  1. I love the fact four infielders must be in the infield and not on the outfield grass at all times. I despise the shift so much it has almost ruined baseball for me. Players won't bunt to beat the shift. I despise when a lefty slams the ball in the hole between first and second and the outfielder throws him out. I despise when a player rocks what should be a single up the middle but there's an infielder right over second base. Anything please to get rid of shifts. I also hate when a player does the Paul Konerko unflipping the velcro on the batting glove after every pitch. Call me insane and in need of help but I can't take it. Yet I of course loved Konerko. I'm not crazy about Manfred's ruining the playoffs but please please get rid of shifts and please start calling the belt high fastball a strike. I can't take it.
  2. Our minor league teams figure to have some "name" players like Hamilton. Q: I love Matt Reynolds HR today. My question is why sign him though? There's no room for him on the MLB roster in the foreseeable future is there? Yet he's young still. He's a former second rounder. I just wonder why Sox bring in some guys if they stand little to no chance of playing in the bigs. ... BTW as much as I've ripped on Jake Burger in the past I'm rooting for him at Double A and hopefully beyond. Any guy that appears to have gotten his act together physically is OK by me. Are we hoping to trade him someday? Again, doesnt seem to be any room for him on the MLB roster in immediate future.
  3. I hear you. You know, if it wasn't for Tony's awful, unacceptable DUI, I'd really be enthused. I like watching his interviews on whitesox.com. I hope I'm as sharp at him at his age. I personally think we have a smart manager. I'll be interested in reading game threads this year as we second-guess what's going on in game threads.
  4. The way you were treated is what annoys me about the business world and in some respects our country. What did you do to deserve this ire of the "organization head" who wouldn't wish you luck as you left? Was there any reason for he/she to act this way? I don't understand why staying with a company a long time now is sometimes considered a bad thing. Why did they threaten to fire you at the 21 year mark? Sorry for carrying on, I just get mad when the corporate world acts this way. ... as far as Coop, we all know he's grumpy. He made a good buck I'm sure with the Sox; would assume he gets the pension. Coop is 65. He needs to chill out, be happy and if he wants to stay in baseball use his connections. Coop is kind of a curmudgeon.
  5. I wish the Sox would make room for Zack. First rounder, 10th overall pick. Now he's 26. If the scouts think he has it, he should play now. If he doesn't, then do the guy a favor and trade him for some more pitching or something. Don't see how this is debatable. He's a first rounder and he's "ready."
  6. Good. Thanks.
  7. What's this about? I am concerned a little bit more after reading this. Are the darn vaccines safe or not??
  8. That almost has to be the penalty, announced a couple times a game or every inning for the first home stand. If ejection isn't the penalty, the folks drinking heavily will in no way have their masks on.
  9. At the same time, I check the CNN and Fox websites on my phone a couple times a day and if you read some of the stuff on there regarding COVID and other issues, it can make your head spin out of control. That's probably why I change my mind so much (p.s. Br. Rice is 9-0; nice little team with the soph PG).
  10. Good points. I was just growing paranoid after seeing some people say there have been some nasty side effects (probably exaggerated). You are right.
  11. I haven't had the flu in years thanks to the flu shot. I am being a baby, but some of us have become quite soft when not facing adversity for a long while (knock on wood). I'll "suck it up" while hoping those who say there are possible long-term problems are full of bleep.
  12. That's helpful. Good point. I need to hear more points like that. The fact the rich want the vaccine desperately does lessen my concern. The rich know things we non-rich do not know in many instances. I just have started to worry in seeing videos (which could be lies; everybody's telling lies these days) in which people are talking about never having any health problems and now having a ton of health problems after taking the second dose. The people who say the vaccine is dangerous can get to you after a while. I'm the type who likes to hear both sides of an issue and I'd hate to inflict ill health on my body after many many years of good to great health (knock on wood). So there is some concern after a while.
  13. Not a bad idea. Too expensive though. My wallet says don't do that.
  14. Call me a worry wart but yes I'm a little concerned about the two doses and possible side effects and long-term side effects. What's the best way to avoid these feelings? Why are we not reading more about side effects? How can 3 different vaccines all be out at the same time? Has anybody gotten Maderna the first dose then gone in and they've given you Pfizer the second dose? My feeling is I'll do what they say and get all the shots when made available to me (no availability yet) but in 2021 I've gone from wanting badly to get the vaccine to now being a little scared. Yeah I'll admit it while acknowledging I'm probably just a big baby. And this is a guy who loves the flu shot. I get it every year about the same time and love it and trust it.
  15. It's interesting how many true bashers the Sox have in their lineup. That's why I want Vaughn up as soon as possible. Another basher. In terms of pure hitting talent this puts the 1977 Sox to shame even. All these great bashers take the heat off players individually. Who needs to feel pressure when there's Eloy, Robert, Vaughn, Moncada, Anderson, Abreu and Grandal. Even Collins is a prospect with power. My point is Eloy is amazing hitter who should be so carefree with so many strong bats around him. I would guess the only negative is we'll probably have a team hit into a lot of double plays, hopefully not too many in this era of lift and pull. GO ELOY!
  16. That was a blast. Can u imagine LaRussa watching Vaughn hit that blast and thinking, "I've got THAT GUY in my lineup, too???" LaRussa is loaded with talent. I'm still a little skeptical on pitching but he's got some bats.
  17. I was thinking this is a time to always remind yourself to be selfish. Only you can save yourself from stuff like COVID. Not to be a cynic but again only you truly cares about you (others might to a certain extent of course).
  18. Are we in a stage we can sort of "let our guard down?" Just asking because I have some travel opportunities and still am not crazy about getting on a plane or train or bus or stay in a hotel. I have not had the opportunity to be vaccinated yet. I ask because at least around here the general consensus is people are going back to work in person, people are letting their guards down definitely. I know a lot of this has been political but where do you all see us in terms of safety/everyday life? I STILL don't want to get COVID. Thank u.
  19. I'm definitely willing to do anything to avoid Covid knock on wood and have made the decision to take the vaccines as presented to me. I'm just waiting to get the call it's my turn. I was wondering though ... isn't it strange we are hearing today it might be wise to get three doses? Does the fact there is discussion about what should be done at this point concern anybody? Shouldn't our scientists be convinced at the proper course of action and that's that? And shouldn't we hear daily reports of any problems of people who have been vaccinated? p.s. I think I read too many articles. They can scare/confuse a person after a while. https://www.nbcnews.com/health/health-news/third-pfizer-dose-covid-19-vaccine-maker-studying-booster-shots-n1258775
  20. If this were the old days you all could read my opinions of Franken, Cruz and Ventura, etc. I've learned my lesson. Ah for the good old days. ... More seriously, glad u and your family members are safe, Tex. My power went off here for 2-3 hours and it's amazing how quickly the place can freeze up. Glad u are OK, Tex. I watched some clips from Austin and the lines to get in a convenience store were around the block. Scary days.
  21. Rest in peace, Mr. Limbaugh.
  22. I wear my mask every day, everywhere and hope it has protected me. I did finally catch a vicious cough/cold two weeks ago just as the daily barrage of temperatures in the single digits hit. That baffled me as to how I caught it with the mask on my face all day all the time. ... As far as issues some have with wearing a mask ... here's my unsolicited speculation. This has been going on a long time (a full year) and no doubt the "science" has been questioned by some. No doubt politics has infiltrated this pandemic all the way (Cuomo, Trump, individual governors etc, caught in the act of dining out while not wearing masks themselves). Some people just are fed up at some of the science they consider nonsense, especially when the word came out that "two masks are better than one. wear two masks." I think some people wanted to punch a wall when they heard that one. Just my speculation. I know as with most issues nowadays there's no tolerance for anybody's opinion if it differs from yours (not you Harry, speaking in generls). I wear my mask. I love my mask. I wash my masks and hand dry them. If I see someone without a mask I head the other way or way way around them. My health update: Since last March, one full year, have caught one severe cough/cold; so far still no COVID has penetrated my mask/system; knock on wood.
  23. Did the South Side really get 14 inches by 103rd and Pulaski? Is it true Midway had 21 inches? Was Midway closed? That kind of stuff intrigues me.

Tex: I'm wearing two scarves these days, long underwear under the jeans and double socks. Despite the precautions, Greg still caught a moderately nasty cold and cough. Reminds me of being a kid during winter time, and walking from 103rd St and Homan to Queen of Martyrs church, stopping in there to thaw for 2-3 minutes, then continuing the trek through St. Xavier grounds, onto Brother Rice property, entering Brother Rice in the early a.m. for my first class of the day -- Swimming! Brrrr.
