Adam Eaton
Sorry, I rather have Trayce out there full time and see him learn the ropes. Eaton is a nice player to have, but is the type if player you should dump if you have a bad team. I'd trade him in a package.

If the Sox arent in the top 10, how do you improve this offseason?
Honestly, the Soc need to clean house outside of Abreu and Sale. Even then, I might see what I can fetch for Sale. Let KW go. I'd also let Hahn go and fire Robin. Trade Quintana, Eaton, Johnson, and everyone outside of Abreu and Sale, and load up on prospects. I don't want to hear about we don't have a spot open in the OF or infield. This while team pretty much sucks.

QUOTE (Boogua @ Sep 13, 2015 -> 10:55 PM) Rodgers, Luck, Brady, Brees, Manning? I mean, he's good, and maybe you can make an argument for him, but I wouldn't say easily. Hell of a comeback though. Manning is done. Brees is almost done. I'd put Romo in the top 5 category these days.

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Sep 10, 2015 -> 07:00 PM) Me neither, the red lines were cool. Eh, it's an ode to the old Chicago Stadium. I noticed all the older folks who were able to see a game at Chicago Stadium love it. Younger folks hate it. Don't worry, that's the same reaction the older folks had when the court at the United Center was revealed.

QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 12, 2015 -> 05:12 PM) Thought it was cause they didn't stop it on a first down. ND would have used their timeouts anyways. Agreed. I noticed the previous 2 plays, they didn't stop the clock which they're supposed to after 1st downs. I hate ND, but this game isn't the game to call a conspiracy.

My/Your Off Season Plan
QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Sep 10, 2015 -> 10:45 PM) The way things are going once they put that Sox uniform on = bust. Maybe Miggy performs but Pujols would require a team taking on a lot of salary. It's a bad contract since I think he is signed until he's 90. True, but maybe they don't bust. Pujols is still doing pretty good. Surprising since I think the Angels have a crap lineup with two generational type thumpers at the 2 and 3 spot with Trout and Pujols. Everyone else they throw out there is mediocre. Only exceptions may be Calhoun and maybe Cron. Detroit is in rebuild mode. Does it make sense for them to hold onto Miggy? I don't know. I hope not. Most importantly, the point is to get Abreu some much needed protection.

Fox Lake Cop shot and killed
What if the chief actually hired 3 guys to shoot the police officer? And the way they were able to get away is because the chief knew what they would be looking for and when. Pay a couple people off like the nanny to give a false statement...I don't know.

My/Your Off Season Plan
I think the Sox need to get multiple boppers. Longoria, CarGo/Puig. Hell, I'd check in on Detroit to see if they'd be willing to deal Miggy or the Angels with Pujols. Look at Beltre. I need at least 3 proven bats, I need LaRoche gone, I'm willing to deal Q. Definitely let Jeff S go.

Indians and Braves make a trade
QUOTE (GreenSox @ Aug 10, 2015 -> 10:11 AM) I would have, but not anymore. Sox are going to need Danks next year. RE another comment, I'm not sure I see any value that Laroche has. Dodgers wouldn't be either. They like Ethier again and see him as a leader in the clubhouse. The real problem behind him for the past few years was Mattingly pushing the wrong buttons.

Should Sox Go After Longoria?
I'd do it. But we need multiple bats. Upton, Longoria, CarGo. Break the bank!!!!

QUOTE (Mike F. @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 09:48 AM) What about the Sox buying low on Julio Teheran? He's a wreck this season, but he's shown flashes of being good in the past and Coop could probably fix him. Not to mention that he's young and cost controlled. That would be a great buy low option.

QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 10:38 PM) Prospects alone you're right wouldn't land Puig we would have to work a three way out to get LA a pitcher and a combo of our picks and theirs going to another team and us landing Puig. Same with Cespedes. I don't mind cleaning out the farm if we're going for it. The thing is, this team needs to pick a direction. Go all in and get rid of prospects or capitalize off the momentum and sell off all your major league players minus maybe Sale and Abreu.

QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 09:35 PM) Gomez is too pricey. CarGo is most likely IMO unless we can snag Puig. Maybe even get in a three way with Detroit for Cespedes Price and Cespedes to LAD Puig and prospect to Sox Prospects from Sox to Detroit?

Official Buyers Thread
I would honestly add two bats if I want a legit chance at competing. Puig will always be my first option. I don't think he's traded though without two starters going out or 1 starter we need and a hot prospect. The point is that we are buying now. So I would try for both CarGo and Justin Upton. We need protection around Abreu. And just DFA Adam LaRoche. Eaton Cabrera CarGo Abreu Upton

Samardzija Trade Packages
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 25, 2015 -> 11:04 AM) What available bats are a good fit for this team and actually available? I can't think of an available catcher who would be a big enough difference maker to motivate the Sox to make a deal. AJ's having a solid season and you could slot him in next to HGeovannyH for an upgrade. Stephen Vogt having a solid season for the A's but since he's controlled through 2019 that's a huge price. Lucroy tops the list but huge price again and he's having a down year. Are we willing to spend Anderson + more to get Lucroy or Vogt? 3b Todd Frazier is the obvious upgrade, but that's a defensive downgrade and another huge price. That'd again have to be Anderson + probably more than 1 of our minor league pitchers. They're not benching LaRoche, they're not benching Abreu, 2b we could make an upgrade but not likely a major bat available since it's 2b (you want to take on Cano's contract?). They're not benching Eaton, Cabrera is never going to live up to his contract since he's a terrible defender but he's hitting well lately so even if you try to upgrade him you might not get big results. The place where you could find someone cheaply, where there are guys who are free agents at the end of the year that might not cost Anderson, is right field. You'd still pay for a guy like Upton, you'd pay less for a guy like Marlon Byrd but get less of an upgrade, but are they ready to send Avi back to AAA? So to get a real upgrade it's either benching someone with a big contract, sending Avi down and replacing him, or going all in and trading Anderson + Montas + more for a major investment. If I'm the Sox, I look at upgrading every single position minus 1B with Abreu there. So if it's overpaying for Todd Frazier or Robinson Cano, so be it. This team is not good enough, to put it lightly. And that has to do with the everyday players.

Two Sobering Articles...
Even more reason to trade for a guy like Puig who can bring excitement and who I think will be a force one he has a change of scenery. Like it or not, the Sox are going to have to trade some of this pitching to get everyday position players who can make an impact. Hell, I wonder if TB would be looking to sell Longoria and what they would want for him. If you can get him and Puig with Abreu in the lineup, it's starting to look a whole lot better. This team needs a flat out overhaul. If it means even giving up Sale to get a few impact guys, I might be willing to do it. And I love me some Chris Sale.

Yasiel Puig
QUOTE (Bigsoxhurt35 @ Jul 24, 2015 -> 09:45 PM) Sometimes to add an impact bat ya need to move an impact starter. I love Q and not thrilled about moving him, but we've shown the ability to draft and develop pitching. We can't develop hitters worth dick. This. Sox are horrible at developing everyday position players. That's their biggest need. Pitching they can do with their eyes closed. So you should trade some of that pitching to get everyday players. I wonder if you could get away with trading Shark and Melky to the Dodgers.

Yasiel Puig
QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 24, 2015 -> 08:56 PM) What I don't get is that the starting pitching goes from a positive to a big negative if you trade Q and Shark. Just getting Puig wouldn't be enough to solve the offensive issues. Because he's electric, puts butts in the seat and when he's not playing with pretentious pricks as his teammates, he has passion for the game that elevates him higher than most players in the majors. I'd definitely gamble on Puig.
-
Yasiel Puig
You would get Puig and some middle prospect at most back for Shark and Q. I live in LA now, have listened to the radio and they want at minimum, two #3 solid starters since they have no one behind Greinke. They likely will wait until they're out of the Hamels race though.

Yasiel Puig
QUOTE (knightni @ Jul 17, 2015 -> 11:34 AM) Puig for Shark, Micah Johnson, and Montas? Too much? That's what I was thinking. Max and Marcellus did recently go over the double standard with Puig though. He runs into a wall to catch a ball, and they call him wreckless. Joc Pederson does it and they say "Oh look, Joc is giving up his body for the good of his team". Puig hits a homer and everyone acts like it's about time. They really neutered his personality and it's affected his passion for the game. Dodgers want pitching, Sox need hitters. I proposed a few weeks ago that they should be going after Puig. I think once he's on a different team, you'll see excitement from him again.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 2, 2015 -> 05:40 PM) Not in a million years would I want him around. Why not? Also, maybe this is a better question for the palehose thread, but would you guys entertain a deal centered around Yasiel Puig for Chris Sale?
