  1. Greetings newbie! Hope you enjoy the discussion around here.
  2. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 28, 2010 -> 01:46 PM) It's not embarrassing as much as its hilarious. Like I said above, the cyclical nature of the criticism in this thread is ironic. On one hand you have someone complaining the the team doesnt build from within, on the other its people saying that the team doesnt go for it at the deadline and in the FA market. Its been a really long time since the White Sox have had such consistently aggressive leadership committed to winning. But like the saying goes, find the hottest girl in the world and I'll show you a guy who is sick of her s***. I thought the saying was show me the hottest girl in the world and I'll show you a guy who's tired of doing her. At any rate, I'm not sure KW and Ozzie would qualify as the "hottest girl in the world". Particularly Kenny, who has 7 postseasons at home out of 9 on his resume with us. He and Oz have done a better job than most White Sox leadership in the past, but that's a case of tallest midget. I will say they have partially been a "victim" (if you want to call it that) of heightened expectations since 2005. But that's what they said they've wanted all along, to raise the standard.
  3. QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Jul 28, 2010 -> 11:23 AM) I was always able to go to the DMV in Oregon, IL. It's just a small little town so the DMV was always empty when I went. No lines! Haha, I can attest to this because I actually ended up at that exact DMV about 5 years ago or so. And indeed, no line.
  4. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 28, 2010 -> 10:58 AM) And it could open up money to take on salary this year for the stretch run. True, although I think our bigger issue right now than taking on salary is lack of prospect depth. Uncle Jerry will let KW make the move if it's helpful IMO, but do we have the prospects to pull a Dunn type move off? I guess we'll know soon.
  5. AJ had better be ready and willing to take a gigantic paycut if he's coming back. And even then, I'm not sure I'd want him.
  6. QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Jul 28, 2010 -> 10:49 AM) Hopefully you would be able to get SOMETHING for Jenks though. I wouldn't just give him away. I think the guy would thrive in the NL. Get a couple prospects for Jenks from the Phillies, and use them to fortify a package for Fielder, Dunn, Edwin Jackson, etc. Jenks really has no value between his salary this year, the salary he'd get in arbitration next year if a team wanted to try and keep him, and the way he's pitching/his stuff looks these days. However, the Sox could just non tender him after the season, so ideally you could move Linebrink and save money that is otherwise a lock on the books for 2011. That'd never happen though, we're not that lucky.
  7. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 25, 2010 -> 03:07 PM) Yes, I feel like the Cubs offense has finally woken up, and their season is not over. They have so many remaining games vs Reds/Cardinals, they can still put a huge dent into the approximately 10 game lead. They're 9.5 out of first (behind two teams!) and a game and a half behind the freaking Brewers. Their season is over, and would still be over had they won Sunday. Your disdain for the Cubs is admirable, but you need to not give them so much credit. Not only do they suck, but their contract situation is so bad that even though they BADLY need to shed some salary, Lilly might be the only guy they're able to dump.
  8. QUOTE (Queen Prawn @ Jul 28, 2010 -> 10:00 AM) Going to the game tonight with a Mariners fan (husband) - I hope to see a good game. Have a good time! There was a Mariners fan sitting in our row yesterday that literally left in the 2nd inning.
  9. Be nice to take the series tonight. Another warm one in Chicago, so hit it high and watch it fly.
  10. QUOTE (Jackie @ Jul 28, 2010 -> 07:25 AM) haha thanks Bren! hopefully I can be a good source of some insider info! will update when i can Woo more inside info! And as NSS72 said, welcome!
  11. Rizzo sounds a lot like their last GM Jim Bowden strictly in the sense that he wants five dollars from you for every dollar he gives up in terms of value.
  12. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jul 27, 2010 -> 03:00 PM) Part agree, part disagree. Agree: If you are too aggressive or try to hard to have a GF, the girl likely won't be right for you and you will probably regret the relationship. Disagree: Men are suppose to be the hunters and women the hunted. Guys initiate the conversation, date asking, etc. most of the time, so if you don't do anything, like nothing will happen to you. You will likely be waiting for a random girl to just see you in the middle of the road and initiate flirting with you. You gotta capture both strategies for the best scenario. Go out, be aggressive, but don't over do it. Just my two cents. While I agree with the bolded, I think you can initiate conversation and date asking without being out there looking for a relationship. I think you have a better chance of finding somebody just by going out and being yourself and letting whatever happens go down than you do thinking "ok, I'm going to find somebody for myself". A lot of times, it just happens, and when you least expect it too.
  13. QUOTE (The Beast @ Jul 27, 2010 -> 02:22 PM) What are your guys' thoughts on "don't go looking for love/lust/a girlfriend, let it/her come find you." I've found it to be true. If you just be yourself and roll with the punches, it seems like the chances of finding somebody increase because you aren't trying too hard. Also, by just being yourself and not trying too hard, it seems like your chances of meeting somebody who you truly connect with increase, because the level of honesty is higher than it is when you're really trying to get with somebody. Just my 2 cents though.
  14. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 27, 2010 -> 01:21 PM) Teahen is not a good outfielder. He'd be really hard pressed to be a worse outfielder than CQ. Plus, DHing CQ might help out with his health issues, and this scenario takes a lot of at bats away from Kotsay and Andruw Jones.
  15. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 27, 2010 -> 09:15 AM) Its either that or a smaller payroll. Smaller payroll it is then if we keep missing the playoffs. Had we not rallied like we did in June, the payroll for next year was going WAY down. At the very least, this run has saved us some payroll reduction for next year IMO.
  16. This looks like such an obvious win for us that it actually kind of scares me it could go the other way. Was at the game last night and will be again tonight, hopefully another win is in the cards.
  17. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 27, 2010 -> 09:10 AM) Alternatively...if ticket price increases are keeping revenue roughly constant despite decreases in attendance...then they're set up well for the next time they make a legitimate playoff/WS run because that will generate added revenue in the good seasons. Oh no I'm sure they have their reasons to raise ticket prices. All I'm saying is you can't raise ticket prices, not produce on the field, then whine (or be surprised, I don't think our organization has whined to be fair, so be surprised is a better term) about attendance. What else do you expect to happen when such a cycle is in place?
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 27, 2010 -> 09:02 AM) They can when attendence has gone down pretty steadily since 2006. Maybe people would be more receptive to consistent ticket price increases (even despite a lousy economy) if the team had more than one playoff win since 2005....
  19. I can't say I want Ozzie and KW gone right now since we're in first place. But I've said for a while now that this regime has underachieved overall, even taking 2005 into account. So if we're at home when the playoffs start again, I can certainly see myself siding with this thread.
  20. If we're not careful, Bobby Jenks could become our Waterloo. This is really unfortunate news, although not surprising.
  21. QUOTE (qwerty @ Jul 25, 2010 -> 03:39 AM) I told you he was a troll. You don't necessarily have to intend on being a troll to be one. Sometimes these sort of things tend to have a way of happening, without knowledge of it. Whether it be, naivety, jejune, or whatever else you want to call it. Just because you don't know any better, doesn't make something right. What that is, is ignorance. Greg, your donation, while a very kind gesture, and i'm sure everyone appreciates it, should never have been brought up. You are better than no one. Donation or not. Same thing goes for everyone. Point is, no one wants a gift, and then have that gift held over them, like they owe that person who gave said gift, the world. You give someone something, that's that, done story, to be forgotten except by those who it affected. You are not a bigger fan, or man, because of your gesture. ''I'm not baiting anybody.'' Great one, greg. One of the biggest lies i have ever heard in my life. How about the 11,334 times you have baited someone? Yadda, yadda, ''just put me on ignore qwerty''! What is the point? Nearly every single post you make is so far out there, that people cannot help but respond, so it would be a lost cause. Generally greg, when someone is in the vast, and boy do i mean vast, minority, it means they are incorrect. As in not even close to the realm of being correct. This of course is not always the case. That is left to the absolute geniuses, those who are so ahead of their time, that others can't even comprehend what they mean. I'm gonna take a stab, and say that is not your particular case. I'm just sick of the level of discussion being brought down further, and further, with you being the ring leader of your circus of clowns. Am i right about everything i just said? Without a doubt. Does nearly every single daily poster/visitor think otherwise? Highly doubtful. Was it mean... but most importantly honest? You bet. Indeed. Greg is an absolute troll and is playing a bit with his posts, as I've said for a while now. If he hadn't made that "donation" to the site, I bet he'd be banned already.
  22. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jul 24, 2010 -> 04:07 PM) Anyone who likes Tyrus Thomas. Says the guy who likes Darko (although I agree with you on TT).
  23. QUOTE (Controlled Chaos @ Jul 23, 2010 -> 01:10 PM) For those who have facebook. I wish I had more money!! Pics from ay Cutler Foundation Charity Cruise. http://www.facebook.com/#!/album.php?a...mp;id=604459688 eenie meenie miney moe Ehh the hotties are fine, but all they want is his money. I like pretty ladies, but not if that's their motivation.
  24. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 24, 2010 -> 10:12 PM) Is there a way I can block your horrendous signature? He's attempting to play message board heel, just like a real heel on one of his wrestling shows. Don't let it bother you.
  25. Greg, I have a question, and don't take it the wrong way because I'm not trying to be sarcastic or make fun of you, this is a serious question. Are you on some sort of drugs?
