  1. Everyone is starting to realize that the WBC was a joke to begin with. I understand there's pride involved for some for playing for one's country. But for others, they're slowly starting to realize what's more important to them -helping their team get ready for the season. So who's left for the Sox? Garcia & Vazquez?
  2. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jan 6, 2006 -> 11:47 AM) I went down and saw it, it was pretty wild. Probably about 8 motorcycles, 6 police cars, and half a dozen SUVs that sandwiched in the limo. They had everything closed down bigger than life, you couldn't even cross the street to or from the CBOT, or walk anywhere East down Van Buren. I did get to see the limo from about 20ish feet away or so, but they drove directly into one of the garages to let him out of protected from everyone else. I was right in the middle of it. I had to go to the back of my building just to get inside. Last time I saw streets block off downtime it was for something I was excited about (The Rally). Now for someone who probably who doesn't even know what happens at the CBOT.

    Joke Thread

    QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jan 3, 2006 -> 10:40 AM) http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/clubhouse?team=chc That, by far, is the funniest so far. How ironic that there's a picture of Dusty on the page. Here's my entry:

  6. I had a random thought while coming in today, it's probably way out there but hey it's just an idea. According the Sun-Times: So if there is any kind of Tejada deal, maybe the Sox would just as well trade Crede and move Uribe to third. As for the Orioles, Melvin Mora's played SS in the past, plus he's eligible for free agency after the season so who knows what the their plans our for him. Just an idea.
  7. An oldie, but goodie: Five Chicago sports fans were climbing a mountain one day. Each was a fan of a different Chicago team and each proclaimed to be the most loyal of all fans to their team. As they climbed higher, they argued as to which one of them was the most loyal of all. They continued to argue all the way up the mountain, and finally as they reached the top, the Blackhawk fan hurled himself off the mountain, shouting, "This is for the Hawks!!!" as he fell to his doom. Not wanting to be outdone, the Bulls fan threw himself off the mountain, proclaiming, "This is for the greatest team of the 90's!!!" Seeing this, the Bears fan walked over and shouted, "This is for DA COACH!!!", and leapt to his death. The two remaining fans just looked at each other in stunned silence. After a minute, the Sox Fan shouted, "This is for everyone on the South Side!!!" and pushed the Cub fan off of the mountain.
  8. Happy New Year to Everyone here at Soxtalk. I know we all enjoyed 2005. Let's 2006 brings just as much joy. May it also bring joy to everyone personally as well. Hope everyone had a safe and fun New Years.
  9. Bedard? I don't see that happening. We already have enough starters as it is. Unless we flip him to another team.
  10. It was always nice to go there for a lunch break with my dad. First, Marshall Field's now this. All of these great Chicago institutions are going away.....

  12. QUOTE(drowninginflame @ Dec 28, 2005 -> 01:39 PM) I don't think Tejada is coming to the Southside, JC will get an extention. Pitching is our heart & soul and last I checked uribe's glove was pretty good. I would love to have MT but I think Kenny is going to firm up the pitching for a few years so the staff will be together for a while. I agree with your statement. I was just joking with my previous comment. If anything, KW will be subtracting payroll not adding on some more monster contract. Plus, he has Crede and Mackowiak arbitration elibigible and he probably needs more payroll room if he wants to make some moves during the season.
  13. QUOTE(robinventura23 @ Dec 28, 2005 -> 01:35 PM) Contreras/Uribe for Tejada? Sorry that should have been in green.
  14. QUOTE(JimH @ Dec 28, 2005 -> 01:34 PM) You said it better than I could have, nice job. Not sure about Tejada but I think there's another trade in the works. A player like Garland always has more value if they're signed. Contreras/Uribe for Tejada?
  15. He's probably the most down-to-earth athelete I've ever heard speak. One of the many reasons I'm proud to wear his jersey. He doesn't seem fazed by the spotlight or the money. Much like Robin.
  16. Great News!! I was in the thick of work until I got a call from my brother. I don't see us carry 6 starters the entire season. If I had a choice, I would rather keep Garland. I'm glad we are doing that. He's much younger than Contreras, as well. One must be unloaded. Our farm system needs to be refueled.
  17. Take the quiz: Which White Sox Postseason Moment Are You? Paul Konerko's Grand Slam in Game 2 You are a natural born leader. You bring your team up when it seems like they have no chance. Quizzes by myYearbook.com -- the World's Biggest Yearbook! Now it's time to see which vagina I am....
  18. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Dec 27, 2005 -> 09:09 AM) Maybe Willie wants to hit homeruns like Willie Mays Hayes in "Major League II"? "You may run like Mays, but you hit like s***"
  19. So now the question is...can we scratch Texas off the list of potential teams Garland will be traded to?
  20. -The Sox WS fleece. -Every commemerative magazine/book. (Believe It!, WS Program, etc.) It was a very nice gift from the wife. -My dad, on the other hand, cleaned up. He got a framed Ozzie jersey which the entire team signed (except for a few players) It was a gift from his office. There's even pictures of the players signing them. It was right before the parade. -He also got one of those comemerative bats, plus the frame. -Plus, a plaque with an 8 x 10 picture of the mob scene after they won it all. It also includes some dirt from the Cell and engravings of all of the scores of the post-season. They are all hanging proudly in his basement. Santa was very good to him.
  21. We always do Christmas Eve at my folks. Midnight Mass Then it's the wife's family on Christmas. Her sister's new house in Naperville.
