  1. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Feb 19, 2010 -> 12:43 AM) Sucks about Rothwell and a shame for Elvis. BTW, I know that there are only a handful of people that post in this thread, but doesn't anyone else think that our MMA thread belongs in the stickied topics section? Are we not good enough or something? I wonder if a petition signed by about 4 people would make any noise? Who's with me on this? I'm ok with it here and our "rogue" status. If we get stickied I fear it will prompt more non-mma fans to come in here and needlessly post such things as "Boxing derp da derp" or "human cockfighting blah blah blah" and then waste space by saying how they don't watch it.
  2. Ben Rothwell sick and out of his fight against Cro Cop on Saturday, they got a last minute replacement, an Aussie who has been fighting at 205 lately and had 2 losses in the UFC in '06. Also, the King of Rock and Rumble out as well, they just scrapped his match.
  3. QUOTE (Controlled Chaos @ Feb 18, 2010 -> 02:53 PM) What's up with Roenick and Milbury? It seems like they constatnly go at it? Is there a history there or something? I'm not sure either, I noticed it too and then Deadspin put a link up to an on air exchange about Ovechkin. I guess Milbury always takes shots at him and he and Roenick got into it.
  4. QUOTE (bmags @ Feb 18, 2010 -> 02:19 PM) Again, I find it ironic, then, that you want to trade away the talent that we'd have cheaply for 6 years in the future for a one or two year player we can't afford to re-sign. The white sox attendance depends on winning. If they don't win, people don't showup in sept. or august. We have a 100 mill payroll now. If we waste this season depending on merely bounce back years AND an unbalanced lineup, when we have 2 huge contracts on the books for years to come, it's a stupid move. We are talking about a 1 year deal to make a MUCH more balanced lineup and a MUCH better chance of overcoming injuries and getting to the playoffs with a great pitching staff. Instead you want to roll the dice with a 100 million dollar payroll on numerous gambles in your players you think can produce big, while taking huge gambles that the role players will produce AT ALL. With the lineup as is, we need everything to go right offensively to be middle of the pack. That's abhorrent for a 100 million payroll. KW could also be taking a calculated risk that the trade market will open for a player he feels is a better fit during the season and doesn't want to tie up too much money in Damon at this point. He talks to other GMs, it's a realistic scenario that he called about specific hitters and the GMs told him to wait to see how they play early in the season. Also, we're just basing our speculation on what's in the media, maybe Damon really won't take a one year deal or if he will it's for something like 9m. The Sox have shown in the past they will extend payroll, and JR has said it this off-season, if the right player is there. I like Damon as a fit for the White Sox a lot too, but maybe the White Sox don't see him as that player and think one will become available.
  5. Ted Lilly threw off flat ground, felt some knee pain and is getting a MRI on it.
  6. QUOTE (WCSox @ Feb 18, 2010 -> 11:13 AM) I agree in general, but Kenny broke that rule big-time with Rios. One could argue that Rios' contract froze Kenny out of the Damon/Abreu sweepstakes. Yeah, they do break the rule sometimes, the multi-year deal to MB and the PK deal they went an extra year or two that I think they normally would. One could also argue that with his defense taken into consideration Rios can bounce back and still be a valuable player... still overpayed? possibly yes, but while they're not a mega payroll team, the Sox still have a high enough payroll to have a few overpayed guys on it. and again, I will point to the JR quote above, if the Sox thought either was a difference maker they would have found the money.
  7. QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Feb 18, 2010 -> 10:47 AM) Vonn uses men's skiis which make her go faster. I have zero idea about skiing, so I ask this question completely seriously, why don't other women use them then? Does she have the skill to handle them why other women don't? Or do other women use them too?
  8. "If we have the opportunity to get really better, the money will be there," Reinsdorf said. "I wouldn't hesitate to take the chance if something really good comes along." That's a quote from JR from this off-season, originally posted by Chw42 JR has done nothing in the past with the White Sox for me not to believe this. Now does this mean he's going to break the bank and overspend? No, but just because many people believe that Damon is the player that fits this description doesn't mean the organization does.
  9. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Feb 16, 2010 -> 11:59 PM) Wang will thrive much better in the NL (esp. in that park) than he would in the AL. (esp. in new Yankee Stadium) Nice low risk, potential high reward for Nats. Is he planning to be ready to pitch for opening day?
  10. QUOTE (chw42 @ Feb 18, 2010 -> 10:41 AM) Either Kenny's being confident about the press conference on Sunday where we announce the deal...or we ended up swinging and missing on this. I think that's a little dire way of looking at it if they don't sign him, it's not like the Sox went head to head with money and years and he balked at the White Sox. From what I gather, at this point it seems the Sox would like to add Damon at their price. All off-season the Sox haven't gone crazy trying to get another bat in here, which I personally disagree with, but that's the plan they're going with. They've kicked the tires on a few hitters, but haven't gone crazy to get someone. This is with both JR and another exec saying that there's money to add another player. I think KW didn't see a game changer in the market this off-season and will look at the trade market where he's made many quality moves. That's one thing I really like about KW's and the White Sox payroll management. They value a player and rarely go over that value in years or money. Overspending can get out of control quickly. The Cubs have a higher payroll than the Sox and because Jim Hendry made his own markets or outbid teams for players the Cubs were basically frozen this off-season and could pretty much only switch dollar for dollar. Again, I think Damon would fit in on this team and like many others I feel the Sox are a bat short at this point, however, I don't think Damon is "chuck your game plan out the window" player. I would be a happy Sox fan if they land him, but would trust the org if they didn't value him at what he wants.
  11. QUOTE (DBAHO @ Feb 17, 2010 -> 09:50 PM) The Bulls are trying to get a future 1st and an expiring contract for TT though. Obviously they want some sort of compensation for him. Not exactly a good PR scenario non - tendering the former #2 pick in the draft. True, but if things go to plans and they have a successful offseason it really wouldn't matter.
  12. QUOTE (bmags @ Feb 17, 2010 -> 08:25 PM) Seriously, that would be brutal. But man I can't see the sox commenting and opening themselves up to this...(shiiiit, torii hunter pt. II) Yeah, but ultimately I don't mind when stuff like Torii Hunter happens. Would I like to have every good to great FA on the market for the Sox? Of course, but what I don't want is going beyond what you think a player is worth and ending up with the Cubs payroll of this year

    Court

QUOTE (G&T @ Feb 16, 2010 -> 11:10 AM) Any information I give is not legal advice, and I am not licensed in Illinois. Nevertheless, and for those who might be of more assistance, I am confused by what you are seeking. Your son pleaded guilty, was given a sentence that would only be given if he pleaded guilty, but swears that the judge said "not guilty"? I don't understand what changing the plea is going to do if in fact he was given a proper sentence. I can tell you this: changing a plea or a ruling is not easy. Generally, it requires a motion to the court and will only be granted in a few circumstances. Traffic courts might be different, however. from my experience, and I am a licensed attorney, it is different in traffic court. Usually they are granted because a person goes in there pleads to something and the SOS jacks their driving privileges. Now, there are ways to massage the system and if you get certain things changed or amended the SOS can give privileges back. So if you or an attorney files the motion and explains to the judge what happened most judges I've seen will grant it if it's in a reasonable time. Also, for small claims court it is basically the same for default judgments. Basically if you or an attorney on your behalf doesn't show up for whatever reason and a default judgment is issued, within 30 days you can file a motion to vacate and a judge will vacate the judgment.
  14. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Feb 16, 2010 -> 11:22 PM) Yeah, but A.J. is a huge cheerleader for the franchise, and if Hawk was playing with him too? How many people golf with the courtihg teams' broadcaster? Especially, a broadcaster with a long history for the team in question I imagine stuff like this happens a lot, it's just the situation that's bringing it out. I think all their offseason homes are in the same area. At this point I would love if Damon signed with the Sox, I think he can add a lot, and as I said earlier, I think the longer it goes the Sox chances increase because the market is coming back to their offer, I just see him ending up with the Tigers. KW hasn't moved on another bat all offseason, and I don't think Damon is the guy he was/is sitting around waiting for. At this point I think he wants to keep flexibility and trade for a bat during the season. Weren't JR and Randy Johnson neighbors and got along well, but Randy still didn't want much to do with the White Sox.
  15. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Feb 16, 2010 -> 11:15 PM) I'm going to be eaten alive for this: Swish. He's one of my favorite ball players, i love his personality, i love his approach to the game, i thought he was railroaded out of town by Ozzie, we got nothing back for him. and one year does not a bad player make. well, I'll get attacked with you on this, because if we're not talking contracts than him and Javy would be at the top of my list too, also agree with Carlos back as a DH
  16. I don't think the golf thing has much to do with anything. AJ and Damon have known each other for a long time I believe they went to the same HS and Hawk has said numerous times he saw both play in HS.
  17. http://www.f4wonline.com/content/view/12337/ The official cast and mentors were announced tonight on ECW for the reality show that begins next week: Chris Jericho as the mentor for Wade Barrett Matt Hardy as the mentor for Justin Gabriel (who was Justin Angel in FCW, the current FCW champion) MVP as the mentor for Skip Sheffield Carlito as the mentor for Michael Tarver Miz as the mentor for Daniel Bryan (Bryan Danielson) and there is humor in that Christian as the mentor for Heath Slater C.M. Punk as the mentor for Darren Young (longtime Northeast indie wrestler Fred Sampson) R-Truth as the mentor for David Otungs (Jennifer Hudson's fiance) Now I am exhausted so there is a great chance I am just missing something, but no Lo-Ki here. Not his new ring name and his real name is Brandon Silvestry... Also, Miz as Daniel Bryan's mentor? I really hope this show isn't a shoot. Danielson is a veteran of the indie scene, a great in ring wrestler and was trained by HBK, I have no idea how a guy who got his job because he was on the Real World and tries really hard could mentor him.
  18. QUOTE (longshot7 @ Feb 16, 2010 -> 05:56 PM) here's the list if no one's seen it yet: FCW Champion: Justin Angel Daniel Bryan Kaval Skip Sheffield Joe Hennig Brett Dibiase Darren Young Heath Slater Michael Tarver That's what I saw, and for the record, Kaval is Lo-Ki and Daniel Bryan is Bryan Danielson
  19. QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Feb 16, 2010 -> 06:09 PM) Damon is not gonna sign with the Sox. Sorry. However, Kenny is not comfortable with this offense and he will be watching the spring and the part of the season closely. He and JR didn't take on these contracts to finish 2nd. Here's my general feeling on the White Sox offseason. KW made his two major moves during the '09 season, I know some on the board want to totally discount them because they didn't happen between November and March, but I consider those "offseason" moves that were geared for the '10 season. Now, JR and another exec (bucket-of-Suck had the quote) basically came out and said the Sox have payroll flexibility to add a good player if they think it's necessary. I think KW knows they are still a bat short but with the rotation and what they have they can stick around with Det and Minny. KW didn't see a game changer available as a FA or via trade in the offseason so he will see what happens during the season and see if he can get a player he can slot in as a full time DH, ie Adam Dunn as a rent a player. That may be a little optimistic, but I see it as a realistic scenario.
  20. I think the chances are low, probably around the 15% someone mentioned earlier, however, the longer it drags out the chances inch higher, because that shows the market is coming back to where the Sox likely are, but again, I think by Friday Detroit inks him
  21. QUOTE (The Critic @ Feb 16, 2010 -> 05:08 PM) So the NXT program is going to basically be an Ultimate Fighter-style show? I don't have SyeFye, so I can't watch it, but I'm sure it'll end up online somewhere. I'm interested to see how The Fortunate Sons (Joe Hennig and Brett DiBiase) do on that show. That's what Meltzer is basically saying, kind of like the show they had on MTV. Now what is not clear to me is how much is going to be "reality" or worked (knowing full well that most "reality tv" is worked, but I mean completely worked)
  22. QUOTE (Brian @ Feb 12, 2010 -> 10:26 PM) I don't think Piper meant Pat Tanaka. He meant the big fat dude from the Bond movie. yeah, two different dudes, Sakata played Oddjob. The interview was enjoyable, Roddy always works a little. It's not like Adam thought wrestling was a shoot and Roddy said he never took a dive, he was just basically saying for 17 years he never did the J-O-B, which I have no idea if that's true or not, but it was clear that Roddy knew that Adam knew wrestling is prearranged

  24. Looks like Chael's cut wouldn't heal in time, Maia is getting the title shot
  25. well, the injury bug is still biting the UFC, Belfort out of his fight with Silva in Abu Dabi due to a shoulder injury. Meltzer thinks they will offer it to Sonnen, but he's on a 30 day medical suspension for the nasty cut and there's a question if that thing could heal well enough in a little over 2 months
