QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Feb 15, 2006 -> 08:21 PM) Eh, it's not like they're playing tremendous basketball right now either. At home they are a completely different team.

It's Safe To Come Out Now
QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Feb 13, 2006 -> 05:33 PM) Is it okay to ask why he was banned? And if it is, why was he banned? Just curiosity, but completely understandable if it can not be disclosed. Lets just say he loved attacking other posters. That won't be tolerated. We tried to be nice and offer warnings, but they did nothing. You have to get yourself banned at this place and its not easy. But shockingly...people still find ways.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Feb 15, 2006 -> 07:56 AM) Being an owner of 3 consecutive Jeep vehicles, I will never purchase one again. I'd never buy a jeep either. They got a boatload of build issues. That said, the Wranglers have ridiculous resale value and are supposed to be very good when it comes to off-roading. Another option would be going with an old school Land Rover cause those are supposed to be very good off road vehicles. I don't know if that would be too pricy though.

Should the NCAA 3 point line be moved back?
QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Feb 15, 2006 -> 07:53 AM) I can't think of a whole lot of teams that have big guys that can hit NBA 3's. Outside of Pittsnoggle, Vukusic, and maybe McRoberts (he doesn't shoot enough to get a great feel for his range), I'm drawing a blank. Ben Allen for IU is supposed to be a pretty good shooter, but he's not one of the better players on the Hoosiers (at least not yet).

AJP on Cold Pizza soon
QUOTE(SoxPhan7 @ Feb 15, 2006 -> 07:52 AM) There was nothing interesting in the interview (wrestling and florida gators stuff) but Buster Olney did grade the sox and predict a win total. Starting pitching: A- Bullpen: B+ Lineup B+ Defense: B Wintotal: 96-98 I was really surprised (so was AJ) when he gave the starting pitching only an A-. If the sox get that I sure hope no other team gets a higher grade than that. Our Bullpen is rated too highly right now, imo.

Rob M. in CF?
QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Feb 15, 2006 -> 06:24 AM) Here's my favorite part of the article. I hope this now puts to rest the idea of Owens possibly starting in cf this year. As far as Anderson goes, it doesn't sound like anything serious. It is nice to have a guy like Mack in case something unexpected does happen. Keith...you better read this since you looked at me all odd when Kenny made that comment at Fest referring to the potential of Owens in CF Got to Cover my ass since I was yelling at everyone on this board suggesting Owens would be an option in CF.

QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Feb 15, 2006 -> 12:25 AM) I think you're missing that Freeman's biggest contribution is that he takes the ball out of Horner's hands and turns him into a Reggie Miller type 2-Guard running off screens all day. Freeman's as good as you get defensively for his size as a freshman, but he's nothing special on the offensive end. That being said, the Hawkeyes are much more explosive with him on the court. Agreed completely on his defense. Really plays strong, especially considering he's a freshman. Also good point on how it allows Horner to turn into a guy that can run off screens and get open shots. The other nice thing is that Freeman is already a solid passer. He still has to learn whats a smart shot and what isn't. THe nice thing is he seems to be improving his shot selection and I've noticed his shot has really came a long way from the start of the season. His quickness should really help him when it comes to penetrating and kicking (But that will happen as he gets older). Than we have Henderson who I absolutely love driving. That guy knows how to finish. If he could improve his outside shot he'll be a tough guard.

Sox Claim Rusty Tucker off waivers
QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Feb 14, 2006 -> 11:36 PM) That cartoon kicked ass but the idea wouldn't work. None of these lefties has the "control" ring. But they can use "wind" to control where the ball goes.

QUOTE(3E8 @ Feb 14, 2006 -> 10:13 PM) What was that cartoon where all the friends touched their rings together and used all their skills to become a more powerful entity? I'm thinking something like that could work for this group. All our powers combine to form...CAPTAIN PLANET Or with the Sox...All our Powers combine to form....CAPTAIN LOOGY

QUOTE(Jeckle2000 @ Feb 14, 2006 -> 09:56 PM) One good thing about moving to Montana... I can't see them suck because I can't get the games on TV... At least you'll be able to watch the Sox minor leaguers in Great Falls.

QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Feb 14, 2006 -> 08:26 PM) The Bulls have mastered the art of blowing games they should've won. Up 5 with 1:30 to go and can't finish them. This game was lost when Tyson fouled out. They miss veteran leadership. We have lost more games down the stretch than anyone. It hurts, but at the same time I know we aren't far off.

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Feb 14, 2006 -> 08:08 PM) I really do feel bad for Bulls fans. This team is sooo frusterating, and I dont even give a s***. They played strong. Too bad they couldn't make free throws. The team is right there. It just kills me that we have zero post presence. Any what of a post presence and our guards would be even better and the team would be downright impressive. Oh and I must say for the most part Gordon played good tonight and Hinrich turned it up big time in the 2nd half. Hinrich is such a good passer and really nifty at getting into the paint.

I just based that on expectations. I'd have zero problem with it going to him. If Michigan finds a way back I'd also look at Amaker. Note, I should say that I don't think even I would have said they'd win the big 10 cause I thought MSU would run away with it, but aside from MSU I said Iowa could be as good as anyone else in the conference. All that said...there is still a lot of basketball left. I'm just really proud of the Hawks. Its been a while since they've had this type of year. I still think back to the team with Recker and wonder what could have been had he not totally jacked up his knee. That team was good. We also almost beat Uconn when they won the tourney with Rip Hamilton in the Sweet 16 or Elite 8 (I think it was Sweet 16).

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Feb 14, 2006 -> 08:13 PM) True, but take down the "NCAA Tournament" banners, that's just basically a confession of mediocrity by the program, and you guys are better than that. Why judge...just worry about the Illini. We also have like a zillion national championship titles in wrestling and of course 5 national championships in football.

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Feb 14, 2006 -> 08:11 PM) As I said the other day, congrats to Ohio State and Iowa on their co championship. I just hope Alford gets a big extension, because he still can't coach, however that group of veterans he has on this years team has really put it together. I can't say that. Alford did a hell of a job coaching Southwest Missouri State. He obviously has had some down years in the big 10, but he's had some really good teams that were stopped by injuries (when we had Recker in here) and than it took him a while to figure things out. I think he's learned that its better to have character guys (like Horner/Brunner/etc) as opposed to pure talent guys like Pierce that are total pricks. He's done a great job getting the team prepared and I don't think there is a team in the conference that runs better plays out of timeouts and I've been watching a ton of big 10 ball this year. Plus, there is no way you aren't doing a good coaching job when your taking a team that was picked by no one (but myself) to be in the upper echelon of the big 10 (obviously there is still time left so anything can happen). Oh and did I mention he's done a very good job making sure these guys play consistently on defense. I also think Alford has learned the importance of getting your younger guys some experience so when the seniors leave they may not be quite as raw as originally expected (that said I still expect a down year next year). Although Henderson/Freeman/Thompson/Haluska isn't too shabby, they'd really have to all step up for it to turn into something better. Right now...Alford would get my vote for Big 10 coach of the year.

QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Feb 14, 2006 -> 08:01 PM) Jason, stop rushing the floor. They can rush the floor every day for all I care...cause in the end a floor rush equates to a WIN. Well most of the time (cough *Illini fans* cough). On a sidenote...you guys bash the crowd but this was as loud as I've heard Carver Hawkeye in some time (at least through TV). The school really seems to be getting behind these guys and I'm glad. We have one of the best home field advantages in football and an awesome following to road games as well (when it comes to FB) and it would be nice to see that happen with basketball as well again.

QUOTE(Nokona @ Feb 14, 2006 -> 06:37 PM) IOWA up 23-19 against MSU with Hansen at the line very entertaining gotta love the defense in this game Hell ya...we shut em down and really played good offense aside from a strecth late in the 1st half where we had some turnover problems. Didn't turn the ball over in a 13+ minute run during the 2nd half. Horner looked great from 3 and for the most part they took good shots. Hansen was a beast and the Hawks came up with a huge win. I also got to give credit to Alford as he did a really good coaching job. I loved all the different looks we gave MSU defensively and I also liked how he made sure Hansen and Brunner stayed fresh by giving Thomas more time. Freeman...man do I like how Alford is getting the kid experience in crunch time. Definately preparing this guy for a big time role next year and he could turn into one of the best Iowa has ever seen at the point position (and they've had some damn good points). I'm glad he gets to play a year with Horner whose one of the best PG's in the country.
