2023-24 NFL Season Thread

It can be a combination of poor coaching and a flawed player. Unfortunately, it seems like the Bears may have both. -

NFL defenses also adjust. Green Bay and Tampa both did excellent jobs on not breaking containment. Sure, the Bears should run Fields a bit more. However, not sure what the plan for Bears will be when defenses get better at taking that away. At some point, the dude needs to get better at dropping back and throwing the ball downfield. JF is now in year 3. How does he improve as a pocket passer if he isn't getting reps in? I guess people are saying that the Bears totally need to scrap their offense and run an offense full of RPOs, misdirection, and bootlegs. Basically a college style offense in the NFL since Fields isn't making progress throwing the football. I'm sure that is going to work out great. The NFL is full of Super Bowl teams where the QB had more rushing yards than passing yards lol. -

No is he not. The Bears are trying to work on his ability to throw in the pocket. In order to win a Super Bowl, you need a qb who is an elite pocket passer and who can get the ball out quickly. Justin Fields biggest strength are his legs. If the Bears design an offense around his legs, he will be running or throwing out of the pocket at least 75% of the time. That is not a recipe for sustained success in the NFL. -

Again, Fields has no future if he can't develop as a pocket passer. How many running quarterbacks win championships? Go ahead and run the offense like Fields is Cam Newton. Newton never won a ring and is out of football. Dude was always hurt too. Justin Fields is gonna get killed if the Bears treat him like he is Cam Newton. Successful franchises do not change offenses all the time and every offseason. Fields has to develop into a better pocket passer and learn how to read defenses and get the ball out quicker. An offense designed around him would have him running the ball 50% of the time. That would be fun to watch, but it will also get Fields killed and won't lead to any Super Bowls. -

Maybe Fields should be converted to a gadget guy ala Taysom Hill? Fields has no future in the NFL as a quarterback if he can't devlop into a legit pocket passer. -

Super Bowls are not won based on public perception. If Poles and company still have no idea on whether or not JF is a franchise quarterback, then how can anyone trust them to identify QB talent down the road? -

100%. The Bears have to utilize his legs. The offense scares no one if Fields isn't a threat to run. -
You weren't alone on that front. This franchise flushed multiple seasons down the toilet and the prize at the end of the rainbow was one division crown and a total ass kicking in the playoffs. I hope to never see another tank job on the South Side of Chicago for the rest of my days.

This team is going to lose 90 plus games...
LittleHurtCG replied to LittleHurtCG's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I did not bet on 100 losses. It takes a rare form of suck to lose 100 plus games. Didn't think Sox would be that level of suck considering the division they play in. Ha. A visionary I am not. However, I work with failing comapnies all the time and saw so many similarities between some of the comapnies I've worked with and the White Sox. I could tell from the first week in that Pedro was in way way over his head. Also, Rick Hahn was still around back then talking his lawyer mumbo jumbo while guys like Oscar Colas were playing every day when they weren't close to ready and cooked veterans like Andrus and Grandal were still on the roster. I sincerely hope that some organization is dumb enoough to give Rick Hahn another GM job. The odds of that are extremely low , but I will be fading that club so hard with big $$$ if that clown is able to bamboozle his way into another GM job. Snark is to be expected. Nobody wanted to hear the truth. This organization is screwed six ways from Sunday and it has been apparent to some of us for quite some time. -
Sox send Eder to pitching camp in Arizona
LittleHurtCG replied to Buehrle>Wood's topic in FutureSox Board
Eder turns 25 in October. Next year is pretty much a make it or break it year for him. Hated the trade the minute it was made. Hate it even more now. -
Seems like the Sox should have gotten a lot more than just Eder for Burger. Eder sounds like a total reclamation project with a high probability of never making the big leagues. Jake Burger is producing in real time right now and is a cheap cost controlled player.
-
There are people out there who honestly think the Burger trade was a good one? This Eder dude can't get anyone out in AA, turns 25 next month, and is still years away from the Show. Trading away Burger for this guy was a massive blunder.
-
Not incredible at all. This is the White Sox way. In their warped minds everyone in the organization is doing a good job. Those of us that live in reality take a look at the standings and see a different picture. This franchise is beyond f&cked.
-
You should be. Dude turns 25 in October and can't get anyone out in AA. He's looking more and more like a broken prospect with every passing day.

After an exhaustive search, Getz named GM/VP

Meet the new boss, same as the old boss. JR is still around to kill SOx fans hope and dreams unfortuntaely. -
Burger now up 2.5 BWar on the season with an OBP at 309. Keep improving kid!
-
Exactly. If anything the Marlins sold high on Eder. Eder can't get anyone out so far in Brimingham. What's the plan if that continues? Send a 25 year old next year to High A? This trade sucked.
-
Textbook definition of selling high.
-
Eder is a broken prospect that needs a ton of work. There is a reason the Marlins traded him away.
-
I think it will be more active than people think. Of course there won't be a big splash free agent signing like Shotei or Bellinger, but the Sox will be active. They will sign some veteran starting pitchers like Luis Severino and Steven Matz to short deals. Probably a couple position players like Ahmed Rosario and Tommy PHam as well. They also have a decent farm now as well and will likely move a few prospects.
-
Why would you tear everything down and keep Robert? You gotta move Robert if you are planning another tank job.

8/16 Game Thread: White Sox @ Cubs 7:05CT
LittleHurtCG replied to Bob Sacamano's topic in 2023 Season in Review
Did you forget Sale helped Boston win a World Series? Red Sox won that trade hands down. Moncada and Kopech are both huge busts. -
Looks like I learned something new about Rutherford today. Good for him. He needs to get that OPS above 300 soon though or his cup of cofee isn't gonna last long. I want Pedro and all the coaches gone as well. Highly unlikely that happens though as long as Hahn is GM. Sosa should be playing everyday at second and Yaz needs to go so the new kid from Houston can get some run.
-
Yeah I'm gonna have to disagree with this a bit. There are defintely folks around here in the present and past who enjoy a good tank job. The idea of winning the propsect ranking wars gets them off more than the play of the mlb team does. Exactly. Tankies love dreaming about the future and all the shiny prospects. We have already been there and done that. Yoan Moncada isn't anywhere close to the next Robinson Cano. Michael Kopech ain't the next Kerry Wood. Eloy Jimenez isn't hitting 40 plus bombs every year. All the pieces from the Adam Eaton trade are no longer with the organization. Blake Rutherford is out there selling cars or insurance somewhere. The top draft picks acquired through the tank did not turn into close to a Kris Bryant or Alec Bregman. The tank jobby failed miserably and it blows my mind that the tankies want to double down and try it again.
