  1. Meh....sounds more like a rallying cry to me. This quote doesn't bother me as much as some of the ones he's had in the past. Of course the 'vocal leader' will say things like this. Its the old "captain goes down with his ship; General never leaves his men behind" philosophy. There is no way he actually believes what he said, as I'm sure he would love to hit behind a Griffey or something, but the writing is on the wall. Rally with what you have, because the market is not open to make any large acquisition.
  2. The Bears are already in mid-season debacle form having lost their starting QB again, and having their starting running back MIA. It's a comedy of errors as always at Halas Hall. Benson had long holdout written all over him from the outset. I never liked his attitude from day 1.
  3. QUOTE(Whitesoxfan56 @ Aug 18, 2005 -> 07:38 AM) PK is one of the most underrated defensive players at his position. So I would much rather have PK then young at 1st. Young is more of a DH then 1 1B. PK>>>>>>>>>>Young The one thing that often gets overlooked with Konerko is his ability to pick every low throw out of the dirt. He makes all the in-between hops look easy, something that very few 1b out there can do. He also has a very good arm for a first basemen but that shouldn't be suprising because he used to catch. However, sometimes his range from left to right can be questioned. On Tuesday night, he had one of his classic slow-motion dives for a ball hit to his left. But overall, his defense is not one of our pressing concerns at this point. Young would be our DH which would be fine IMO. (not that this is going to happen )
  4. Play on Bodog....You get a 20% automatic deposit bonus every time you make a deposit. It's a relatively new site but thus far I have been very impressed. One qualification, you have to let me refer you.
  5. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Aug 17, 2005 -> 09:37 PM) Thats odd, lets look at this years august stats. Crede is batting .136 with a .174OBP. Thats pretty sexy. Jermaine Dye before tonight was hitting .188BA with a .231OBP. Timo even with his offensive outburst over his last few games is still batting .192BA with a .276OBP. Pablo Ozuna has a .143BA with a .200 OBP. Arow is batting .240 for the month with .279OBP. Gooch is hitting .222 for the month. Its so odd to see large segments of our team all slump at the exact same time. Brings up the question: Slump or just not that good??? It's not like we've had any long stretches of hitting the cover off the ball collectively as a team. I'm just happy for our huge division lead to give us a cushion to sort this offensive slide out. (10 out 12 games scoring 4 runs or less)
  6. Please refer to my post in some other thread...hold on let me copy it over here
  7. Usually golfing is bad for your baseball swing..but for this team it couldn't come at a better time :banghead
  8. Happy Birthday Nuke...If you're in the chat tonight i'll holla at you.

  12. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Aug 17, 2005 -> 10:42 AM) I know everyone is going to be all negative and s***, saying we dont need this, best record, not going to happen etc. We really need Kenny to sell the farm on this one, we should have claim KGJ in the first place. s***, I would take that contract right now for sure. I would love to have Griffey. I would sell the farm for him. And yes we could use another bat. But will it happen? no... Too much media frenzy = NO TRADE
  13. QUOTE(Mr. Showtime @ Aug 14, 2005 -> 09:10 PM) This thread made me laugh so hard. I'm so glad I clicked ont this thread...it is literally laugh out loud funny And I can't even use Microsoft Paint well...
  14. QUOTE(Steff @ Aug 17, 2005 -> 09:41 AM) No... her name is common sense. Hmm...she sounds hot What exactly is the point of this thread? I'm only replying because I'm very "post-ey' today

    Nicknames.

    I used to have a nickname, but I won't divulge as I know alot of my friends lurk this site and I don't need to hear about it later But my last name is kinda nick-namey anyway so that usually gets me through.
  16. QUOTE(spiderman @ Aug 17, 2005 -> 09:40 AM) I think we're on our last breath with this Griffey trade. ^^ Post of the day ^^
  17. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Aug 17, 2005 -> 09:20 AM) The entire American League could be able to block McCarthy before the Reds even got a shot at claiming him. There is no way a team would let McCarthy slide through, especially a contender cause if they saw Brandon on his way through they'd instantly know a big time deal was in play and nab McCarthy, therefor in a sense blocking the trade. Good point Jas...I completely forgot that the AL gets first "diddys" on blocking deals.
  18. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Aug 17, 2005 -> 09:28 AM) Wouldn't that border on collusion? Nah...this is the real world.
  19. QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Aug 17, 2005 -> 08:59 AM) It seems pretty simple to you because you're negating the impact that will have on trade negotiations between the CWS & PIT. PIT knows they won't get BMac if they put in a claim because the CWS would just pull him back. But if they want to play the spoiler anyways then they risk good trade relations with the CWS. Considering the history of trades between the two clubs that would be a pretty stupid thing to risk on their part. I doubt very much that non-contenders take an active role in thwarting trades like that. If you have a historical reference suggesting otherwise lay it on us. Ok...so you're implying that the Sox would look at the Pirates business/baseball decision as a personal stab against them? So much so that it would hinder future trades? I may be an idiot but to think that KW would stop dealing with the Pirates because they chose to make an intelligent baseball decision is an absolutely ridiculous notion. I'll have to get back to you on the historical references as I'll have to call some current/past GM's and ask them about which teams they currently hold vendettas against for blocking their waiver wire deals... :headshake
  20. QUOTE(Steff @ Aug 17, 2005 -> 08:47 AM) When will you people realize that in order to have a logical conversation you need to be speaking to someone with a sense of logic. Shush up...I'm obviously tired and bored at work and trying to get into a senseless and neverending argument...would you let us be??
  21. QUOTE(farmteam @ Aug 17, 2005 -> 08:41 AM) Maybe he like John Mellencamp? I heard a rumor he was going to change his name to this:
  22. QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Aug 17, 2005 -> 08:37 AM) How often has a team claimed players going to the non-contender to block a contender? I can't recall any such year. I don't think we can rule it out just yet. Ok...lets put things in perspective. Your the Pittsburgh Pirates. (aka the Chicago Cubs farm system) and sitting in last place in the NL Central behind Cincinnati. The Reds, much like you, also suck yet sit on top of you in the standings. If you see BMac on the waiver wire would you not claim him to stop the Reds from having a chance to recieve a quality arm in a trade? It seems pretty simple to me.
  23. QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Aug 17, 2005 -> 08:33 AM) Maybe the Reds COO was hinting to Williams to throw in BMac (a potential #1). Keep hope alive I say It's getting interesting at least. Anderson looked good out there. If he continues to play well the next week or so maybe we can swing KGJ for a hot Anderson, BMac, & PTBNL. Would you do that & do you think the Reds would bite? Can't trade players on the 40 man without them clearing waivers....next topic??
  24. Off the top of my head is this not the chronological order of his name: Sean Combs Sean "puff daddy" Combs Sean "puffy" Combs Puff Daddy Puffer Puffy P Diddy Diddy Ok...i added a few So is this not a perfect example of the dumbing down of America? It's down to "Diddy" which isn't even a word...although I did find this intriguing: Urban Dictionary-Diddy
