It's even more important now than ever before withe the slumps of Robert and Moncada to get the extra bat like McCann into the lineup. Moncada and Robert will play no matter what and Engel could be in RF . Putting Encarnacion on the sidelines is just losing a RH bat and replacing him with another RH . We probably see Mazara the rest of the season in hopes he somehow, some way rediscovers what made him good against RH pitching. His disaster of a season and Moncada's also has really screwed up our lineup against RH's. That's the main concern so I'd rather see who is best against righties not lefties.

After the 1st hitter that went to the 3-2 count he was pumping some gas into the strike zone.
-
Do that and move Robert to 9.

I'm pretty sure some concerts for bands are being conducted like drive in movies. So something like that but Sox provide a huge screen to watch and you listen to the radio broadcast in your car if setting up audio is too big a deal. I know if I own a drive in movie theater I'd be looking for extra revenue setting it up for all Bears games and as many White Sox and Cubs playoff games as possible. Just do advance ticket sales until sold out.

I was hoping Stiever would impress in his 2nd start but he was lit up like a Christmas tree. Very impressive debut for Crochet. Have to see more for sure to deem him playoff ready.

BING BANG BONG !!!

And you totally forgot about Stiever.

Weird stuff has been happening to Colome lately with 2 outs. Jimenez had that misplay of the liner over his head when everyone got pissed when Dyson wasn't out there. Then McCann missed the popup behind the plate. Then Colome had the comebacker pop out of his glove. Luckily none of that stuff came back to bite him.

I specifically have been thinking that about Robert. I don't think he isn't getting his front foot down from his leg kick fast enough and that makes him late on a lot of fastballs. I don't have the video knowledge to compare him to himself earlier when he was hitting and now to see if theres any difference. Plenty of players have a leg kick and seem to get the front foot down just as the pitcher releases the ball. -
Wow I'm dumbfounded that none of you guys understood why Tim looked at some pitches. The game within the game . Dyson on 1st. Madrigal didnt advance Dyson so 1 out. Tim being a base stealer himself was going to take some pitches to give Dyson a chance to steal which would keep them out of the double play and put a runner in scoring position. Finally on the 4th take by Tim, Dyson stole 2nd. Tim then grounded out to the right side to advance Dyson to 3rd. Grandal walked and now you have Abreu up and he gets the infield hit to tie the game. That was everybody doing what they do best to scavenge a run. Dyson stealing, Tim playing the team game taking pitches allowing him to steal , then hitting behind the runner to advance him. Grandal walking and Abreu bringing Dyson home. Just a beautiful pure baseball sequence. Then Eloy does his thing to drive in the winning run. Just gorgeous grinding.

Did you just mix 2 Tom Petty songs together ?

More hoops to jump through in our window, Covid , playing in TX. and Ca.for the playoffs where we don't play during the season. Unfamiliarity becomes a disadvantage to a young team , new CBA/ possible strike, more teams in the playoffs.

Yes but it depends on how fast the Sox think they have a true read on him and choosing him over guys like Reylo, Cordero and Cishek, his other RHP competition for a playoff roster spot. -
Tim Anderson's Don't Come Along Often
CaliSoxFanViaSWside replied to bmags's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Right Ptatc ,Hawk is the only guy I've heard talk about it on a constant basis. That's why I loved Hawk. Some find baseball history boring especially after you hear the same stories over and over again. But if you only hear something once you forget it. You hear it a few times you might not forget it. I wonder if Hawk had any influence on Tim in that regard. It should also be pointed out that finding Right handed hitters who hit for a very high average is much harder than finding LH ones. Baseball was built for Left handers . It wasn't specifically designed to give lefties an advantage but that's how it worked out. In recent history batting champ who consistently hit for high average are lefty Boggs, Gwynn, Carew , Brett . There are some RH exceptions Molitor, Trout, Thomas, Vlad Sr. If you look at the hitters with the highest BA in baseball history its littered with lefties. Most of them born in the 1800's . -

That's a huge leap even if he gets another start where he pitches well. Even if he started and went 6 shutout innings I'd still hestitate him starting a playoff game. However I'd definitely take his command as a reliever in a playoff game then. -
Jonathan Stiever Discussion Thread

I'm still of the mind that Stiever may be an option for the bullpen in the playoffs. I know I know that's tough to fathom after 1 appearance but let's see if he gets another start or some relief appearances and find out . Cishek, Reylo, Cordero ,Detwiler, Gio G. and Rodon, who hasn't given you anything yet, should not be locks for a playoff roster spot but the taxi squad is 12 men for the playoffs so Stiever could have a spot on that too. The only thing that gives me pause is I don't know the rules about how you can bring a player from the Taxi squad onto the playoff roster. -
Sox vs Twins. 9/15 - 7:10

My friend sometimes it's best to know that you don't know everything about baseball instead of smugly sticking to your argument.. Fry has been pretty much a lefty specialist even when baseball made it harder to be that. Before yesterday he had pitched in 13 games for a total of 12.1 innings so he usually goes less than 1 inning per outing. He had also walked 6 guys in those 12.1 innings. This was his 1st appearance since coming off the injured list and he is our only left handed reliever that can be trusted unless you think Gio Gonzales or Detwiler are better options for late innings. He is extremely important especially if Bummer doesn't come back. He had already pitched more than he averaged when healthy. Another 2 outs could've been another 20 pitches if he walked another guy. You got a good job from him. You don't risk re-injury to his back by over extending him when he is so important moving forward. The big picture is way more important than another 2 outs with a 4 run lead. Bullpen pitchers have roles and he had already pitched beyond his role in that situation. -

Yep, Mazara just isnt hitting so take the speed and defense and HR robbing abilities of Engel and let it play out. -

It's great to have him back. He hadn't given up a run in 9 straight appearances before he got hurt. -

I think both are auditioning for BP roles along with Rodon for the playoffs. Yesterday 9/14 Rodon was supposed to resume throwing again. Anyone hear anything , an update, on that ? -
