How Concerned Should We Be?
There’s a lot more wrong with this team than injuries, though. The little league defense, the inability to take a walk, the extreme ability to issue a walk, the roster flaws and redundancy, the manager decision making. While I definitely don’t think they’re as bad a team as they’ve shown, and I still think they can recover from this, I’m not going to expect things to suddenly turn around once they’re healthy. And for that matter, I’m not actually expecting them to ever “be healthy” at this point, whatever that may even mean.

So, Pollock, how are you enjoying the trade so far?

Sox @ Twins
Welcome to apathy. The true rock bottom.

Eloy Out 6-8 Weeks
We’re totally misunderstanding each other. It’s fine. I’d rather bond over the shared misery that is being a fan of this team right now.

Yeah, I have no interest in helping you better articulate your shitty hot takes. Carry on with your baseless judgmental nonsense.

What The Actual F# Is Wrong With This Team?
I think the division still mostly sucks and the Sox are clearly the superior team (even with this recent atrocious stretch), but judging the improvement of any team based on 15 games feels premature.

Eloy Out 6-8 Weeks
Well then you probably should have led off with the fact that you were basing this off of a random rumor from an internet message board, you know, rather than saying:

Eloy Out 6-8 Weeks
Allegedly 30 pounds overweight? Have you heard Eloy/the training staff say that or are you deciding what the right weight is for him? Serious question btw.

Eloy Out 6-8 Weeks
This is really your belief?

Eloy Out 6-8 Weeks
The amount of shitty comments in here making fun of Eloy is embarrassing.

Casual Fans
This is way too easy to say in hindsight. Sure, they ended up looking lethargic the whole time, but we’ve all seen many games where teams look like crap for a few innings and then put up a 4 spot.

Old Sock Drawer, ex Sox player discussion
Yeah, the playoffs being somewhat of a crapshoot is not breaking news. I’d rather see the team that spent years losing on purpose in order to have a window of contention put themselves in the best possible position to succeed, rather than cross their fingers and hope for the best like some fringe contender. But I guess that’s just me!

Old Sock Drawer, ex Sox player discussion
True. But this is a team with championship aspirations, not some feel good story underdog. It’s a waaaaaay too passive philosophy for my liking ?♂️

That’s a pretty low bar, no?

Sox Acquire Reese McGuire for Zack Collins, Officially
By this logic, anyone that doesn’t make it in the big leagues just didn’t care enough? Otherwise they would have been more coachable? And thus made adjustments? What?

Cueto to Sox (Official)
Thanks, didn't know about that.

Cueto to Sox (Official)
I feel like they brought him in because they need another arm to depend on <gulp>. If they were bringing him in originally for depth, wouldn't they have done that earlier?

Score the Offseason!
Yeah, I think there's something to being more critical of the teams you follow/love. I also think that ties into the difference in opinion between fans and national writes. Many of us here watch most, if not all of the Sox games, so we are all too familiar with the roster and its strengths and flaws. Then you have someone like Jim Bowden's write up from the Athletic, as quoted above, and there's not a single mention of starting pitching. Nothing about losing Rodon, nothing about hoping Kopech can provide a significant increase in innings from his 69.1 IP from last year, nothing about the lack of depth. It's just a really high-level, borderline lazy view of the offseason IMO.

4th best rotation?
Really curious to see how Lynn does this year. I keep having this annoying gut feeling that we see some pretty significant regression from him. Wouldn't exactly be a shock to see age catch up to him a bit. That said, I also wouldn't be the least bit surprised if he continues to be a workhorse and a really good SP. I guess I see him as having the widest range of outcomes among the SPs. And no, I haven't forgotten that Cease exists.
