  2. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 27, 2008 -> 07:36 AM) I rode RAGBRAI last year, which took a northern route and went through some of those towns that were in the damage path. I recall one town along the route (and I think near where this twister was), the name of which escapes me, that had been hit by a catastrophic tornado in the 70's, then again in the 90's, and again just a few years ago. As you come into town, it's sign prould proclaims itself the town that won't die. Its full of tree stumps and trees that look like they should be really big but are cut off at about 8 feet (or less). The town sign also apoligized to riders for not having any shade for them, as they had no trees left. Anyone know the name of the town? I'm going to try to figure this out because I'm interested in seeing what town it was. If I had to take a guess I would guess Eagle Grove or Goldfield. I'll do some research into it though. Thor could be a possibility as well. Did you stay in this town for the night or just pass on through?
  3. QUOTE (Heads22 @ May 27, 2008 -> 05:57 PM) It was named an F5 through Parkersburg. I heard it was an F3 from two reports, I hope yours is right because and F3 would be rediculous.
  4. woo hoo, this will be tough to come back from.
  5. QUOTE (Heads22 @ May 26, 2008 -> 10:08 AM) What Wite said. The same tornado hit Hazleton though, which is 2 miles south of me. Do you know how far the tornado traveled? It had to have been a long distance. I've been listening to some of the elders around here talk about the Charles City tornadoes, in which the 40th anniversary just occured. They had over 10 deaths and there were actually 3 tornadoes in town at the same time.
  6. Parkersburg is about 50 miles from me, I was thinking about trying to go down there but I wouldn't be able to get anywhere close to the town because it's completely blocked off because of people like me who want to snoop, haha.
  7. Just found out some more info on the tornado. It was about a mile wide, and police are not letting anyone in, or out of the city of Parkersburg. It's about a 1000 people, and they sent the homeless to a nearby town.
  8. I was one of the morons and tried to chase this storm. I have never seen a tornado and want to. I'm from Mason City, and traveled about 30 miles southeast to a town called Marble Rock, and decided to turn around there, because it looked really bad. The tornado started by Marble Rock and I don't know if it was the same tornado that hit Parkersburg, I would guess not because Parkersburg is at least 25 miles away from Marble Rock, but I could be wrong. Anyways 5 people were killed in Parkersburg, 2 people in New Hartford, and at least 50 injured. The whole southern part of Parkersburg was leveled including the high school. The school district of Applington-Parkersburg has produded 4 or 5 NFL linemen, which is interesting. But my prayers go out to them, what a crazy evening.
  9. Dropped 3 pounds. Down to 196. That's what walking around with a weedwhacker for 7 hours, 2 hours of softball, and 2 hours of biking will do to you.
  10. I'm too young to know who these people are. I'm surpised I know what show this poll is about.

    Films Thread

I saw second Narnia movie last night. I know they're based off the books and although I've never read the books, I didn't like the ending of the movie but I thought the rest was very good. Overall, I still liked the first movie better.
  12. QUOTE (Jimbo's Drinker @ May 18, 2008 -> 05:55 PM) Late inning runs, no Thome...coincidence?? I like Thome and all, but I've always felt he's a clog in the lineup. And with the shift being effective against him, until further notice I don't expect a lot from him except the occasional homer.
  13. Tale of two games here. First 4 innings only 1 run, last 4 1/2 20 runs.
  14. I have to see this steal from Konerko. The 2004 opening day steal from him is still burned in my mind.
  15. It's worth a shot, this team is struggling and it's only a quarter into the season.
  16. Wow, I'm late on this but I've been really busy lately. I haven't seen Konerko bat 6th since maybe 2000?
  17. dang, that would've been an awesome catch.
  18. I've got a story about Jeff Clement, the guy who was just at bat for the Mariners, he's the catcher. He graduated from Marshalltown, Iowa in 2002. On July 3rd, 2002 he broke the national all time home run record held by Drew Henson in my hometown of Mason City. I was a sophomore playing for the Mason City baseball team and we were trying to get the sophomore games rescheduled at our ballpark so we could have a chance to see if he hit a home run. They estimated it over 425 feet, it's hard to know how far it would've gone since it hit the top of the 50 foot bus barn, which is 75 feet away from the right field fence, right field is 320 feet. Sure enough he did and I was at bat in Marshalltown when they announced it, so they had to stop the game and give him a couple minutes of cheers, then I tried to go opposite field and lined out to left field. That's my story, haha. The record was like 71 homers I think, I have no idea how many he ended up with. In 2001 he hit a homerun off of us that was the straightest homerun I've ever seen. I had never seen such a low line drive do that. Marshalltown won either 2 or 3 championships in a row with him. They always killed us, and we weren't a bad team either. We won over 30 games five years in a row and were ranked #1 in the state at one time for 3 years in a row.

    Bikes

2005 Cannondale R500, I spent a $1000 for it 3 years ago but I think it was well worth it. My $250 mountain bike has been getting beat up by the weather in the winter since I ride it every day. I got my mountain bike in 2006.
