Yeah guys he said when Avi retires in 15 years they'll say it was the greatest trade in white Sox history. It's absurd no matter the context.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ May 2, 2017 -> 04:43 PM) Yup. All of us(including myself) should have read the article before commenting. Whoops. I think the title and formatting kinda led us to answer.

Hmm...he didn't make it very easy to be on the "draft wasn't that bad" camp.

2017 NFL Draft Thread
QUOTE (Sox-35th @ May 2, 2017 -> 11:10 AM) Agreed. It's quite the echo chamber. Add to that people are writing stories about Pace getting swindled and you get a very Bears heavy draft cycle. It's a little ridiculous, though IMHO This is one of those "we know the bears are guilty of doing something stupid, so let's find every piece of evidence and push it in that framing" scenario. Listen - I think there is a higher probability than normal that this is a terrible draft, but in my mind that's 100% because we only had 5 picks. We just can't be in those scenarios. But a perfect example of this is the "John Lynch didn't even know what the bears were doing" ergo the bears were operating stupidly. But reality is the Bears could have been played much worse if they knew bears were after Trubisky. They could have parlayed the "Bears are gonna draft Trubisky, so if you want him you need to pay up" to all the QB leaning teams. Instead they may have "gotten played" but people are so over the top with this "THEY GAVE UP A MOUNTAIN OF PICKS". Had they given up a future first or 2nd, it's crucifiable. But 3rds are basically right. Even with no leverage, the 49ers would be stupid to give it away for less.

President Donald Trump: The Thread
QUOTE (Middle Buffalo @ May 1, 2017 -> 11:12 PM) Our notoriously frugal president probably just doesn't like that the dinner is a charity event. He can take the insults - bigly. But those poor kids can pay for their own schooling. The WHCA gives money to those great charities that are so great that they can't articulate what the charity does.

2017 NFL Draft Thread
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 2, 2017 -> 09:03 AM) Like bmags had said earlier, the one problem I had was that they invited him to the team draft party. If they knew they were making a big splash at QB, then it's a really s***ty look to force him to be there. Other than that, I agree with you. He took the most guaranteed money offered to him, the Bears front loaded the deal so they could cut him after one year. Anybody with a hint of knowledge in sports business could see that coming a mile away. Also there was one original article that had the "felt like he was cheated on" line, and now 1000 articles all saying "Glennon felt cheated on, bears are so stupid" that are just based off of the original article. Kind of amplifying something dumb.

I think that Glennon = mad story is 100% just being blindsided when you are at an OFFICIAL EVENT. It's like when the 76ers brought Michael Carter-Williams to the draft and then drafted Payton. Set him up to get interviewed right after. It's just an easily avoidable, crappy thing to do.

May 1st Game Thread: White Sox at Royals, 7:15PM
QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ May 1, 2017 -> 04:24 PM) Is that what happened to Avi? No problems giving him the day off and really no problem with May getting the ABs. It's just a shame the Sox don't have another intriguing OF like Avi to give some ABs to in a rebuild. Guess they want Garcia down in AAA playing every day. Said he had a tightness in groin area. Nothing serious, but probably a wet surface and why risk it.

As long as May is on the team he will play, especially when one of our outfielders had a tight muscle yesterday.

QUOTE (shipps @ May 1, 2017 -> 04:06 PM) I guess my timeline is all out of sorts. I thought most of that was completed before they signed Glennon. It's around the same time, signed glennon 3/10, combine is the week before. But pro days and private workouts came after.

2017 NFL Draft Thread
QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ May 1, 2017 -> 12:50 PM) There were 70ish trades in this draft. The vast majority were spontaneous. There is plenty of time to get a deal done. It was moronic for Pace to tell Lynch that he'd be willing to offer "at least" two 3rd round picks before the draft started. If that's the way Pace wanted to go, you call up Lynch in the moment and ask him what it would take. All Pace accomplished was letting Lynch know he could drive up the price because he knew how much Pace wanted to trade up. There is a difference between the top 5, and trading down in the 4th when you are talking about single pick sums. How do you think people knew certain teams wanted to trade up and down? You think they don't set baselines?

2017 NFL Draft Thread
QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ May 1, 2017 -> 11:46 AM) OK, what the hell: Why on earth is this understanding already out there, before the draft begins? Pace played his intentions before the cards were dealt. He opened the door for Lynch to drum up some fake interest in the 2nd pick, knowing full well that Pace was willing to pay more for it. What a colossal, moronic mistake by Pace. That is incredibly common. There is not that much time between picks for long negotiations.
