  1. Yep he's doing his best making a case for himself.
  2. My answers: ! Legitimately mad ? Heck no ? Players come and go . Disappointed a little bit ? Yes. Pending free agents should always be moved. 2. Yes see last sentence of 1st answer. 3 No. Completely done ? Hardly and you make it relatively easy to say no to the question since you included a replacement doing horribly. I really don't know how anyone can answer yes to the question, If you want the Sox to compete next year surely you can't answer yes because the Sox need good performances all around for that to happen.
  3. Engels been kind of beastly since he was recalled.
  4. Imagine if you were a Yankees fan . That stuff might have value instead of being bird cage lining.
  5. If you like Mike Leake then lets go one better and try for Robbie Ray. We need a LH and Ray is younger but arent both FA's in 2021 ?
  6. Its funny how Mercedes is getting so much attention now. I made a thread about him last year in Future Sox and everyone wrote him off. Since I made the thread he's jumped 2 levels. I only made the thread because I was looking at his minor league stats and thinking this guy hits everywhere he goes and asked if anyone knew about his defense and I had to assume it sucked since he was mired in A+ at age 25.
  7. I told anyone who would listen Jay was slow as fuck and no way would he be playing CF as many suggested he would this off season
  8. Since I was at the game and 21 years old at the time I never saw the broadcast. Looking back and listening to the commentary from Caray and Piersall I realize how out of touch they were with the young people of the time and the power of FM radio. Certainly more young people were listening to WLUP-FM than WLS-AM. AM was fading and FM coming on strong. Caray trying to make sense of the call letters WLUP seems comical since he was a radio announcer for many years and should know The W means nothing except that the station was east of the Mississippi Rover so it's assigned a W while west of the Misssissippi stations started with a K. Piersall would not say that the chant was Disco Sucks which actually reflected my parents attitudes about foul language. I know my parents didn't approve of the word suck as it was used and I could never say something sucked in front of them. Simpler times I suppose when strict parents would control every aspect of their children's life but that kind of parenting was also quickly changing. Piersall said seniors and women of Harry's age would not approve and he was mostly right.
  9. Was watching camp scrimmage hi- lights. Dach has some seriously good puck handling abilities. Very loose D in scrimmages but he looked slick.
  10. It can easily be accomplished since he wants to play for the Sox and the Sox value him as a player and leader. Secondly I don't see how my posts make you want to cry. I am basically saying the same thing as Poppysox. If you can get a good return for him trade him then resign him or extend him if they can't get what they want for him.
  11. I suggested that earlier in the thread. Some kind of handshake agreement between Jose and the Sox. Since Jose wants to be here for the good years he should agree that the Sox will resign him after trading him. Since he wants to be here then how can be object to being traded if it gives the Sox another legit piece for the years he wants to be here? His agent might not like it and would prefer to field offers once Abreu becomes a FA but Jose is unique in that he doesn't seem to be money driven since his comments blew to hell any leverage in negotiations. In all honesty I don't think they trade him because the offers they get for him might not be worth it. But still the possibility of getting a nice return for him does exist even if it's not likely. If he isn't traded he might hit 40 HRs this year.
  12. The Sox don't have to make him a QO. They can let him walk without one, plus, if he accepts, which he would, then it's around $18M for 2020 which the Sox probably don't want to pay him. That's why we are seeing speculation of a 2 or 3 year extension at much lower AAV. If they don't offer him a QO then he can sign with any team including the White Sox for any offer he wants to accept. If the Sox prefer to go year to year with Jose it's probably best not to offer him a QO because when he accepts it at $18M and if he has a good year then they have to do it all over again the next season probably at around $19M . It's better to not offer one and resign him at a lower AAV. But then you are taking the chance someone else offers him a much better deal than the Sox are willing to pay. However given the fact he wants to stay on the Sox really bad judging by his comments it's highly doubtful he accepts another offer unless it blows away the Sox offer.
  13. Sure ignore the rest of my post when I praised him greatly. There's nothing wrong with getting a useful piece for him then bringing him back in 2020 . It would be like we kept him all along and got something for renting him out to another team for a few months. What's not to like about that ? It also gives Jose a chance to maybe get a ring or increase his value when he's a free agent if he has a good playoff series. It seems to be good for Jose and for the Sox. But you selfishly want to keep him for August and September and sacrifice anything that can help the team while also having a good chance to reacquire him, What good will come from keeping Abreu on the Sox for those 2 or 2 .5 months ? Will he lead the Sox into the playoffs ?
  14. Great you've been like my fact checker today. Luckily for me my memory and guesses were both right . Thanks again.
  15. 1st thing I did was look at his Baseball Reference page and saw he was 6'4" 275. The next thing i thought was lose some weight like Avi did and loosen up that swing. Avi never looks pudgy but I always though he was too heavy. Avi was too athletic to be carrying so much weight. Not sure how athletic Reed is but I'm just going to guess that he's about 20 lbs. heavier than he was in college until someone tells me I'm wrong. Avi got in better shape and he became a better player for it. Reed I guess has a rep as a decent fielding 1st baseman so maybe he has some quickness or was light on his feet.I wonder how he would play at 250 lbs.
  16. Let's say he gets traded to the Rangers . I doubt her gets a ring there. I think the Sox could convince him that they would take him back. There's no guarantee he will get a ring with the Sox so if he has a chance he should go for it. A player probably shouldn't be saying I don't want to go because it severely undercuts his leverage in negotiations. The Sox response in a situation like that might be to offer him less, but maybe they are fair about it. Who knows. My guess is the Sox hold onto him. As far as what they do after that . I have no idea if they offer him multiple years or just keep going year by year Jose probably would take a qualifying offer but do the Sox want to pay him $18Mfor a year or offer him 3 years and $36 or something like that ? I guess we will find out.
  17. This is a good post. There are many that say it's a business decision . If you can get anything good then trade him and let Jose know if he wants to come back in 2020 the Sox will do all they can. I say this myself. It's the right decision. Of course that's an opinion without sentiment. Really though we all love the Sox so there is always sentiment involved being a fan moreso towards the players than anyone else. Abreu has been a model citizen, a leader and a mentor and not only that but he wants to stay with the Sox and perhaps be looked upon as a Sox Cuban Legend like Minnie MInoso and yeah maybe he wants Yoan to continue that tradition. All I know he is good for the team and a great White Sox but trading him still might be the right thing to do under the right conditions.
  18. Until Machado called them and asked about SD , they said it was great there apparently.Or one of them did . I just remember seeing it.
  19. Didn't he just injure his knee also and out for the rest of the year ?
  20. Eh I don't find it all that troubling. The Sox weren't expected to contend and they had a rash of injuries to pitchers in Kopech and Dunning and Cease wasn't ready. They brought him in to stay healthy and eat innings for all of 1 year. I know pitching badly doesn't eat many innings but he has stayed healthy and given the Rodon injury it became even more important. Would I have liked a better pitcher ? Sure maybe along with Nova. I was angling for Mike Fiers and/ or at least one of the injury prone guys who were on the market as a fifth starter but certainly not as a 4th starter. Remember I am the guy who has been wanting guys like Moustakas and JD Martinez during the rebuild so I was never against adding more talent during the rebuild because of the potential of flipping higher end talent brings back more talent and given the Sox drafting I wasn't entirely comfortable with not adding talent because of that. But the tanking more and drafting more /higher won out over getting talent and flipping it except in the case of relievers. The Sox went cheap with Banuelos , Covey Santana . It mean its still kind of burns me the Sox weren't getting FA's while the market was really down on a lot of them or didn't try harder for guys like Avi, Schoop, Fiers, Dj Lemahieu Wade Miley, Brantley and a few others. All the focus was on Machado and his friends instead of plugging a few other holes. Imagine if the Sox had signed Brantley instead of trading for the brother in law and Jay.Or if the Sox had Lemahieu at 2nd base with Fiers and Miley instead of Baneulos and Santana.
  21. The problem with the broadcast is too many talking heads and they think the viewers are more interested in Thome and Griffey than they are on the prospects. I mean hey it's great that Thome thinks everything is great and that Harold and Griffey can joke around together but come on now talk about the game and the prospects . That last Robert AB you barely knew he was up.
  22. Being politically correct wan't a thing when Van Buren was President , Now it is.
