Fair enough, but the discussion level is raised when we can discuss why it’s possible to be optimistic with balancing that versus pessimism in the same post. It’s better to read that than this player or this executive sucks over and over again.

What if additional spending is not authorized and this is the team they have to compete with? What if Romy and Frazier man the positions you mention and succeed at them for the rest of the year? Lets worry about next year in the offseason.

Good take. I also think injuries have hurt this team and that a rebuild isn’t what they need. More talent in the minors? Absolutely, but not at the expense of the major league roster talent. The question I think ST posters need to ask themselves is, on May 23, or by the end of the month, are you in, or are you out? As in, will they contend for the division and you believe they can do it, or I want this team to burn, they have no chance and I have no hope. I’m in the optimistic camp they can do this camp despite all of their faults and flaws. A little optimistic realism never hurt anyone and is a hell of a lot better than the negativity displayed by many on this board.

When I saw Clevinger was hurt, my mind went to Scholtens and Shaw as possibilities for a bullpen game. If Shaw has anything left, they might as well use him as an opener. Otherwise I guess they need to call up Scholtens.

It’s possible. But do we know that it will happen yet? No. It’s possible that they won’t and it’s possible they will. I’d rather let the season play out before they start trading away people and come back with suspects.

Great memory. In this weak division where they will eventually get Hendriks and Jimenez back and they have gotten hot as of late with the bats, it is possible to come back. It might just be a spark that doesn’t last, but they could also go on a tear and get back to winning. That hole they dug at the beginning of the year left me wondering what it would have been like if they didn’t have all of the injuries to start this year even with the awful pitching performances they had in April.

Sadly, I still think they have a shot in a weak AL Central.

I always thought they needed to spend higher draft picks on starting pitchers. What is the downside in that, they either get injured or fail and go to the bullpen?

Why did they have to deal those picks and players to Orlando and pick up Vucevic when they did?

It is fair to say a sell off is coming and it is fair that fans don’t trust either of them for those reasons. For those who are pissed at JR or Hahn, the question still remains, what will you do to pare back spending on the team? The second question is with a sell off, what do fans expect from the sell off and next season?
