My point stands. 29 teams don't run 3 All-Stars out there with 2 more on the bench. The Sox are in a rebuild. They will get better, regardless of when Ishbia takes over.1 point

Youre easily one of my favorite posters. Your opinions are always spot on and you probably hold your tongue on a lot of the BS you read here. I'm too much of a Sox supporter to see Sox fans constantly trashing the team like this was a Cubs forum. While I don 't buy into the Sox /Cubs fans fighting I do acknowledge the animosity is there. I understand there's a lot to be critical of but the amount of butt hurt has far surpassed anything I thought grown men could cry about over a baseball team . It's like a custody battle , just irrational biases against something you once professed love for but will coming crawling back to eventually. Sox podcasters and national media are more fair. I just saw a Baseball America Podcast with JJ Cooper & Geoff Pontes pontificating over the state of the Sox rebuild. And while they arent sure who will be part of the core they they were as fair as possible on seeing the youngsters flaws and what could derail or propel them forward. Funny thing was I dont think they mentioned the Ishbia's coming ownership which is perhaps the biggest reason to think the Sox finally could have an owner willing to play with the big boys. Jj Cooper thought Getz was really trying to modernize. If Getz can just keep the team developing prospects and pushing the win numbers forward for the next few years the Sox just might be in a position for Ishbia to come in with a flourish of spending to push the Sox from a near or slightly over . .500 team to a team that can win the division consistently. The fans from 20-50 years old may get to see a new stadium and a pretty good modern team that supports the farm and 26 man roster with equal gusto .1 point

Yep. As Sox fans, we've spent the last 20-30 years remarking at how certain free agent contracts have been terrible for that other team and that they're going to regret it. Meanwhile, the Sox have held the line at the $75M contract mark and have been one of the worst teams over the last 20 years in terms of making the playoffs and actually winning playoff games. I don't know about you guys, but I'm not going to pity these other franchises for their supposed stupidity, I'm going to ENVY them because we're stuck with the Sox organization's stupidity at how they do things.1 point
