  1. Good line, but please stop teasing me about being a Cub fan. I swear on a stack of Bibles and I am a practicing Mass-goer that I am not a Cub fan and in fact didn't even follow them at all in this year's playoffs. Now I was a Sox and Cub fan as a 10-11 year old when gramps took me to some Cub games as I was a kid who loved baseball and he was our sole relative except for my rich uncle who liked the Cubs. So he needed someone to go with. Not sure why he stopped taking me to games after one or two summers. Maybe he thought my dad would get mad at indoctrinating Cubs. I am a true Sox fan. My story is good but it will take a while to explain and it'd probably bore people in a day and age of quick hot takes and people yawning at story telling. Go Bro Rice! We should take an offseason poll in a day and age where all we hear about are the polls in politics: Is greg a Cub fan?
  2. I haven't been able to watch as many games this year. Saw some early. So I ask ... how is our quarterback? Does he run well? Throw great? What's the key to us putting up all these points? What's up with the defense? Hard hitters? Size? Pass rushers or d-backs cover well. If we ever are to lose what will be our downfall? Go Rice.
  3. Sometime I'll tell a story here about my dad, a lifelong Sox fan, and how I prevented a travesty at his viewing/funeral. Rest in peace to a tru Sox fan.
  4. Sweet ... what is your son's mood? Does he act as if the team is hungry? Are u concerned about our next foe? What is team morale like? are we healthy?
  5. I do know we clobbered Rita, but never underestimate what happens in rematches in the playoffs (except when you play Mt. Carmel twice, they'll rout a team both times). Little worried about St. Chuck. They are ranked 10th in Sun Times. Glad the game is at Rice. We need a big loud crowd. Being on a Saturday it'll probably be a smallish crowd. Hope the guys stay focused and keep it rolling.
  6. Nice win today. We pounded Jacobs. This isn't hyperbole and not meant to jinx Rice but we've never had a team potentially this good. It's destroying its first two playoff foes. Can we beat Carmel and/or St. Charles North? Are they any good? Good records? A Rita-Rice final would be insane. I would probably prefer not playing them. We've played them so often they won't be afraid of us. I love the makeup of this Rice team with the major college guys in the correct positions to best influence victories. The weather is turning and mabe we're built for the cold with our linemen. Please give me any info about Rice's chances next week.
  7. Funny how we consider age 26-29 a hitters prime now. Anything after 30, yawn. Anything under 26 and he's been rushed. I think we need a do over and get rid of all analytics. Can u imaging Pete Rose. nowadays? He'd have to lift and pull to make a roster. All those incredible oppo field hits and hustle on the basepaths would mean little to nothing.
  8. Not to be a jerk but how do some of us remain Sox fans? Pathetic product with the only highlights the past few years the play of Colson and Robert maybe his first year. The staff of so many great names (Mark, Hoyt, Bobby, Peters, Horlen, Wilhelm, Sale, Wood, Garland, Pierce, Lyons, Walsh, Faber, Thiggy, McDowell, Cease de resistance, need I go on?) turns to a staff where I can't name one starter (I forget the name of the flamethrower who has looked good at times). ... And finally if u do watch a game, u have to suffer with poor Schiff and Gordo (don't like his accent sadly; love Stoney) or Stoney. Ah for the days of the aforementioned pitchers and Harry. Our team certainly has been at its low ebb with Schiff at the mike. I know $$ rules all but how can Stoney keep signing to broadcast this wretched club.
  9. Hard to believe Schiff is entering year 3 with the Sox. Team has been so pathetic during his tenure.
  10. The team had to do this. Again ... tanking is one thing but not picking up Robert's option would have been yet another slap in the face to Sox fans who have spent a ton of money during the tank job for bad baseball (but delicious corned beef, roast beef sandwiches; pizza; shakes), overpriced beer and pop. Robert is one guy who could play for just about any team, along with our new SS phenom.
  11. Any way we need to worry about Jacobs? Long bus ride might annoy our guys.
  12. Nice win. I can't believe even high schools are hard to find on stream nowadays. You'd think they'd let BR TV just do the games. They'd get max of 200 people watching. But no ... it's on some weird stream u gotta pay for. How bout sell some ads and make it free for high school for gosh sakes.
  13. I can't even name one Bull. Why are we good suddently? What's the starting lineup?
  14. The Bulls would be a good test of this. They are 4-0. Are people freaking out in joy? Bulls have stunk a long time. See if they start dominating headlines like OKC did.
  15. Three years is a long time to enter contention. Geez. Watching the playoffs and series it reiterates the idea of a good bullpen now are guys that throw blazing fastballs that hitters foul off then finally whiff on (or the rare offspeed pitch). Do the Sox have a plethora of minor league young arms right now that fit that bill? Anyhow saying 3 years is suggesting we stink and will stink.
  16. Some of those downstate teams scare me. Hopefully Rice has a big crowd and the players roll over Rockford and get some momentum for a long run. Hope the kids want it. That can be key after a long season. I haven't been able to watch as many games this year but I sure was impressed and convinced after watching those early games. Coach Q must be a genius. I wonder if he's happy on the south side and will stick around. As a six seed the kids should have a chip on their shoulder. Only one loss and nobody can beat the team the Crusaders lost to.
  17. Hopefully we win big and get back on track. The St. Iggy score scares me. Rice hadn't had a 'letdown' type game all season. Even the one loss was close where we messed up some chances. Congrats to the kids. Best team in Rice history (through regular season). Never has Rice had so many college recruits and game breakers. Hope the QB is healthy, the lines are healthy and the RBs and receivers and D backs are ready.
  18. How did we only beat St. Iggy by eight? Is St. Iggy good? Wat you think of the playoff opener and why were we just a six seed? That's absurd. Congrats on your son getting the pic.
  19. I guess we could lose. Rita would be a bad loss after clobbering them earlier. You mention some name schools but Rice is special this year. I will risk hyperbole and say if we don't win it all this year we never will. It's that good a Rice team.
  20. Good article. In this day and age especially where college and pro football teams are firing guys before the halfway part of seasons for gosh sake, Jerry deserves all the scorn and more that he gets. He owns the team so he can't get fired but if ever a guy deserved to be fired it's Jerry for a zillion reasons. Taking the Bulls out of the equation what he's done to the Sox after the momentum of 2005 is downright sad. One title is fine but in this day and age one glorious moment is not near enough especially when he's in charge of this 100 loss machine.
  21. Sadly the Sox have 90 percent lost greg. I have absolutely no interest in our club and that's not because of a fan deficiency in me. I've worshiped this team in a non religious sense from the time I was a mere Little Leaguer to now. My teachers told me if one person feels one way, trust there are others. Jerry should be ashamed there have to be thousands of former die hards now not caring one bit if we improve a pitching staff in which I cannot name more than one pitcher. You all soon in all likelihood won't have to put up with any greg posts anymore if the Sox completely finish off my Sox lack of interest. So sad. Thanks Jerry. Year after year of trash baseball does this to a diehard.
  22. Holy bleep we are good this year. Folks this is the best team in BR history. I don't care what happens the rest of the way. Q has the best team in Rice history. Can we complete the deal? Teams that could knock us off in playoffs, the only ones: Mount Carmel, Fenwick, East St. Louis, Loyola. That's it. I have no idea which teams are in our classification. St. Laurence has a good coach, not sure of their record, but we mauled them tonight. If Rice does win it all this team will go down as legend on the south side even tho we lost to MC.
  23. I can't believe it's offseason already ... what does a player like Colson do now? Take 2 months off? Then start running and hitting in cage? Or do they keep working starting now? He had that home run stroke going for the Sox. Must be scary to take a lot of time off then try to reclaim the magic during spring training.
  24. It begs the question: Which high school program is best over the last 40 years: Is it ESL, Mt. Carmel or Loyola? Those would appear to be the contenders. I love the CCL but it might be ESL.
