Baseball, even the great teams, get hot and cold. Some teams are unfortunate enough to fizz in the postseason. The Sox caught fire at the right time in 05 and I was thankful Ozzie managed the Sox to the title. There were no guarantees we'd ever win another WS and voila it's worked out that way. I don't see how Rob Thomson can get all the credit for the Phils and the Dodgers and Mets skippers tons of blame. The Mets and Dodgers unfortunately are a victim of playing like hell at the wrong time, that's all. Otherwise, Rob Thomson is the new Earl Weaver. Is Thomson that great? Doubtful. But could he lead the team to an Ozzie this year? Of course. Stuff happens.

They sure seem relieved and happy when it was reported he's going to leave the Sox and the Sox keep the young guys for 1B/DH. I like Vaughn, but I doubt he'll ever have Jose's production. I like Eloy but he figures to keep getting hurt til he proves otherwise. I like Sheets as well but he's no Jose IMO.

I'm shocked there were 37 complete games. I'd guess they all were by older pitchers who threw complete games back in the day. Shocking there were 37. I'm also stunned the Sox had that many quality starts. A quality start is going six innings and allowing 3 runs or less? Hmmm. Not many Sox pitchers went into the seventh IMO. A lot must have gone six. If we had that many guys go six, the Sox IMO should revolutionize pitching. Only go with starters, Eight or so plus a closer. Let the starter go six. Then put in another "starter" for the seventh and eighth with Liam the 9th. Look, why let a starter keep you in the game thru six. Only to use 3-5 more pitchers the rest of the way. Out of those 5 pitchers, at least two will be horsebleep on a given night. There goes the game. If a Sox pitcher gets taken out in the sixth which happens a lot, it's even a bigger chance 2 of the 5 relievers to come in will blow chunks.

Yes! I will watch him, yes I will. Please sign him. Sox loss. Cubs gain. I despise the Cubs but Jose will shine in Wrigley especially if the ball is live next season. Jose is everything you want on your baseball team. Dumb move White Sox. All the peeps tired of Jose are missing the boat here. He's not that old.

I'd take a chance on Maddon or Ron Washington. Those are my two. Maddon can't go from a genius to awful in a handful of years. Washington seems to be beloved by all.

Exactly. Why would any team want Moncada? Yes he can field. Only way you keep him is if the Sox try to build a winner with pitching and defense. If you can build a team around Cease, Gio, Kopech, Cueto types and Hendriks and trade all our sluggers who can't field for guys who can field and throw ,then you keep Yoan. Not much reason to hold onto him in any other scenario IMO. Sox need to find a way to revolutionize the 2020s game. Get starters who can heaven forbid give you seven innings, yes seven full innings of excellence and then cover two innings of relief instead of 4 or 5. Build that pitching staff and defense, Hahn.

The ball was dead this season for gosh sakes. Also a starter only goes 4-5 innings. That means 2-3 at bats are against guys that throw 95 then after you foul two off get you out with a cutter. Granted some of these relievers are hacks but more often than not they either walk a guy or strike out a guy. Jose has more than 15 HR power. He will prove that for his next team if it's a live ball.

Typical b.s. Shows up in the real life working world too, Arguably the best player on the team, best everyday grinder in the organization, likeable, still productive, he's the guy the company gladly gets rid of. And nobody is really outraged. Been there too long. Need new blood, young blood, blah blah. All a bunch of crud. Jose Abreu should retire a White Sox. I truly hope he goes to the Cubs just to rub it in the Sox front office faces when he hits .305 with 35 homers. Once the ball is deemed "live" again he'll go back to lift and pulling. So sad. This hurts our team A LOT. Sox better respond with some good additions to the roster. Subtracking Jose is not a positive, it's outrageous. p.s. This is another sign of Hahn's failed rebuild and all those tank years going for naught. This was not the plan. Jose was supposed to be hoisting a trophy or two at the Sox parade or two,. Not leaving the team after a disgraceful .500 season.

If Jose got no Sox offer I hope he blasts Hahn, LaRussa, Jerry and the whole organization. He's a Sox legend possibly being kicked out the door. Still productive, was the Sox best regular this season. Not bringing him back should be mocked throughout the league. Some contending team will sign him, start him at first and bat him third or fifth and not think twice about it. Infuriates me.

Sheets appears to be just another guy. He's no factor. Please please get rid of Grandal somehow. Trade him to some team any team Tell Eloy to drop 15 pounds, get limber this winter and go to Zona for six weeks and learn how to play LF. so that leaves Vaughn and Jose splitting 1B and DH. If Jose doesn't wanna, fine let him walk. I'd think Jose would 'possibly' be willing to adapt to halftime DH or even more. Maybe Jose won't find a team that'll put him at 1B and will prefer DH. There' just no logical reason to trade your best player. Dumb.

I think all our guys had trouble lifting and pulling the dead ball. Also it's only gonna get harder for anybody but Judge to hit HRs cause of the explosion of the sinking fastball and other pitches. Hitters get fooled so often trying to his HRs. If the ball stays dead, 15-20 HRs isn't bad. If the ball enlivens, Jose can hit 30 again me think.

Sp sad. This article says Jose is gone. Makes me sick. This organization is very close to losing me as a fan for good. That means I wouldn't be posting here anymore once that happens which should make any haters I have happy. Everything the Sox do lately angers me. It makes no sense to get rid of Jose Abreu. So what if we have 4-5 DHs and no room for them all. Who they heck caused this problem?? Inept front office types. So get rid of Jose to help make room. It just saddens and sickens me to no end. At least let the new manager have some input on if he wants Jose around. You pay the guy 10 mill a year for three more years; third year club option. If Jose can get way more than that on the market, good for him. But Sox won't even try. Sox just had an old manager. Do some fricking research and hire a can't miss former player who is young. Not somebody like that clown the Royals brought in from Japan League that one year, I forget his name, but somebody young. I can see what's happening. Sox will hire one of those plastic, mummy like veteran managers between 58 and 65 who will manage the team through the painful era coming up. Face facts. We are the new Baltimore Orioles, a team going nowhere. Truthfully more than a manager the Sox need some GM who knows what he's doing and how to hire good scouts and acquire real baseball players not just compile an everyday roster of stud athletes prone to getting hurt and tall pitchers who throw way too many pitches leading into four innings of pathetic bullpen work from a bunch of no names. Sox always seem to have a name closer though. Geezus hire a new GM, Sox. And if you are gonna hire one of those three names, just don't. At this point make it Ozzie or AJP or even bring back Renteria.

That was the game we blew a 6-run lead in the ninth or something? When Sox blew that big lead, in retrospect the season was over. We knew the team was a trainwreck with a poorly constructed roster by a bad GM and an over the hill manager writing the lineup cards.

I read the story. It's kind of neat Jose wanted to take in the sights and sounds and smells watching the game with Cairo. He probably was feeling out whether he could envision managing someday. With no reason to play, it's neat he enjoyed just hanging out.

First time in my life as a Sox fan I've felt this way at the end of a season. No hyperbole. Yes thank goodness this season is OVA. I just see a lot of unlikeable players and really no possible scenario that this thing gets turned around anytime soon. I wonder if Hawk sensed what was coming when he retired. Don't know how he'd have handled calling these boring games.

A 10-1 loss to end the season? How fitting. Did they boo the bums off the field? Or would that be a little overkill. By far the least enjoyable season of my entire life. This team stunk. Even though we had some decent starting pitchers, I personally did not care to watch them go their five innings. I watched most games on MLB but usually the last 4-5 innings for the dull parade of relievers. For me personally all I cared about was following Jose's BA. That's truly it. The injuries angered me beyond belief. A couple times I was sucked in and hopeful the Sox would turn it on. I think we got 4 or 5 over .500 and it looked like Cairo might lead us to greatness.postseson ball. That horrific stretch the past couple weeks is embarrassing and heads should roll. The Sox were a disgrace to their fans this season despite the .500 record. I feel unless there's total revamping of roster team will be even worse next season. Get rid of Harrison, Grandal, Moncada, Pollock, almost the entire bullpen for starters. Get rid of Leury and our other utility players including Elvis. Keep Eloy and Robert and TA but send them to specialists to give them a training regimen to avoid injuries. Good luck Hahn. Your team stunk.

I wonder what team Jose will pick if he leaves. My guess is some AL East team that needs a bat, a leader and winner. Hope it's the Cubs though. Keep Chicago icons in Chicago. Hopefully Jerry demands we sign Jose. If I owned the team I would. Jerry's been signing Jose's checks I assume and Jose deserves to leave the Sox only if he wants to.

If Jose is a free agent I hope he stays in Chicago. Let him play 3 solid seasons for the Cubs if the Sox don't want him. He's not finished folks. I get madder and madder when I see people think it actually would help the Sox for him to leave. I love me some Abreu.

It just frustrates me that Sox fans (not you) want to get rid of the familiar, consistent guy. In my world Jose is a Sox forever, til he turns into Konerko during Konerko's last season He is at .304, 15 HR and 75 RBI. Not bad for the era in which hitters production is way down. His defense has been fine. What I'm saying is he remains by far the team's best everyday player (not counting Cease). Just leave the guy at 1B rather than have some AL East team pick him up and be happy with him 3 more years or so. Trade Sheets or Vaughn if you have to but keep Jose for gosh sakes. So what if he makes a lot more outs than he used to. Everybody does in this era of 5 inning starters followed by the one inning relief wonders who finish games by striking out guys like Jose. Two fastballsl get fouled off, chase the slider in the dirt, Sit down, boring baseball.

I can accept that theory. Thanks for actual answer to my puzzlement. I happen to think Jose could be given the late career Konerko contract minimum. How bout 2 years 17-18 million. Add an incentive or two if they still put those in contracts. For Jose how bout incentive for 95 RBI and 27 homers.

I always laugh when Sox fans clamor to get rid of a proven White Sox veteran and beloved player, the team's player of the year. Cause for Jose to leave the Sox that means some other team and all its analysts that sign him for good money think he still has another good year or two or three left in him. Some team is gonna sign him for significant cash, why not the Sox? Again his reward for being our best player is "thanx, see ya buddy; we'll bring u back when the statue is constructed and ready to put up." When did modern baseball sabes people decide 35 is ancient? Used to be they'd go to 39 minimum if they were "name" stars. There have been some exceptions. There just seems something wrong in wanting Sox best player this season to take a hike. It's weird, frankly.

If the Phillies dismiss Rob Thompson, he should be the man. Won't be, but should be IMO.
