Battle of the Field Mice: Sox at Pirates 7/18 5:40 CDT
Their remaining schedule is pretty tough. Might have 5/6 guys from the 26 gone and perhaps some others too.

Might be Robert's best game of the year , which is over now. His best run of the year too with the 5 game hit streak. Despite the bad year he can be electric with all his tools displayed in 1 game like today. Michael A Taylor is like the permanently bad version of Robert.

How do the Sox ever improve?
Anyone who thinks they should have 10+ years of life left should be reasonably optimistic about having new owners with money. It's the time left with JR that has everyone scratching each others eyes out here . The mods are power tripping on their support of ultra negative feedback which is of course the side that most of them stand. Shouldn't something like our ability to report posts be private instead of broadcast to the rest of the board ? Apparently it's a feature that people don't use that often but nice to know that if I did use it it could be thrown back in my face by a mod who isn't really trying to be an arbiter of fairness but just supporting the negative boys club . This place should be just shut down for 5 years or the mods should just decide who will be allowed into their negative boys club so they can stroke each others testosterone . Big fish in a small pond egotists. Too many signs of Fascism around here. Lord of the Flies level failure of self governance. It's very chaotic. There's less people posting here now. That's because there's just less interest in the team because they are bad but it's also the toxic environment here. Still a lot posts though because some people revel in being a loud critical voice . It's like being a pyromaniac and lighting things on fire and getting a thrill from watching it burn with other pyros laughing maniacally slapping you on your back.

2025 Trade deadline rumors thread
I think the more they play the quicker you find out which one you rather have, if that's even a problem at all or needs to be resolved quickly. It's not. I mean I can keep repeating it's a long rebuild, with a lame duck owner and lame duck executives operating on a shoestring budget because the owner has other fish to fry and with a possible lockout on the horizon. I mean sure knock yourselves out arguing and crying about a couple million wasted on bad players as if you didn't know that picking players from that end of the talent pool to fill your MLB and AAA teams is going to result in a lot of bad looking decisions . The best you can hope for is that there is real change going on behind the scenes again with probably more that can be done with more money. This is likely about the worst situation to be in. I mean we're still the 2nd worst team in baseball but wow we have a pitching staff thats been comparable to playoff teams like the Dodgers and Blue Jays at least for the 1st 100 games even with all the TJ surgeries . They've done amazingly well finding pitching out of nowhere. We can look back and see a lot of people thought without Fedde and Crochet and terrible RP that the Sox would be even worse this year. But the majority did expect an uptick in wins , mainly because it just seemed implausible to lose so many again. Colorado is taking a stab at it though. But this was the year to get a shot at the 2026 top draft pick anyway. So, carry on with the minutiae .

2025 Trade deadline rumors thread
Chances are he won't have as good of a year next year , he'll be 35 and he won't have the extra year of control . He'll be worth even less . He gets moved . I don't know how many of these competitive balance teams who always get a s%*# load of draft picks are going to make the playoffs but those are teams you need to trade with sometimes .They're quicker to unload guys to make room for new draftees. The Sox don't get CB picks or extra draft money because they are a big market team in a 2 team city which sort of makes them a smaller market team but without all the advantages that , Cleveland, Minnesota, St Louis , Tampa Bay, Pittsburgh , Colorado etc get. Then you throw in the lottery and anti tanking rules and it hurts the big market teams more than the small market teams . So JR is cutting his teams youth supply in all kinds of different ways when you throw in not competing for the most promising players because you can say you're morally opposed to the way business is done with handshake deals for 13 to 15 year olds before they're eligible to be signed. So your talent pool is corrupted from the start. Not keeping pace with the league with R & D puts you even farther behind. Or hiring the better scouts or staying out of the Japanese or Korean markets. They act so Mom andPop even now emphasizing local talent. It honestly makes me think it's just another way to save travel money. Everybody knows warm weather areas produce the most talented players because more kids play baseball year round. Can we seriously think of any more reasons that makes it harder to judge and develop talent if the supply chain is smaller with less quantity and quality talent evaluators and rusty old tools ( ( figuratively speaking) ? Ay caramba !

Official 2025 Draft Day Thread
Since no one has really questioned the tools of the 1st 2 picks there's really no reason to be sick of hearing about high character players . Assholes are sometimes great players as are nice guys. Sometimes hard work increases your skills and lack of hard work or dedication erodes your skills. Nothing in the past dictates what happens going forward. This is true whether or not one chooses to believe it. Hard to tell where the organization goes between now and when the Ishbia's take over. It's not promising since JR likely won't be putting any money in the team and Getz, in that scenario ,may have to invest more in infrastructure than player payroll which seems to be what he doing now . Simultaneously he's trying to assemble more pitching talent that's available cheaply through other avenues like the Rule 5 draft and minor trades. Actual upscale hitting talent will need to be developed more often than it has in the past but the acquisition of international under 18 yrs. old talent has to be seriously upgraded to really consistently compete. This has hurt the Sox as much as any failure the organization has made, among many. Established MLB hitting will not come to the Sox via Free Agency until JR is no longer in charge.

Yes, let's all become annoyed because players drafted are supposedly decent human beings who like baseball and work hard just to show your blase attitude towards the Sox any chance you get . SMH , as if the Sox aren't supposed to pump these guys up. Might as well be a 10 yr.old saying "Whatever ! "

White Sox acquire OF Will Robertson from Blue Jays
But for those who don't know it's referencing the old 1960 ' s Lost in Space TV program, 1998 movie or 2018 Netflix TV series . The Robinson family Robot would warn of impending danger by repeating "Danger Will Robinson Danger" to the son in the Robinson family. I don't ever recall him saying "Danger Penny or Judy Robinson to his 2 older sisters. Penny Robinson was played by Angela Cartwright who played Brigitta Von Trapp in the Sound of Music and also played the daughter of entertainer Danny Thomas in a longer running TV Show than Lost In Space 3 seasons called The Danny Thomas Show. He was actually a popular entertainer at the time and became well known for starting the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and hosting Telethons to raise money for the Hospitals and pediatric cancer research. He was the real life father of actress Marlo Thomas the star of the hit ABC show That Girl. Marlo Thomas married famous Chicago Talk Show host Phil Donahue. She continued her father's philanthropic work in pediatric cancer.

Not good that Smith was pulled this early with 18 innings to cover today.

Always good to turn on the game and the 1st things you see are Tauchman walking and a Robert bullet into the LF bullpen. Unfortunately the K looking on Elko was called so fast by the ump that it's looked he made up his mind it was a strike right out of Allen's hand. It wasn't.

Sox to Sign Adrian Houser
Instead of using green when I'm not 100% serious I'll use a 😋or 😉 to indicate my tongue in cheekiness. I still can't figure out how to use bold print so doubt I ever used green.

Sox to Sign Adrian Houser
Every player goes through peaks and valleys and even moreso with rookies coming out of nowhere. In Shane Smith's case it could be fatigue since the drop-off has been so drastic and it could be combined with just plain old missing your spots. I don't see the need to trade any of the young starting pitching. Davis Martin I speculated on that possibility earlier but his value isn't that high he has been injured. Burke is a rookie, Cannon 2nd year. All could become worse or better but none of them have been so good to warrant trading. Right now their value comes from being OK MLB pitchers with upside and being pre arb guys . Don't think we're looking at any guaranteed playoff starting pitchers if traded now. So you hold for the future because several mid to back end starters are valuable cheap starting pitchers who for the most part keep you in a lot of games even with 4 - 4.50 ERA. Plus they can get better and if they do they still have plenty of years left before free agency and all those years become more valuable . They also became more valuable to the Sox in the wake of all the Tommy John surgeries and the odd developmental years of Schultz, Taylor, and Hagen Smith.

Sox to Sign Adrian Houser
I never said you did . The point is anyone can say a player sucks with bravado in that kind of acquisition . He's picking low hanging fruit. There's no need to be fair . In his usual I know way more than you all style of posting with ultra confident declarations of who sucks and who doesn't I don't see the need to make excuses for him.

Sox to Sign Adrian Houser
Maybe . Not many pitcher who aren't already established as great pitchers can go on a 9 game run of Greg Maddyx type pitching. He's right up there with Skenes, Skubal, Ranger Suarez and Wheeler among the best ERAs in baseball since they got him. We talk about getting better scouting there's examples all around us with Vasil, Shane Smith, Houser, Civale hasn't been bad. Perez got off to a great start before he got hurt. Those are all pretty good finds from the Rule 5 and dealing in season keeping your nose to the grindstone probably hearing Houser had started doing things to get in the best shape of his career as far as diet and exercise and it paid off for him with upticks in velocity ,movement and command.

Sox to Sign Adrian Houser
To be fair people trying to be the brightest bulb in the lighthouse declaring nondescript pickups to suck aren't really going out on a limb . Around here going out on a limb is saying I hope that he can give the Sox what they are hoping to get from him even if it seems unlikely from our observation point in the very cheap seats when most are making fun of any transaction and the people making them.

What if things changed in 26
You're no longer close enough to the team if you ever were, to pass judgement on so many people. All Getz is doing is working what he was given which is pretty much nothing and a lot of it was new hires , some last year and some this year. So maybe you better do some real journalism again and start constructing a time line starting with when Getz took over and investigating who was hired for what roles and when, in every department along with timeslines for when the new Dominican Academy will be finished. Also depending on agreements already in place with the most promising youngsters, figure out what year to expect to start doing a better job in the international market . Have someone take you on a tour and show you the Sox pitching ,hitting, and R & D new equipment. Maybe you can learn the purpose of a Trajekt machine, see the motion capture biomechanics in action and things you've never had a chance to see before. I think you have lost the objectivity necessary to do an honest assessment . It's a shame too because you use to do good historical work. But you're stuck in the past while the organization has been taking steps to move forward with some dusty money from the bottom of JR's change jar.

7/9 game already started gamethread
That was such a feeble swing. It's like he didn't care to swing and come close to the ball. Not a lot of effort to at least reach out for the pitch. I mean it's and 0-2 a layman like me just from observing baseball for years can tell him on 0-2 75 % of the time your getting down and away out of the zone. Just take the damn pitch or pretend you were going after it just so if other teams are paying attention you don't want to give the impression you're on automatic take for every 0-2 count you get.

First Place Blue Jays Come to Town
It's ok plenty of room for the riders of the bandwagon boat late arrivals.

First Place Blue Jays Come to Town
Sounds like a good top of the lineup to me although they'd probably not put Montgomery 3rd to keep the pressure off him.

First Place Blue Jays Come to Town
Justin Ishbia doesn't think so since he was right behind home plate with his boy in the front row waving at people who recognized him.
