Looks like Rogers/Overeem will be on a May Strikeforce card on Showtime... not really sure why they wouldn't try to get that on the April CBS card. If the point of this fight is to push Overeem to the U.S. market, well, Showtime cards do good ratings for Showtime, but overall I think they've peaked at around 600k viewers for the Gina/Cyborg fight, that's not exactly drawing the casual fan. Still kind of a question mark on what's going on with Fedor. Josh Gross of si.com tweeted that he asked Coker about Fedor and said he wouldn't say anything but "we've held up our end of the contract." Just speculation, but I wonder if the M-1 payday for the November show ended up being far less than they thought it would be and are looking for more money, especially considering that according to numerous reports the UFC offer was huge money. Who knows, I just really want to see Fedor fight somewhere on a regular basis again.

http://www.mmaweekly.com/absolutenm/templa...9&zoneid=13 BJ was all over CNN today with the Hawaii tsunami coverage. I've seen a few places that M-1 is trying to renegotiate a more favorable contract for Fedor with Strikeforce, and CBS will do the April show without him with Hendo/Shields headlining and Gegard vs. King Mo. I initially saw a few places that Hershel Walker was going to fight on it, but on the Challengers Series show last night on Showtime (FWIW don't bother catching a replay of that show) they interviewed Walker and he said nothing about April and is unsure if he'll fight MMA again. Also heard they're trying to get Melendez vs. Aoki for that show as well. It will be interesting to see what happens with Fedor's next Strikeforce fight, because I had read a few places he has a CBS only contract. Also seeing that M-1 is pulling a Mayweather as far as drug testing for an Overeem fight. Mousasi left M-1 management a few weeks ago, he still has some fights left on his Strikeforce deal, so he's not going anywhere for awhile.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Feb 27, 2010 -> 05:35 PM) If he can play third, that'd be even better. He played a great 2B last year. He hasn't been a great SS for a while. If Freese doesn't show up, he can possibly take over 3rd for the whole season. Agreed, I wasn't sure of his ability to play 3b, so I was just focusing on what a plus he can potentially be in the line-up, but yeah, if he can play a solid 3rd or if Freese comes up solid, they have a very good team. The only thing that would worry me as a Cards fan is how healthy Carpenter and/or Wainwright (sp?) will stay. Who is closing for them, I've completely drawing a blank?

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Feb 27, 2010 -> 05:43 PM) Didn't Lopez fire Boras? That one didn't turn out too well, kind of like the Orlando Hudson situation last year...although O-Dog got a decent deal in the end, but nothing like first speculated. As far as Greene goes, I'm pretty sure Zach Greinke had the same thing, at least, that's what they called it originally, "social anxiety disorder." I don't have any idea what level Greene has of it, but in college we watched a documentary about people with it and the high levels can be absolutely crippling.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Feb 27, 2010 -> 05:31 PM) It would have been nice to grab him for that money. I'd rather have him than Omar Vizquel or Mark Kotsay. wow, if that's all they got him for then the Cards got a steal. DeRosa had that gimpy wrist last year and didn't produce a ton with the cards, if Lopez can do anything that's a tremendous bat to add to that line-up
-
Si.com is saying it's close, but earlier I saw MLBN say it was done... Felipe Lopez to the Cards

Looks like Cro Cop vs. Pat Barry and Ben Rothwell vs. Gilbert Yvel, both at 115.

QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Feb 25, 2010 -> 11:28 PM) Sometimes I wonder if they actually have meetings dedicated to what players/teams they should worship each season to the exclusion of all logic. I think they probably don't, it's probably a virus that travels through ESPN, but they sure act like it's an orchestration. it has to be a network decision, Stephan Curry was jammed down throats last year (although he is a better pro prospect than Tebow ever was or ever will be)

ha, Ozzie sent Dr. Drew a tweet saying he was a fan of his!

QUOTE (zenryan @ Feb 21, 2010 -> 04:02 PM) I think Cain should fight the winner of Dos Santos/Gonzaga for a title elimination bout. I'd assume the winner of Carwin/Mir gets Lesnar, especially if Mir wins. Just hope Lesnar doesnt have much ring rust for that title bout. Plan right now is to have Lesnar fight the winner of Carwin/Mir unless that winner gets injured to the point where he would have to take a few months off, then Cain will fight Lesnar. Personally I think the UFC is smart in giving Lesnar a tough match right away because he is such an immense draw and coming off a real bad health situation that they can easily spin a loss to the point where he loses little drawing power and a win makes him look even more like superman. Rumor is they're going to have the Cro Cop/Rothwell match pretty quickly since Mirko didn't get pushed much and Rothwell is basically still in good shape and just got sick at the wrong time. Also, we should see Wand/Akiyama soon, maybe on the Montreal card. Strikeforce is getting a little murky right now. Basically M-1 announced today that the Fedor/Werdum match will be in May, not April, presumably still on CBS. Now, I'm not sure if they're going to run a Showtime card in April with the Hendo/Shileds match or track it with the CBS card. Also seeing stuff that Overeem is going to roll the dice on a U.S. drug test and fight Rogers on the May card for the title. (yes, Brett Rogers who lost to Fedor in Nov., why they wouldn't have Bigfoot fight Overeem is beyond me). Let's make this more complicated for Strikeforce... Fedor signed a one year/ 3 fight deal with Strikeforce in about August of last year, so if he beats Werdum (which, as much much respect I have for Werdum, I would bet a sizable amount Fedor wins) he has 1 fight and roughly 2 1/2 months left on his Strikeforce contract AND 1 fight left on his M-1 contract. So, basically M-1 did an awesome job of putting Fedor in a great position, basically they can go to Strikeforce, ask for whatever the hell they want and if Strikeforce says no, they'll sit him out until August, have him fight a can in DREAM and he is complete free agent and maybe with the 50% promotion M-1 contract it clears the last hurdles for the UFC. I understand Fedor is part owner of M-1, but that doesn't mean he could have broken his 50% contract because other partners could have sued him, Dana already said they would have let Fedor walk into the octagon with M-1 plastered all over his body, they were balking at the promotional split. Why isn't Fedor fighting Overeem in May? Well, basically M-1 has been slamming Overeem and his =cough= workout regimen =cough= and have turned down a fight with Overeem.

Trader Kenny is the GM of the White Sox and he has a whole season to wheel and deal, at this point I haven't even thought of next offseason.

QUOTE (Cali @ Feb 25, 2010 -> 01:03 PM) My usuals: SModcast - Kevin Smith and His Producer/Friend Scott Mosier, just BS'ing about anything. Probably would only recommend if you're a KS fan Adam Carolla Podcast - Though recently he hasn't had anyone interesting as a guest, and has done WAAAAAY too many "live" 'casts for my liking I Love Movies - This is always live (I've actually been to a few of them) It's stand-up Doug Benson talking about recent movies with guests, most of them stand-ups as well. I love the Adam Carolla podcast. I know there have been too many live ones, but reading between the lines it seems they kind of need to do those to keep it up and running since Donnie and Sandy didn't have a warchest like Adam did and that thing needs to start making some money. The live ones can be good, it's just hit or miss with the guests. When he had Chris Hardwick on a week or two ago it was one of the funniest 10-15 minutes he's done in awhile. I personally think they try to incorporate Teresa and Bald Bryan too much, they seemingly had better chemistry together when I would stream his LA show, this seems forced, especially if they have a guest in. The Greg Fitzsimmons podcast is good as well.

QUOTE (Brian @ Feb 23, 2010 -> 10:59 PM) NXT was kinda of interesting. Something new and fresh. Danielsen and Jericho had a real good match. Might be a good way to establish and push young talent instead of having them beat Taker at Mania. yeah, I have been off WWE programing for awhile now, but watched NXT because I'm a Danielson fan and thought the concept sounded interesting. I agree, I think it's a good way to put over new talent and was pleased that Danielson seems to be the focus. -
QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Feb 23, 2010 -> 02:47 PM) In my simplistic mind, places like the Sears Center in Hoffman Estates (oh what a DUMB idea it was to build that!) and the Rosemont Horizon (excuse me, AllState Arean) are more direct competition to the UC than a domed football stadium. I would agree, the UC will never get the mega events because they simply don't have enough seating. You may get a top touring act or two who would play one show inside of a huge retractable roof stadium instead of 2-3 at the UC, that's the direct competition I can think of.
-
I think the whole situation was botched. The state or city should have gone the extra step and put a roof on the thing, if that meant a whole new building in a different location, that would have been OK by me. A roof would have given the ability to draw extra revenue for big events. If Detroit got a Super Bowl, no doubt Chicago would have got one (although that would have been likely a one time thing), Final Fours, Wrestlemania (might seem obscure to some, but that event often sells 50k+ tickets) and other large events.

It's cool to see some stats backing up what a great job Herm and his crew do with the White Sox players. All we need to do as Sox fans is look at the debacle that happens with the Cubs to see how great it is to have Herm with the White Sox. I remember a year or two ago the Cubs trainer won some sort of award and how hard I laughed when Len and Bob had to sell it during the game. I think the one thing that amazes me is the pitching staff and their health. Some of it has to do with JR and KW making some wise choices on contracts for pitchers, but even during a season Herm seems to keep them fresh. Herm is one of the reasons I have high hopes for Peavy's Sox career. (Now I'm afraid this thread will be revived in July when all our players are struggling with horrific injuries!!!)

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Feb 20, 2010 -> 12:34 AM) Yeah, this isn't an issue right now anyways since the 2012 Olympics won't have baseball (although it's possible they'll return in 2016 IIRC.) I thought it's best chance to return was if Chicago got it because I believe the host city/country have a say in something like 2 exhibition sports.
-
here's the things with sources, unless it's KW or JR themselves, certain sources in certain areas are going to hear certain things and not hear other things, that's why even very good sources are not 100% all the time. I appreciate the posters who come on here and share what they hear and would never expect them to be right 100% of the time. I can't think of one poster on here who has consistently shared a source who I have felt is making anything up.

QUOTE (Heads22 @ Feb 19, 2010 -> 11:01 AM) I still think Torres makes the most sense as long-reliever/mop-up. I'd rather have Hudson getting his starts in at AAA. Couldn't agree more, I really want Hudson down in AAA as a starter.

QUOTE (quickman @ Feb 19, 2010 -> 10:59 AM) Ok, you may know better as you follow the board closer than I do. That said, his source may not be at liberty to say anything and this silence is consistant with the media shutting down on this topic as well. I only suspect that he has two offers and is taking the weekend to decide which one to take. It appears each is different in structure and there are many moving parts including his agent, family, Union and his personal feelings. This is not unlike any other job in life when one has mulitple opportunities that will involve moving, money and lifestyle. A couple of days to think does not reflect negatively on either side of the ledger right now. I think this is extremely realistic and I also have a gut feeling the Tigers blink and add a year or make a one year deal much higher than the White Sox deal. Earlier in this thread I said I think he signs with the Tigers for a significantly better offer than the White Sox, either in years or one year money, by the end of Friday, so I have 13 hours to be spot on from a shot in the dark, LOL!!!

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Feb 19, 2010 -> 10:12 AM) That was one of the funniest moments Ive ever had while watching the cubs. It really is a moment that sums up the Cubs.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Feb 19, 2010 -> 10:13 AM) You dont have to believe my sources. Not a big deal. No need to try and make fun of me though. yeah, I think your sources have been solid in the past, and it's not like you're on here everyday posting something claiming they're from sources.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Feb 19, 2010 -> 10:15 AM) Really? I'd rather he lead off than Pierre. I would as well, but would be OK with him batting 2nd if the Sox sign him. That way Damon's OBP can still be effective for the 3-4-5 hitters and if Pierre gets on Damon will take some pitches to give him an opportunity to steal 2nd and Damon can have an opportunity to drive him in.
