  1. QUOTE (soxfan49 @ Oct 11, 2015 -> 07:28 PM) So sad to see USC this way. Haden and Sark both need to go. If Saban leaves Alabama as the rumor goes, do everything you can. If not, Chip Kelly, Jimbo Fisher and Kevin Sumlin have to be their first 3 calls. Agreed with this list. Lots of people have given Haden a pass in LA because he didn't need the job, but now I expect alot more people to be screaming for his head. I'd go: Saban Fisher Kelly and that's it.
  2. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Oct 11, 2015 -> 07:09 PM) Any rumblings on who the bench coach might be? I've heard Sandy Alomar Jr will be brought in if granted permission by the Indians.
  3. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 10, 2015 -> 10:58 PM) That is a load of crap. Sox fans aren't showing up to watch a bad team with a good manager. The manager is just another in the list of things to complain about. Casuals wouldn't. But hardcore fans, such as the ones who post on this very messageboard would. Look, we all understand that in sports, all teams go through downward spirals at some point. It's inevitable as players get old, managers get burnt out and GMs lose touch. What's driving the hardcore fanbase crazy, is that everyone can see Robin is not an average manager. It's hard to argue if he's even mediocre. The fact that they even choose to keep him around and the reasoning why (loyalty) drives one bats*** crazy. Heck, you had a few people here last year, when Maddon became available that we need to fire Robin right away and hire him. You had some that thought that was crazy, but the Cubs did it themselves and look like geniuses.
  4. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 10, 2015 -> 10:34 PM) You can't start Lynn. Either Garcia or they go really radical and start Wainright for symbolic/emotional motivation, knowing he can probably only give you 2-3 innings. That's assuming a 2-1 deficit. Yep, just like Collins, but worse was Matheny today. No need to burn through your entire bullpen. It's not like you get 3 days in between like the NBA.
  5. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Oct 11, 2015 -> 12:09 AM) Obviously Utley 's play was dirty, but how in the hell did they call him safe? He literally never touched the base, then ran back to the dugout. The rule states that if guy deliberately try to take out the fielder, the ball is dead, you are out and so is the batter. Mets would still be leading 2-1. https://twitter.com/jareddiamond/status/653...7297678336?s=09 As someone who is rooting for the Dodgers, I agree. Now, I will say, Ruben should've never tried to turn around to wind up. I would've also given him the neighborhood play on that. Lastly, at the very least Utley should've been out completely. That play shouldn't have even been challengable. At worst, you're looking at 2-2 score and I'm pretty confident the way it was going, Mets would've regained the lead. Dodgers have been horrific offensively. On another note, I had how Collins managed his pitching today. If you were going to put in Reed, why take out Colon who's also a righty? Also, Colon basically got you the double play, but because of a horribly officiated call, you take him out in favor of Addison Reed? And I would've left in Snydergaard to at least finish the inning. He looked that dominant to me.
  6. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Oct 8, 2015 -> 09:36 PM) Then turn off your PS4 and realize that this could never happen There's no reason to be a dick about anything. Just like anyone else in this thread, I'm brainstorming. I don't believe the Sox should try to compete next year, but I'm coming up with ideas for both sides. All of the guys I have listed have been rumored to be available or are FAs. So contribute something or shut the f*** up.
  7. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Oct 8, 2015 -> 12:44 PM) Brian Kelly isn't going to get fired. He's in that infuriating zone where he's performing well enough to keep his job but not well enough to excel. As an ND hater, I wouldn't fire him. I'd maybe make him give up some power, but there is no one out there better.
  8. QUOTE (scs787 @ Oct 8, 2015 -> 08:24 PM) Cody Kessler is making me sad. Also hearing 67% of his 1200+ yards is yards after the catch makes me pretty sad too. Asked why he wasnt getting 1st round consideration and now I'm seeing why.... Moving on to Paxton Lynch as my mid round QB of choice. Hoping the Memphis vs Ole Miss game is on TV next weekend to get a look at him vs a solid team. Yeah, Kessler is pretty overhyped. Rosen is the best LA QB, but he's only a freshman and apparently a huge ass according to my source at In and Out.
  9. I'll say this, if the Sox refuse on dealing Q or Sale and they want to contend, then they need at least 3 of these players in trades or FA. Cespedes CarGo Heyward Longoria Zobrist Getting Longoria might mean you deal Q or Fullmer. I'd personally go with Longoria, Cespedes and CarGo. I'd then sign Wieters on a one year deal. Eaton CarGo Abreu Longoria Cespedes Ramirez Wieters Thompson Johnson Find a way to dump LaRoche (possibly to the Pirates for nobody) and Danks (possibly to the Dodgers for nothing)
  10. QUOTE (fathom @ Oct 7, 2015 -> 11:05 PM) Sox have already added the top college pitcher the last two years. Pretty good start to rebuilding a team while not losing the best assets in the majors. You used the term rebuild. And I'll argue, if that's what it is, they need to do it right so they can have sustained success.
  11. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Oct 7, 2015 -> 11:33 PM) Q for Arenado Not happening.
  12. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Oct 7, 2015 -> 11:13 PM) That's why Q is the guy we move. We need talent in this lineup so he could help fetch us some. I think talent wise, he's going to acquire you either 1 major league hitter or a few prospects, not both. What the Sox need to do is stockpile on prospects right now. They need as many in the chamber as possible. If I'm the Sox, I know this goes against everything I've said, but I'd trade Quintana to the Dodgers for RHP 19 year old Angel German, and hope they sell low on either Joc Pederson or Yasiel Puig. You need 2 for 1 or 3 for 1 deals.
  13. QUOTE (fathom @ Oct 7, 2015 -> 10:15 PM) Absolutely there is. You have 3 potential aces on your roster for very cheap. Could be a long time before you get one pitcher as good as any of the big 3. It's not like sox have contracts that will cripple them the next 4 years. Who is out there to sign that's going to greatly improve your team? The Sox are at least 3 hitters away from being in any discussion.
  14. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Oct 7, 2015 -> 10:18 PM) Yeah there is, you'd be throwing away 4-5 seasons with no guarantees that you'll be any better off. It only makes sense if you are in a truly desperate situation, which despite all your wailing is not the case here. The thing is, there are no FAs out there. To get players that will help you, you are going to have to trade away that strong pitching which is the only strong aspect of this ballclub. They still will also have to find a way to dump LaRoche and trade Cabrera. On top of that, the season ticket list will dwindle even further next year and JR had to be convinced to pay what he did this year for a miserable failure. So in the end, even if JR was like "Fugg it, let's do this", the team needs to acquire the players via trade. Who are you going to acquire without trading your pitching? If you ask me, the Sox are in the same position as the Cubs were when Theo hopped on. Maybe only 3 keeps (2 for sure) and the rest was pretty damn trash.
  15. QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Oct 7, 2015 -> 08:50 PM) The thing with trading Quintana is your should get multiple top prospects back to fill multiple positions. The farm system is thin still and trading a bunch of prospects to get one bats is the wrong way of going. One bat is not going to fix the linup with to many holes. Plus those prospects listed are not going to get you a big bat that's needed. Agreed. Ideally, anyone you deal pitching wise is going to bring you back good hitting prospects or hitters who need a change of scenery and a prospect.
  16. BTW, what the Sox need to do is stop performing patch work. They need to do a full on rebuild with someone other than Kenny and IMO, other than Hahn and their current scouts. Clean house, built it correct. Problem is, they've already taken like 2 or 3 years building it wrong. Any FAs you sign should be either cheap scrapheap guys or people you intend on flipping at the deadline. Stay the course regardless of what fans say. You have to. Otherwise, pull a Yankees and buy the best players either in trades or elsewhere. Trot out a lineup of: Eaton Cabrera Cespedes Gonzalez Abreu Frazier Kendrick Ramirez Castro
  17. Hopefully the Cubs and Dodgers make it to the NLCS so I can watch Kershaw or Greinke dominate them.
  18. QUOTE (VAfan @ Oct 6, 2015 -> 06:05 PM) If the Sox were to add two bats, for my money Cespedes and Frazier would make sense. Cespedes is not eligible for a qualifying offer, is Cuban, and has solid power numbers. Can he play right field? This is the question. But at least it's only a matter of money to acquire him. Frazier gives you a power hitting third baseman whose defensive WAR is at least positive. The question here is what would it take to land him in a trade? These additions would give you a preponderance of right handed power. But they would make a huge difference for the Sox lineup, which could probably hide LaRoche in a platoon, and get by with a weak bottom of the order. Eaton Abreu Cabrera Cespedes Frazier LaRoche/Thompson Ramirez Flowers Sanchez I think this is also a pipe dream, but I'd happily support it as long at Quintana isn't sacrificed for Frazier, because I have no objection to the Sox spending money. I like this plan, but I just don't like the batting order. I rather flip flop Cabrera and Abreu.
  19. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Oct 4, 2015 -> 09:55 PM) No, any moneyballer wouldn't, that's a ridiculous claim. There's a reason Sale is ranked #5 in Fangraphs' Trade Value column. Just because SP only pitch every 5 days doesn't mean they aren't as valuable as everyday position players. In fact, the top SP face more batters over the course of the season than the top hitters get PA. I disagree. No, they wouldn't take an everyday player like LaRoche over Sale since LaRoche is that bad and Sale is that great that even if he pitched one pitch every 5 days, he'd still be more valuable. But if you're comparing Arrenado and Sale, I think you'll see all of them take Nolan. I wonder what it would take to get Manny Machado.
  20. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Oct 4, 2015 -> 09:55 PM) The Dodgers fans/hosts valuing Puig over Quintana just shows you how underrated Quintana still is. Puig also still has worldly potential and marketability if that counts for anything. To me, it'd be a pretty even trade if you did Q for Puig, but I just know, for the Dodgers, it isn't sexy enough especially when they got the money to get someone as good if not better than Q.
  21. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Oct 4, 2015 -> 08:10 PM) You honestly think we'd need to send prospects along with Quintana to acquire Frazier? You're vastly underrating him. He's young, left-handed, with a very cheap contract for many years, and he's solidified himself as a top 15 SP in baseball (at worst) and has been one of the most consistent pitchers in the game for more than 3 seasons now. You really think that couldn't get Todd Frazier? Also, I would take what people say on talk radio with a huge grain of salt. The common fan might not know how good Q is (IMO he's easily the most underrated player in the game), but I guarantee you GMs know how good he is. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/appreciating-jose-quintana/ I don't think I would do that trade(some trades simply don't make sense for both teams sometimes) from the Sox perspective or the Reds perspective unless there was another move lined up already.
  22. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Oct 4, 2015 -> 09:12 PM) You are nuts if you think they are trading White, especially considering that is one of his guys/draft picks. I really didn't like the pick for the Bears when it was made. I thought it was pointless to trade Marshall, especially if you were going to draft White. And I also thought Cooper was much better and was the only WR in the draft who made sense for the Bears if they were going to do that.
  23. It'd be wise for the Bears to sell the farm. Young wants out? Great. I'd deal any and everybody, especially Martellus, Forte and Alshon. Wasn't a huge fan of Kevin White or trading Brandon Marshall in the first place from a football perspective, but I'd trade White if he had some value. Everyone must go.
  24. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Oct 4, 2015 -> 07:52 PM) This is how you're trying to get a read on Q's trade value? LA talk radio?! I'll look at LA talk radio and Dodger/Angel forums to familiarize myself on what an organization and its fans think of their prospects. It's no different than me going on Soxtalk and listening to Waddle & Silvy. Let's put it this way, a team like the Dodgers rather just sign David Price and keep Seager than deal him for Sale or an ace of his stature which is why they didn't go make the trade for David Price during the deadline.
