  1. Kansas has its Chiefs; they don't need or want the Royals now. Missouri knows it can't lose both franchises so certainly the state will provide some big bucks via taxes to allow KCR to move downtown.
  2. I discounted the Sox signing any free agents. That won't happen. I meant trades. Name a year the start of Feb approaches and trades are made. Sox don't sign free agents unless they can find some 1 year 6 mill deals for run of the mill pitchers.
  3. I would think most teams rosters are set by now. Or will be by Jan. 20. So are we good enough to go .500 yet? Sox won't be making any moves after Jan. 20. They never do. We're nearing the end of another mostly silent offseason. Once Feb hits it's play ball.
  4. What ever happened to Eloy? Is his career hopelessly over? Remember Viciedo? What a bust. And Vaughn, who did a little better in Milwaukee?
  5. I think they will trade him in the next two weeks. But I think trading him is bad from a competition standpoint. The Sox have a few players you would now pay to see play that are in the everyday lineup. Taking Robert away weakens the team, period. If the Sox could get creative and get something out of that pitching staff, they'd win the damn division. But trading Robert just makes the Sox lousy on paper again.
  6. North Central College of Naperville is leading River Falls at halftime of the natty game in a lower division. If NC can win, I hope they hold a parade in Naperville. Not easy to win a natty.
  7. Royals will be staying in Missouri, probably downtown KC. If Kansas is acting bossy, that will seal the deal for Missouri to keep 'em. The Chiefs got a sweetheart deal. Will Kansas offer the Royals a similar offer now that they've got the NFL?
  8. Looks like the Sox are trying again. I may buy mlb.com baby.
  9. Oops. I missed this thread, so I'll say "Merry Christmas Bedford Falls." "And Happy New Year to You ... in Jail!" Kudos to all Chicagoans on the South Side who put up Christmas decorations. Nobody in American respects Christmas cheer as well as Chicagoans and their beautiful outside lights. Let's hope the New Year is special and love is the only four-letter word we need to utter all of 2026. GO SOX. GO BEARS. GO CHICAGO HOT DOGS AND ITALIAN BEEF AND BAR PIZZA! Happy NY baby!

Soxtalk is an exceptional site, free for we posers, I mean posters, but we never have a Merry Christmas thread. So I hope you all had a Merry Christmas. In honor of the holiday tell me 3 things you like/love about Chicago (not suburbia). It can be something from the past involving the Windy City too ... a.) Old Comiskey Park. It was a thrill to be in there every time I went except maybe when they had the astroturf infield and grass outfield. Weird. b.) Italian beef with soggy bun. It really is delicious. However as I age, it ruffles my stomach as do delightful White Castle burgers. c.) Christmas decorations on the southside. People come through every year and decorate their houses. True Chicagoans are special people. Hail to Mt. Greenwood. I miss you and wish u a Merry Christmas and thank u to soxtalk owners for this forum. Peace out. p.s. Did you watch Wonderful Life this year again? I did but picked it up halfway thru.
  11. I wonder if Hahn (oops Getz) knows he'll get major brownie points with Jerry if he gets rid of Robert's salary after signing the sensation from Japan.
  12. This guy will take Chicago by storm. The White Sox finally make a move that figures to show in the standings and the stands. Finally some activity on the south side.
  13. With Colson, this new guy, Beni and the high on base second baseman whose name i forgot as well as our catcher who can hit ... do some tinkering with 50 million dollars, get us another bat and 2 average veteran starters and let's go. We can beat Minnie and Detroit with our eyes closed and KC is no good.
  14. Happy days are here again. The Sox got tired of losing. Add 2 KC Royals type starting pitcher hacks for 7 mill a year apiece and I may buy mlb.com again. As Harry would sing: "The Sox got tired of losing tra-la tra-la."
  15. Wow. The Sox getting this guy is huge. A starter from day one who can hit 50 plus homers. Are happy days here again? Bears during the winter; Sox summer?
  16. I wonder why Getz didn't trade Robert this offseason. It's a lot less controversial to trade his salary now while the Bears are still in contention. Seems weird to keep one star on the team (as well as Colson) when the Sox still are not on paper considered contenders. Dump him now and it's a sidelight to the Bears. Seems weird Jerry would elect to pay him rather than dump him to the Mets for prospects.
  17. If sports truly are fixed (not saying they are) this could be a sign the Sox new owner deserves a winner. We get the No. 1 pick to go with Colson and that's two Bobby Witt's on one team in a bad division. We need our GM to start stockpiling a ton of average 4 inning pitchers who can be inserted in and out by our manager cause we'll never have the money to keep a Sale or Cease or guys like that. Get guys who can get thru the order once and revolutionize small market pitching staffs (oh for the days of Peters, Horlen, Fergie, Bob Gibson, Juan Marachal who could give u 8-9 innings a night.
  18. Do the Sox have the money to give him a proper signing bonus, etc?
  19. Remember the good ol days when the Sox, and all teams really, made a batch of offseason trades? One or two significant every year? Sox aren't even trying (captain obvious) any more to add any intrigue or interest or improvement. I'm surprised our front office and owner have pretty much thrown in the towel on improvement. Remember when the Sox traded Forster and Gossage to the Pirates for Zisk? Those were the days. Not sure why anybody would buy season tickets to this wretched team. Monty may be great and Robert dandy but that's still about it.
  20. St. Laurence seems like they are on the fringes as well. They seem to have improved but are not quite good enough to make a deep run. I wonder who will dominate basketball this year. I read Rice lost all five starters but have one stud at least. I would rank the far south side football programs now: 1.) BR. 2.) Marist. 3.) Rita. 4.) Laurence. Marist and Rice still seem fairly equal in the big scheme, unless coach Q really is dominating recruiting and turning Rice into perennial contender mabe.
  21. Oh my gosh. Better next year? I wonder if we'll stay in 7A.
  22. I hope Sam can run as well as pass. Pass happy teams don't normally win in high school. Just sayin. Will be fun to watch him. After this title I will just enjoy the games. We are vindicated by this team as a modern powerhouse. Rice got the title; any more is gravy.
  23. True. Impressive to make the final in bball then a few months later football. The school has some talented athletes and Stamos like Q was a great coach.
