Jim Thome: South Side Lumberjack
Jim Thome: South Side Lumberjack Interview By Chris Sprow From CSR The Magazine im Thome, a left-handed lumberjack, has a way of talking that reminds you of his swing. He ambles. And he speaks slowly, with a purpose, and not with any sense of immediacy. Like at the plate. He has a slow cadence of practice swings, and his is a posture of patience. He will take pitches, and even his most violent home run cut is a long wave at the ball...MORE

White Sox Make 9 Roster Moves...
QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Mar 7, 2006 -> 03:32 PM) I thought they would give Grieve a better look. He does look like he is trying to shorten his swing. He didn't look good in the OF, but not many do in March in Arizona, and Grieve has never been a very good fielder. I think he was in solely to keep Charlotte happy. Charlotte has been terrible in the W/L department the past few years and while that may not be a big deal to Sox fans, it is a big deal to the Knights and there attendance. I don't think they ever had any plans of Grieve making the roster.

QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Mar 6, 2006 -> 10:03 PM) I'm with Steve, let's get the hair and beard going. My favorite part is when Jason talks about our left-hand bullpen tryout guys and uses the word "crap" about 5 times...he also uses "garbage" and "junk" later on. Not that it's not true, but he just kept going on, lol. I wonder if I should grow a tourney beard for my Hawkeyes. The flaw is it may be nothing but stubble by the time they are out.

QUOTE(Heads22 @ Mar 6, 2006 -> 09:42 PM) Wait til special guest Heads. You know we have the ability to do that? Our plan is to get some guests on the show as we go. We may do our 3rd show from TEP and I'm going to see if we can land an interview with one of the minor leaguers (small possibility just because I'm only going to be in TEP one of the days).

QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Mar 6, 2006 -> 09:31 PM) Gotta love listening to the smooth sounds of Jason. Honestly, this was pretty easy to listen to, good stuff. Podcast of this stuff would be clutch. We should have the podcast set up by our next show, worse case the 3rd one. At that point people will be able to subscribe to it and than auto download it to the ipod's. Plus we'll always have this version. I definately got a little long and loopy at times, but looking forward to doing more shows. Oh and when Iowa wins it all, I'm gonna slam each and every Illinois fan on this site.

Players to Vote on the Labor Agreement
If they don't agree it would be 94 or 95 million. I should add I just saw Jerry Jones on and he didn't sound very pleased. Said the players could very well reject it. That said, the figure was very close to what the players wanted. If they vote no, than it means the following year will be an uncapped year. No further negotiations would be made.

QUOTE(Felix @ Mar 6, 2006 -> 08:30 PM) Sorry, but Iowa, depending on the bracket they are in, will not make it to the sweet 16, and has no chance in hell at the elite 8. Illinois can go far if they play up to their potential, but I don't see them in the elite 8 either. I think OSU has a valid chance at Elite 8, but again, more likely will lose in the sweet 16. Defense is key and Iowa and Illiniois defend as good as any team in the country. I think Iowa goes out real quick or they stick around for a while. Illinois will be there. They are battle tested and play exceptional defense. They also have good athletes. OSU relies on that outside shot and they haven't exactly been running away with things. They go down in the sweet 16. Depending on the draw, but I think they will.

Players to Vote on the Labor Agreement
The players association will vote tomorrow on a deal that would push the cap to 110 million or so. It is expected that the players will agree to the deal.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Mar 6, 2006 -> 08:26 PM) Agree there too. Iowa, Illinois, OSU all make the sweet 16. I think one of them goes elite 8 and may make it to the final 4. My gut feeling says that team will be one of the I's. OSU will have a bad shooting night in the sweet 16 and go down.

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Mar 6, 2006 -> 08:21 PM) This Gonzaga team is going down SO FAST in the NCAA Tourney, it isn't even funny. If they're a one seed, they'll definitely be the first one seed knocked off. Gosh, I hope Marquette is in the Zags bracket. Duke won't make it past the sweet 16. Soon to be Big West Conference Tourney champ Cal State Fullerton will knock them out in the sweet 16. They are gonna be the cinderell astory of the decade. ROCK CHALK TITANS

QUOTE(illinilaw08 @ Mar 6, 2006 -> 08:19 PM) Well, bubble teams rejoice. Honestly are the Zags that weak that they need to scratch out all these games against inferior competition, or are they just playing down to their level? I guess these questions will be answered in the next couple weeks. They just want the close games so they can be more battle tested come tourney time.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Mar 6, 2006 -> 08:19 PM) We'd take them, there is 0 doubt in my mind to be honest. I want them and I want them bad. I want SIU eventually. Why, cause I think we are a better defensive team. Plus I prefer to play lower scoring teams cause I think we are better than almost any defensive oriented team in the country. However playing a team like Duke or maybe even the Zags could give us trouble. Well maybe not, I think we'd shut down most of the Zags and would actually be able to score at will. But Uconn or Nova would destroy us.
