Bring in Upton, vmart and Cargo

QUOTE (Mike F. @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 09:48 AM) What about the Sox buying low on Julio Teheran? He's a wreck this season, but he's shown flashes of being good in the past and Coop could probably fix him. Not to mention that he's young and cost controlled. That would be a great buy low option.

QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 10:38 PM) Prospects alone you're right wouldn't land Puig we would have to work a three way out to get LA a pitcher and a combo of our picks and theirs going to another team and us landing Puig. Same with Cespedes. I don't mind cleaning out the farm if we're going for it. The thing is, this team needs to pick a direction. Go all in and get rid of prospects or capitalize off the momentum and sell off all your major league players minus maybe Sale and Abreu.
-
QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 09:35 PM) Gomez is too pricey. CarGo is most likely IMO unless we can snag Puig. Maybe even get in a three way with Detroit for Cespedes Price and Cespedes to LAD Puig and prospect to Sox Prospects from Sox to Detroit?
-
I would honestly add two bats if I want a legit chance at competing. Puig will always be my first option. I don't think he's traded though without two starters going out or 1 starter we need and a hot prospect. The point is that we are buying now. So I would try for both CarGo and Justin Upton. We need protection around Abreu. And just DFA Adam LaRoche. Eaton Cabrera CarGo Abreu Upton

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 25, 2015 -> 11:04 AM) What available bats are a good fit for this team and actually available? I can't think of an available catcher who would be a big enough difference maker to motivate the Sox to make a deal. AJ's having a solid season and you could slot him in next to HGeovannyH for an upgrade. Stephen Vogt having a solid season for the A's but since he's controlled through 2019 that's a huge price. Lucroy tops the list but huge price again and he's having a down year. Are we willing to spend Anderson + more to get Lucroy or Vogt? 3b Todd Frazier is the obvious upgrade, but that's a defensive downgrade and another huge price. That'd again have to be Anderson + probably more than 1 of our minor league pitchers. They're not benching LaRoche, they're not benching Abreu, 2b we could make an upgrade but not likely a major bat available since it's 2b (you want to take on Cano's contract?). They're not benching Eaton, Cabrera is never going to live up to his contract since he's a terrible defender but he's hitting well lately so even if you try to upgrade him you might not get big results. The place where you could find someone cheaply, where there are guys who are free agents at the end of the year that might not cost Anderson, is right field. You'd still pay for a guy like Upton, you'd pay less for a guy like Marlon Byrd but get less of an upgrade, but are they ready to send Avi back to AAA? So to get a real upgrade it's either benching someone with a big contract, sending Avi down and replacing him, or going all in and trading Anderson + Montas + more for a major investment. If I'm the Sox, I look at upgrading every single position minus 1B with Abreu there. So if it's overpaying for Todd Frazier or Robinson Cano, so be it. This team is not good enough, to put it lightly. And that has to do with the everyday players.

I'll be checking him out tonight at my first Angels game.

Even more reason to trade for a guy like Puig who can bring excitement and who I think will be a force one he has a change of scenery. Like it or not, the Sox are going to have to trade some of this pitching to get everyday position players who can make an impact. Hell, I wonder if TB would be looking to sell Longoria and what they would want for him. If you can get him and Puig with Abreu in the lineup, it's starting to look a whole lot better. This team needs a flat out overhaul. If it means even giving up Sale to get a few impact guys, I might be willing to do it. And I love me some Chris Sale.
-
QUOTE (Bigsoxhurt35 @ Jul 24, 2015 -> 09:45 PM) Sometimes to add an impact bat ya need to move an impact starter. I love Q and not thrilled about moving him, but we've shown the ability to draft and develop pitching. We can't develop hitters worth dick. This. Sox are horrible at developing everyday position players. That's their biggest need. Pitching they can do with their eyes closed. So you should trade some of that pitching to get everyday players. I wonder if you could get away with trading Shark and Melky to the Dodgers.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 24, 2015 -> 08:56 PM) What I don't get is that the starting pitching goes from a positive to a big negative if you trade Q and Shark. Just getting Puig wouldn't be enough to solve the offensive issues. Because he's electric, puts butts in the seat and when he's not playing with pretentious pricks as his teammates, he has passion for the game that elevates him higher than most players in the majors. I'd definitely gamble on Puig.
-
You would get Puig and some middle prospect at most back for Shark and Q. I live in LA now, have listened to the radio and they want at minimum, two #3 solid starters since they have no one behind Greinke. They likely will wait until they're out of the Hamels race though.
-
QUOTE (knightni @ Jul 17, 2015 -> 11:34 AM) Puig for Shark, Micah Johnson, and Montas? Too much? That's what I was thinking. Max and Marcellus did recently go over the double standard with Puig though. He runs into a wall to catch a ball, and they call him wreckless. Joc Pederson does it and they say "Oh look, Joc is giving up his body for the good of his team". Puig hits a homer and everyone acts like it's about time. They really neutered his personality and it's affected his passion for the game. Dodgers want pitching, Sox need hitters. I proposed a few weeks ago that they should be going after Puig. I think once he's on a different team, you'll see excitement from him again.
-
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 2, 2015 -> 05:40 PM) Not in a million years would I want him around. Why not? Also, maybe this is a better question for the palehose thread, but would you guys entertain a deal centered around Yasiel Puig for Chris Sale?
-
Who do you want to see replace Robin as manager of the Sox?

QUOTE (woods of ypres @ Jul 2, 2015 -> 03:07 PM) Ken Macha, Ron Washington, Bud Black, Ron Roenicke, Dave Martinez or the bench coach of a team that's been successful lately like the Pirates, or the A's. I thought Macha was against Advanced Stats. Maybe not. Ron Washington wouldn't be bad, but his life was in spirals when he left Texas. Not a fan of Bud Black or Ron Roenicke. I wanted Dave Martinez last time around, so I'd give him an interview. -
QUOTE (shipps @ May 15, 2015 -> 04:21 PM) Did he ever say what gig he was taking in san diego? I imagine its another producer type position... I don't blame him. I'm trying to do the same.

Houston with the lead and looking to expand. If the Clippers blow this, that would be sad. Looks like they were ready to blow them out of the water in the 3rd.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Apr 23, 2015 -> 10:08 PM) Good to see Rose play well in 2 out of the 3 games. Milwaukee's defense is actually decent too. Good signs. He actually played a good game in Game 2 as well. Even though his shot wasn't falling, he had 9 assists and 7 rebounds IIRC to go with 15pts.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 8, 2015 -> 06:17 PM) Technically didn't he have James Johnson also? As a rookie? I think not.
-
QUOTE (farmteam @ Mar 8, 2015 -> 11:16 AM) In a heartbeat. It has nothing to do with whether I think he'll turn out to be a good NFL player. Enough people think he can be, and you don't pass up a shot to take what could be a franchise QB. The Bears need another QB soon, if not now. Even if people think he'll be a dud, he's a lot more likely to succeed than any quarterback the Bears can get in the second round or later. EDIT: Only way I'd be ok with not taking Mariota if he's there is if someone else offers good picks to trade up and get him. But just taking someone else at 8 if Mariota is on the board? Absolutely not. If it's about BPA like Pace says and it's between Mariota and Cooper, I'd take Cooper. If I really want a QB, I'd take the guy out of Baylor in a later round. And I'm a guy who thinks the Bears shouuld've done everything to get rid of Cutler.
-
QUOTE (raBBit @ Mar 8, 2015 -> 02:07 PM) Does McDermott have to shoot every time he gets the ball? All he does is take contested jump shots and gets beat on defense. I was just watching Belinelli spin him around off the ball. What's funny is people were questioning Thibs on not playing him. Now it looks like Thibs is right again; he simply isn't ready. I, for one, will never question Thibs when it comes to rookies. Only guy who has failed under him is Teague.

QUOTE (danman31 @ Mar 8, 2015 -> 06:03 PM) MLS anyone? It's opening weekend. Unfortunately, the Fire look bad again. 1) I hope they open up free agency. 2) What the hell is going on with them? -
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 6, 2015 -> 08:31 PM) Salary cap. Well they could've kept DJ. Iirc, he wasn't asking for much at all. But garpax, don't value backup PGs except for Kirk Hinrich.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Feb 28, 2015 -> 08:59 PM) Patrick Sharp has managed to sleep with every player's wife/girlfriend every year the Hawks haven't won the Cup. Impressive. Cheryl Scott is a nice pickup. Looks like he's the true slayer, not Gordon Beckham. -
QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Feb 18, 2015 -> 12:59 PM) Goff left because he probably felt his road at The Score was blocked (all of the shows were pretty solid). Much like how several left to The Game. He just said it never felt right. I'm glad he's back. Only guy I will listen to at the Score religiously. I like Carmen(hate Jurko), so I will be switching to JGoff though. The guy knows his stuff and is willing to talk about other sports other than football.

The Slap looked dumb. The first ever draft commercial about Mexican Avocados had us all cracking up. Especially with the Polar Bear begging to get drafted by Mexico.
