QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Oct 4, 2015 -> 06:05 PM) Can't lose 20 lbs in 40 days in any healthy way. Why do you have to do that? Going to Vegas next month. Never been. I've got suits/clothes that I want to wear that don't fit me like they did a few years ago. I weigh about 190 at the moment. I want to get to 170 before I leave.

Random question alert: Are boiled eggs/egg whites good for you? I need to lose 20 pounds in 40 days.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 4, 2015 -> 05:11 PM) And the Cubs go on the road to face a 98 win team with a 19 game winner in the play-in game on Wednesday. Damn, I didn't even realize had the Pirates lost today that the game would be in Chicago. Anyway, should be a really good game. Arrieta makes the Cubs the slight favorite, imo.
-
QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Oct 3, 2015 -> 03:19 PM) Arrieta was not worth 20+ wins by himself, that's absurd. If Harper doesn't win the MVP then the award is a joke. Who were the runner-ups when Verlander/Kershaw won? I'm too high to look for myself.
-
He probably won't get it. But he's the MVP, imo. Take him away from the Cubs and they're (gross) the White Sox.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Oct 2, 2015 -> 11:54 PM) I'm just numb. I got down to the newsroom after class, saw this on our TVs and then just got back to work. Nothing will change. We'll mourn. We'll talk about the heroic dead. We'll ask why the media is saying the killer's name. We'll say it was mental illness. We'll say he'd do it with anything if he couldn't get a gun. And then we'll feel better. We'll forget the heroic dead. We'll forget the killer's name. We won't do anything for mental health in this country. We'll ignore that this keeps happening, I was 16 when Columbine happened. That was my "jfk" moment. Even over 9/11. Any school shooting after Columbine is meh/whatever to me. And I hate to say that.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Sep 29, 2015 -> 06:34 PM) I'm just done with Rose. One of the biggest disappointments in my mind as an athlete ever - and I'm not talking about his getting hurt all the time. I'm talking about his decisions. Be they to sit out forever after doctor clearance to avoid injury, feuding with Jimmy Butler, talking about contracts when he never plays, refusing to recruit, or being a disgusting slob who will sleep with anything while crying about how his family comes first. I'm done. Go Bulls, but they won't go anywhere with this clown. I anxiously await his free agency. I'd do the same thing with his fame and money. I agree with everything else.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Sep 27, 2015 -> 09:59 PM) Rizzo wasn't luck, Rizzo was Hoyer pulling a fast one on the organization he had just left QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Sep 27, 2015 -> 10:02 PM) Rizzo was just trading with an old business partner, there was plenty of "luck" involved with that. But they deserve full credit for the rest of their moves. That's my point. No Theo, no Jed.
-
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Sep 27, 2015 -> 09:50 PM) The White Sox are geniuses for acquiring Quintana but the Cubs are lucky they got Arrieta. Ha. I guess Rizzo was luck, too? Getting Russell+ for a .500 pitcher was luck, too? Fowler/Montero/Coghlan? More luck, I guess.

QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 27, 2015 -> 09:27 PM) Lots of teams wanted Arrieta, who to me is the reason they are ahead of schedule. Crappy thing is he was headed to Nationals in a trade from Orioles but Orioles owner wouldn't sign off on it due to their rivalry. Yet the Cubs got him for Scott Feldman and some bum I can't even remember. Not buying it.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 27, 2015 -> 09:09 PM) Nah, so much has gone right for them that I don't think it's all Theo's magic I disagree. Theo rebuilt basically the entire FO, scouting department, etc. It's not ALL him. But the origin of their transformation begins and ends with Theo.
-
So, fathom. Do you hate the 2011 Red Sox? If not for that collapse, Theo might still be in Boston. lol.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 27, 2015 -> 08:48 PM) Pirates just giving him a false sense of security for the WC game Yeah, that's got to be it.

Bobby Valentine thinks PEDs are good for sports

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Sep 26, 2015 -> 10:54 PM) The entire country dropped what they were doing when Barry Bonds stepped to the plate, now they want to pretend like he didn't exist. C'Mon man. Exactly. I was just like the rest of the lemmings for a while. Then I just realized recently what an amazing era that was. Other than Giambi getting mvp over Frank in 2000, I got no beef with that era. Sure as hell beats a no-hitter every week. -

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Sep 26, 2015 -> 10:42 PM) You watched, and marveled Indeed. I don't care what anyone says. Late 90's/early 2000's baseball was fantastic. -
QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Sep 26, 2015 -> 10:02 AM) Why would this be exciting to you? Seeing it or not, this has been a pretty awesome season to be a Cubs fan.... Just an incredible turnaround from where they were when theo/jed took over in '11 and where they currently stand.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 24, 2015 -> 06:26 PM) (you may take note of whose posts I quoted). oh s***. yeah, you're right. let me get back into my lane.

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Sep 24, 2015 -> 02:14 PM) Ha, even when the Cubs win, they lose lmao. you're crazy. Nobody in Chicago will be paying any attention to game 1 of the hockey season with cubs playoff baseball on. lol.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 24, 2015 -> 12:27 PM) All right, I'm bumping this. Despite everything above...on September 12 the Cardinals lead was 6 games. On September 24, the Cardinals lead is 7 games. The Cardinals elimination number for knocking the Cubs out of the division is 4. The Cubs are on their way to the playoffs and about to clinch the wild card, but the Pirates lead on them has held steady and is up to 3 - the 2 teams have a 3 game series this weekend and unless the Cubs sweep or the Pirates fall apart the Cubs are likely to have to go to PNC park for the Wild Card. Dude, nobody but fathom (due to his extreme, wacked out Cubs paranoia) thought the Cubs had a chance in hell of catching the Cardinals. Cubs looked like they had a shot a few days ago of catching the Pirates. Pitt beat Kershaw last week and haven't looked back.
-
Somebody check on fathom.

QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Sep 15, 2015 -> 11:28 PM) It's boring because I was actually giving real answers without the need of giving any more evidence to support "it's in plain sight" claims. I gave 2 examples,(like do I need more?) and then I don't need to explain why losing organizations were the cause of their poor play for us, how is that proving a point? (It's called using your eyes) You also have yet to give me an example of an actual losing organization and what makes them a winner. It just seems like you're trying to sound smart with your nonsensical analogies. Case in point: "Round peg into a square hole", go ahead and keep working on that, it means a lot to you and it's just you continually avoiding the evidence. Class dismissed. Homework assignment:Research Hahn/Williams trades, signings post 2005. Yawn. Dayum. He sent you back to hs with a homework assignment.

Starling Marte should have been with the White Sox

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Sep 15, 2015 -> 11:34 AM) No he didn't. Should of isn't correct. I think it should be changed too. QUOTE (flavum @ Sep 15, 2015 -> 11:35 AM) Sorry. "Should of" isn't a thing. Uh, yeah. I understand. But really? The site owner (sorry J) has some of the worst grammar in the history of grammar. It's really not a big deal on a sports message board. But I digress. Hopefully they edit the title so all can be right in the world of the internet. -

What would the Sox all time starting rotation look like?
Jordan4life_2007 replied to ChiSoxFanMike's topic in Pale Hose Talk
No love for Wilson Alvarez? Not saying he's a White Sox great but he should be mentioned somewhere. I'll never forget his Arrieta-like domination down the stretch in '93. He also stymied one of the all-time great lineups in game 3 of the ALCS. Man, if we could've somehow won game 6 and then Wilson pitches game 7 at home. f***! nevermind. I see caulfield did mention him earlier.
