  1. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 15, 2016 -> 01:37 PM) Morneau played 40 games with the Twins in AJ's last season there, 2003. Maybe from Spring Training there's something, but that's a lot of hate for a guy from a short amount of time in ST. I didn't look up that part of it but opponents hated AJ anyway. And Ozzie was always flapping his lips though mostly respectfully with the piranha stuff.
  2. QUOTE (LDF @ Mar 15, 2016 -> 01:33 PM) cincy will need to look into doing a salary dump. i will look at that first, play hard ball with cincy. Morneau i keep hearing this, but i am asking, how much of the col factor is in those stats. Not a lot . Good road splits.
  3. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 15, 2016 -> 01:24 PM) Whether that will actually matter when there's money on the table I don't know. Much easier to hold onto a rivalry when none of your money is on the table. One more version of it from 06: I think he played with AJP a few years and probably didnt get along with him so that last added quote about "anyone but the Sox" most likely is because AJ was there in 2006 which is no longer the case . Also Ozzie always stirred up the rivalry talking about the "piranhas". Doubt it matters now when you don't have a job.
  4. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Mar 15, 2016 -> 01:16 PM) Justin Morneau will never sign with the White Sox, ever. Even if we were the last team on Earth. Not happening. Beggars can't be choosers but what issues from the past are you referring to ?
  5. QUOTE (blackmooncreeping @ Mar 15, 2016 -> 01:00 PM) No thanks to anyone with recurrent concussion issues. Morneau did hit .316/.363/.487 with 20 homers in 732 PA over the last two seasons and he won the NL batting title in 2014, so it’s rather surprising that his market has been almost entirely quiet. (from MLB trade rumors) 2014 wasn't so long ago and he had concussion problems before then although they did resurface again last year along with a neck issue but he seemed to have come back pretty strongly .
  6. QUOTE (blackmooncreeping @ Mar 15, 2016 -> 01:04 PM) With the 'found money' if Laroche is truly done, maybe now we can swing a deal for CarGO that doesn't include Anderson or Fulmer. The extra money in theory lets us take on more of his contract, and thus offer less quality prospects. I'd rather pursue that then Morneau or Bruce... Trading Cargo would make the Rockies front office look like liars since Parra signed there to play with him and they've pretty much said Cargo isn't going anywhere.
  7. QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Mar 15, 2016 -> 01:03 PM) Too bad he didn't do this when Cespedes was still out there.. Cespedes will be there next year too when the Sox have even more money to spend.
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 15, 2016 -> 12:59 PM) I have to say, this seems to be my favorite move. Sign Justin Morneau and pocket the savings for the break if we are in it, if not, blow out the Cuban market for the international pool. The Latin American kids are almost all locked up already, but the Cuban kids are wide open, and there is a lot of talent there. Also Morneau had a good 2014 and although it was with Colorado the home away splits are good . Also a good OBP guy. But better hurry Red Sox are looking into him .
  9. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Mar 15, 2016 -> 12:36 PM) Why would the Sox offer that though? Unless he's really injured badly, I don't think the Sox would offer him $5M or more to quit. Even if he's only a little bit better than he was last year they are a better team with him than without him, and it may be too late to spend the saved money this season anyway. Better with than without him ? Disagree, but we'll never know if he would have helped or hurt. Could be a huge blessing . Morneau could probably be had for Latos money and that leaves money for the trade deadline. Despite missing most of last season Morneau came back to hit .338 with a .423 OBP in 78 AB's in Sept/Oct. Doesn't have the power he used to but still hits righties very good and isn't terrible against lefties. He would be the obvious choice except for injury history.
  10. QUOTE (hi8is @ Mar 15, 2016 -> 12:18 PM) Didn't someone predict a LaRoche retirement in the bold predictions thread? Crazy. I might have. I think I hoped for it in a few posts.
  11. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Mar 15, 2016 -> 11:59 AM) Rabbit mentioned going after Coghlan on Twitter. .271/.345/.449 over past 3 seasons against RHP. Should be relatively cheap to acquire. That matters ? It's just his speculation like anyone else speculates on here about another OF or Morneau or whoever. Solid guys like Coghlan are already part of the A's team and doubtful to be moved unless A's aren't competing near the deadline.
  12. Sign Morneau for peanuts.Available money can be spent on the following. Upgrade at trade deadline, young international players, any international players, or next year when the Sox lose Jackson, Danks, Avila ,Navarro and whoever I'm forgetting. Jonathan Lucroy anyone ?
  13. QUOTE (fathom @ Mar 15, 2016 -> 11:37 AM) If he sticks to his retirement, I'll be surprised if Bruce isn't traded for. God no unless its for a song.
  14. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Mar 15, 2016 -> 11:32 AM) Wow. First reaction is I hope he and his family are OK. Second reaction is we have $13M to spend. This. Has to be physical since it came suddenly when he was optimistic earlier.
  15. QUOTE (Dunt @ Mar 15, 2016 -> 10:27 AM) I like this order a lot better than any with Lawrie in the 2 hole Hmm ,No Avi for the last 2 games and he's not listed on the available players for this game. Both Ventura (yesterday) and Maeda are righties.
  16. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Mar 15, 2016 -> 10:51 AM) Garcia's 2015 batting average by month: April: .309 May: .333 June: .181 July: .253 August: .278 September: .208 It's not his average that was his problem. He always had the talent to get balls to drop into right field while reaching for bad pitches. It was always weak contact and not hitting like a guy of his build should. The xtra base hits where he is driving the balls to both gaps and over the fence are what we need to focus on. So far this spring his SLG. (.913) and OPS (1.393) are obscene and easily best on the team for those with more than 20 AB's .
  17. Oh another good sign. As I mentioned his HR's usually came on low hanging breaking pitches which if I recall he would hit very hard and very far but to left center field. Now it seems as if those pitches are being recognized earlier and as a result are being hit very hard and very far but to left field. In other words if he is recognizing the pitch earlier its resulting in swinging earlier ( microseconds) and pulling it more . Pulling those pitches will result in more HR's since a 350 foot fly ball to left can be a HR but an out to left center.
  18. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 15, 2016 -> 10:35 AM) In 2015 ST A-games Avisail Garcia hit .313 during the spring with a couple HR and a couple 2b. Whats more encouraging about this spring is the Xtra base hits. In only 23 AB's so far this spring he has 3 double 1 triple and 2 HR's . Last year he had 3 doubles and 2 HR's but that was in 64 AB's. Yes small sample sizes and spring training but just looking for positives.
  19. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 15, 2016 -> 10:15 AM) JJ Stankevitz ‏@JJStankevitz 3m3 minutes ago What can the #WhiteSox make of Avisail Garcia's fast start to spring training? On @CSNChicago: http://www.csnchicago.com/white-sox/what-c...s-strong-spring … The most important aspect of the fast start is that it will reinforce to Avi that the corrections made to his stance will work. If you make change and don't see results you will start thinking the changes were wrong. Avi is a big guy who has always hit like a slap hitter throwing his bat at a lot of pitches as if he always had 2 strikes on him. But when he hit a hanging breaking ball and it goes 450 feet you could see the power potential. If he is seeing the ball better and it helps him recognize pitches , make harder contact and lay off the crap pitchers throw him then he will improve greatly. The early results are encouraging but nothing to get excited about yet.
  20. Good to see Hawkins get a sac fly against a tough righty like Ventura to get Frazier home after he doubled.
  21. QUOTE (PorkChopExpress @ Mar 14, 2016 -> 01:09 PM) Don't Lawrie and Ventura have some issues with each other? Yes. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2435365...ng-brett-lawrie
  22. Nuts ! Was hoping to see Avi in the lineup today since he's 0-12 lifetime against Ventura . Figured I might get a better gauge of Avi's new stance against someone he hasn't had success against in the past. Not that one game would mean much or the small sample size of the past AB's but just as a curiosity.
  23. QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Mar 12, 2016 -> 02:28 PM) What do they do with Avi if he keeps hitting like this?? Celebrate
  24. QUOTE (fathom @ Mar 12, 2016 -> 01:04 PM) Johnson is getting demolished All you guys talk about spring training meaning nothing but EJ gets lit up and now it means something ?
  25. QUOTE (bmags @ Mar 12, 2016 -> 11:22 AM) I'm really hoping Cabrera. He was basically signed to solve our 2 hole problem. Melky has also been less effective against lefties . Personally I'd like to see Avi there if he can keep hitting especially against a lefty and also because he uses right field a lot so with a runner on 1st he has a better chance getting to 3rd. Also because of his speed I'd anticipate less double plays.
