Illinois High School Football Thread

So is Mt Carmel in a different classification? Do we compete against them in the state playoffs? If they are a class higher we don't have to mess with them again. -

I see on twitter it looks like we at least were down in their territory trying to cut it to one score but they had a goal line stand and an interception. ... Our boys should just take care of business and regroup and hopefully we can beat 'em in the state finals. Are we in the same classification? Too bad Carmel probably could beat some college teams. Proud of our boys. I did not watch it but it wasn't 48-0 like the benet carmel game. If we play again we'd have had no chance had we won tonight. Now we'll have the revenge motive and they'll take us lightly. But they seem just too good for anybody to beat. -

Thanks. If we win it's one of the top five wins in school history I'd think. -

Can I get the marquee network online for free? I saw some poll and Brother Rice wasn't in the top 10. It had to be some screwup. Anyhow can we beat Mt. Carmel? I hope the players win and stay healthy as well. It's obvious Mt. Carmel will be a state finalist. The question is will their opponent in the finals be Bro Rice? -
Good to have the great fathom respond to one of my posts.

Quero passes the eye test, advanced metrics be darned. ... Ever notice how baseball announcers rarely obsess on metrics? Crazy how that segment dominates the thinking of a lot of fans and front office types. Give me an Ozzie any day who doesn't care about WAR and other metrics. Ozz knows a hitter when he sees one and knows a bust when he sees one.

I went with D. Anyway you slice it, over 100 losses is embarrassing. And being the dregs of the AL Central grows old.

Katz's pitching staff was sub par for the most part. He had not much to work with however especially some bullpen pieces. He'll be better off if he can land somewhere else. He must have not impressed the higher ups with his instructing players. He should go out a lion and blast what he had to work with on the talk shows.

This is the end(my friends) Sox @ Nats 2:05 pm
greg775 replied to Kyyle23's topic in 2025 Season in Review
I can't believe the season is over. Even though I did not watch one game on MLB stream, it's always sad to me when the season ends. Off topic, you wait, the Bears may make this an enjoyable offseason (Cub fans I'm sure think they'll win it all). Bears have a good coach finally and some talent to compete. -
Don't know what Beni's war is, but to me he's an average to slightly above average player with an arm so weak it's laughable. I kind of like him, though. I think paying him that much only to have him play part time would be demoralizing for team morale. I assume Beni has some leadership qualities for when we get good. Lip might know if he's a gamer or doesn't care.

31-43 is no good but you are right, it is getting there. The problem is even though you like our pitching staff, it truly stinks IMO.

60-102 is a big fat grade of F for this season. No question. Not sure what the record was since the all star game but it seems to me the last two months of the season (even though the recent 1-10 streak) would grade C- to D-plus. Maybe not, maybe I'm going by the eye test. Seeing Colson's monster home runs was pretty impressive. Man if they wouldn't have "rushed" him ... wow there would have been so little to crow about.
-
If not contraction, if it's too harsh, I wish the commish would at least admonish the teams that consistently lose 100 games. Unacceptable. That means our team really is on another level, like just a tad about minor league baseball.
-
And yet the Bananas packed the park twice. Sox had what, one sellout? Book more Banana ballgames, Sox!
-
It's funny how many teams would have had gawd-awful seasons (so much so they might have to fire the manager) had they not beat up on the Sox again. Once again, KC stayed in the WC race solely cause of beating up on the Sox. Cleveland owes much to the Sox for righting the ship. Even the Yankees got six automatic wins recently vs. the Sox. The timing of series vs. the Sox is important to a lot of teams who need those automatic victories to stay in the race. Pity Minnesota. Usually the Twins beat up on the Sox so badly it keeps them in contention, but not this year.
-
Nobody could complain if the Sox were contracted. Not trying to win would be the accusation that caused a harsh penalty of contraction. But no admonishment to Jerry from the commish office. All quiet. Sad the Sox aren't publicly reprimanded for such ineptitude.
-
The Sox are like Baltimore was when the O's stunk every year. You could just pencil them in for last place. The advent of advanced stats and tanking got the expert fans convinced the Sox were doing the right thing. In reality we all should just listen to Lip of this board. Sox are in it for one reason, to make money for the investors, and the product on the field certainly doesn't matter to anybody in ownership. And under Jerry's leadership, pocketbook, Sox will remain last til the new owners take over. Frankly the Sox should just book the Bananas for 10-20 games a summer and pack the place every night. This season-ending losing thing is wild. Sox are dropping a lot of games.
-
I would like to ask Lip and others: Would the Sox have been a fantastic organization the past couple decades had they simply kept Dombroski and hired Leyland? All this change and excellence was in our grasp. And also kept Harry Caray. Dombroski/Leyland woulda meant more division titles than you could count.

Losing 10 of 11 is insane. What does Schriff say about it now. On the highlights he'll scream stuff like 'this team doesn't quit.' And gush about the young nucleus. Colson is so good he should do for us what Witt did for KC. One playoff appearance in 2 years. Again, with 'some' talent, this team should be fined and/or kicked out of baseball if it doesn't attempt to improve enough to contend next season. We have good catchers, good center fielder, good SS, good 2B. We are strong up the middle. We need a real power bat. And we need a lot of pitching help. But to not even try to build on our core is inexcusable. All it would take is money.

Don't the Blackhawks sell out every game still? Hockey actually is exciting in person and Chicagoans know that. I assume prices are now outrageous. Wat's parking at a Hawks game now? 50 prolly? Hockey sucks on TV but is a blast in person.
-
Holy bleep. We've lost 10 of 11? That used to be monumental in Sox-land. Now nobody even notices. How the hell has our improved club lost 10 of 11?
-
Don't forget the Blackhawks won 3 titles in six years not too long ago. Corey Crawford was sensational. It's despicable what happened to Lloyd Pettit's Blackhawks. The Bulls aside from the Jordan years (which were wonderful) define mediocrity to badness. The Bears have been so bad it's almost like they belong in the CFL not NFL. Sox used to be a pretty good franchise. Even in bad years they contended a while and weren't out of it in early May. The Cubs are hexed by their beloved stadium which Ozzie cracks me up when he rips Wrigley. The Cubs seem content to play .460 ball in that relic of a park although this year they are exceptional somehow. They have as good a chance as anybody to get hot in the postseason and make the WS.
-
I was gonna say 58-100 is not lookin' good on the resume. Sure the Sox have more good players in the lineup now than last year but I think most of us agree 100 losses are likely again next season because of the bullpen and the fact none of the current starters can go more than 4 or 5 innings. Also as much as I like Tauchman and Beni, they combine with Robert as prolly one of the worst outfields hitting wise in baseball. Sox appeared competitive and exciting this year under Getz however the facts scream "they lost 100 games." We should do a poll on the board "Is Getz doing a good job?" I would think 95 out of 100 votes would say "no" even tho I do declare the team seems better than a year ago.

2025 MLB season...catch-all for non-Sox, non AL-Central
greg775 replied to caulfield12's topic in The Diamond Club
I think you need to seek a second opinion. My post didn't go into politics at all. It's an interesting topic though. Can a ballplayer take off to attend a friend's funeral when asked by the wife to attend? The Cubs have already clinched the wildcard and this is life and death in the year 2025. A friend of the player died and he went to the funeral rather than play in the Sunday game. One could take the Cub at his word that he attended for his friend and friend's wife, not for political gain. I didn't offer my opinion because then I'd be breaking board rules getting political. Most of the 'fights' on this board are people disagreeing with opinions different from their own. My momma used to tell me the world would be a dull place if everybody agreed with each other all the time. ... Now if other posts in the past are any indication you will blast me and get in the last word cause I know better than to push it and get put on vacation again and this will be my last comment on the matter. -
2025 MLB season...catch-all for non-Sox, non AL-Central
greg775 replied to caulfield12's topic in The Diamond Club
I see the Cubs Matt Shaw got ripped by the Mets announcers for attending Kirk's funeral instead of playing Sunday for the Cubs. Kirk's wife personally asked him to attend the funeral. I'd like to comment but I won't cause I'd be getting political. I will just say the Mets announcers don't need to opine about a guy on the other team going to a funeral. I guess a lot of Cub fans are upset at Shaw too. Social media onslaught.
