QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jun 29, 2008 -> 09:19 PM) If the game got out of reach. Get him some innings. True, but you need all of the runs you can get against the Cubs and I don't want it to be that convenient for them to get back in the game. But if this wasn't the Cubs, I'd be fine with that.

Cubs @ Sox - Game 3, 7:05 PM, 06/29, ESPN
QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 29, 2008 -> 08:14 PM) Looks like we got a break...I like this first base ump! Yeah, they get a break. I like these umpires because they don't take s*** and stick with their calls. Granted both calls were incorrect, they shouldn't take the s*** they got from Trammell or Piniella. I'm glad the home plate umpire threw him out. Also, on a play at first like that, there is no way, unless you have the perfect angle, the perfect eyesight, and perfect hearing, you absolutely cannot make that call.

QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jun 29, 2008 -> 06:39 PM) Haha Lou. No way should he have been thrown out there. I hate the Cubs, but I love Lou. You do not come out of the dugout to argue balls and strikes even if you are right. Never, good call by that Home plate umpire, I would have said "eat s*** and take the night off, fat f***."

White Sox @ Dodgers, 2:10 CSN
QUOTE (lostfan @ Jun 26, 2008 -> 03:56 PM) The NFL hasn't been the same since the Tuck Rule, then there was the 2005 Ref Bowl debacle and such. There are good ref crews like Hochuli but there are some awful ones too that make some bizarre calls, and only this year did they finally put in some rules to give the defense some leeway because the bias in favor of offense was ridiculous. Fair enough, I thought you were talking about holding calls and other calls from the line, because those are well deserved. I think the rule about late hits on Quarterbacks is a bit rediculous, but for the most part, I think the NFL has solid officiating.

White Sox @ Dodgers, 2:10 CSN
QUOTE (lostfan @ Jun 26, 2008 -> 04:34 PM) This also applies to the NFL. Are you serious? I happen to think the NFL has better officiating than the MLB. Have you ever seen Mike Carey officiate in a football game? He's great!

White Sox @ Dodgers, 2:10 CSN
QUOTE (Nokona @ Jun 26, 2008 -> 04:23 PM) Since about 04 there has been just a steady decline in everything having to do with officiating. I no longer know where the strikezone is anymore. The MLB should shoot themselves in the foot for the "steady decline" of Umpires. They made several good ones retire and they also "cut" some who were respected umpires. The strike zone is letters to knees and the ball should be just off the plate for the outside corner. I've noticed that the majority of the umpires do not call the inside corner anymore due to b****ing by several batters. (See last weekend's game with the home plate umpire on Friday---he consistently called balls for the inside corner.)

Our excuse for this loss
QUOTE (quickman @ Jun 20, 2008 -> 10:49 PM) actually I was more upset with the punchout of AJ's check swing in the ninth. not even close. IIRC that pitch was close to the zone so either way it wasn't just the swing that could have called him out. Either way, the Sox are playing like s*** right now and I can't watch this garbage. Hopefully Buehrle has a good outing tomorrow night. I do have one question though, what are the dimensions at Wrigley compared to USCF?

Dontrelle Willis sent to A-ball today

Benson waived
QUOTE (SoxFan101 @ Jun 10, 2008 -> 02:52 PM) Id love taking a chance on Kevin Jones or bring back the A-Train. It wouldn't be too farfetched for the A-Train to come back to town. Or would it? :unsure

Benson waived
Here's a list of guys that are free agent running backs, not sure if they should be considered but here's what I uncovered: Kevin Jones Shaun Alexander Mike Anderson Ron Dayne Samkon Gado Anthony Thomas I actually think the Bears will not bring in anyone and keep all of the running backs they have on the roster. Clearly they do not want to cut Adrian Peterson, a special teams standout, Garrett Wolfe, of whom I'm sure they want to see what he can do for them, and of course Forte, who I believe can be something special if he splits time with Peterson early on and maybe he can become the back of the Bears later on this year.

6/9 - Sox vs. MIN, 1:05 CT, CSN,
Come on Toby, its up to you man. Whack one that's down the middle of the plate. Here's just what I think of the pitches: First one is a ball. Second is strike one even if it was called. Third is a ball. Fourth is questionable because the bat hit the ball. I'd say it is in there. Fifth is a ball. Sixth is a strike called if he doesn't hit it. Seventh is a strike called if it wasn't fouled off. Out! EDIT: Did anyone see the security guard near the twins dugout? I remember that guy, he's the jerk.

6/9 - Sox vs. MIN, 1:05 CT, CSN,
This game has got to pick up the pace a bit, the rain is coming in here where I'm at and it wouldn't surprise me if it just pours on the field. We've got the lead however, so I don't really care if it finishes.

Bulls to hire Vinny Del Negro as coach
QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Jun 9, 2008 -> 01:50 PM) This would have been the worst possible scenario. Jordan is no coach, nor is he a person who can sit behind a desk. He either wants to play, or be a playboy. I agree that the way the dynasty was broken up was terrible, but offering all of the ex players positions isnt the answer. Fair enough, I just think that some sort of position should have been given to the greatest player who ever lived. That's all.

QUOTE (quickman @ Jun 9, 2008 -> 03:18 PM) Ross being a good guy is very different than being right. i think your a good guy, your just a bit wrong on this subject. Fair enough. But I think you're wrong about a specific player being a "piece of s***." (says with a laugh)

6/9 - Sox vs. MIN, 1:05 CT, CSN,
QUOTE (29andPoplar @ Jun 9, 2008 -> 03:04 PM) Ahhh, he's a good kid. He has umped for a long time for such a young guy, but yeah, it's not a criticism of the entire profession. If they're inconsistent, they're inconsistent. It is what it is. If this is your honest opinion of me, thanks. I've umpired for about 10 years now and I know how things are in the game of baseball. I've thrown out several people but what I've learned is that its about the game and you can't let the tools behind the dugouts or even in the dugouts get to you. I guess the way people phrase their criticism towards umpires makes it sound like a criticism of the entire profession. The real heart of the matter is exactly what is bolded. It is what it is.

6/9 - Sox vs. MIN, 1:05 CT, CSN,
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 9, 2008 -> 03:03 PM) You shouldnt criticize the broadcasters then, they have accomplished alot and put alot of work into what they do as well. This ump has been inconsistent and people will point it out. Thats what you get when you choose not to play, but officiate. When he sees the report on his strike zone today, he should adjust and learn from it. Don't give me that. "I couldn't see well enough to play when I was a boy, so they gave me a special job - they made me an umpire." Thanks President Truman.

6/9 - Sox vs. MIN, 1:05 CT, CSN,
QUOTE (29andPoplar @ Jun 9, 2008 -> 03:02 PM) I agree Harrelson takes it too far sometimes but DJ doesn't whine about the umps much, if at all. Well, Hawk complains and then he rubs off his b****ing off on DJ, which then makes DJ complain, that's all.

6/9 - Sox vs. MIN, 1:05 CT, CSN,
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 9, 2008 -> 02:58 PM) I have. And this umpire is still brutal. Since you haven't played major league baseball, should we just tell you to never criticize anything a player does? Okay, so he's missed a few calls. The strikes are close and that play at the plate we were lucky to have. As far as criticizing players, I don't do that. They got to the bigs and have accomplished some great feats on the field so I won't ever heckle a ball player.

6/9 - Sox vs. MIN, 1:05 CT, CSN,
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 9, 2008 -> 02:56 PM) Aren't you the same guy who said emails don't make a difference when people were sending the head of umpires emails? Yes, but this is about two broadcasters b****ing. I just needed to tell them how much they've been whining as of late, or for better measure, for this whole season.

QUOTE (SoxFan101 @ Jun 9, 2008 -> 02:05 PM) This ump today has been brutal. I hope he gets shown a video of all the obvious calls he missed and this game isnt even halfway over. How about you put on the pads and helmet, go behind that plate and umpire?
