  1. QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Jul 20, 2009 -> 06:17 PM) I want to be the meat in a Slayer/Q sandwich. I believe it would have to be Slayer. at spring training he was a lot more amiable and seemed to connect with the people more while Q seemed to reserved and quiet. I don't know how this would translate into a man crush. I think Beckham would be more of a Ho while I think Q could be trusted more.
  2. We might want to check the stars alignment. After all with Quentin's return and Beckham in the lineup we'll have two saviors on the same team. I'm not sure if that has ever happened before.
  3. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 20, 2009 -> 05:00 PM) That'll be a loss. Colon has pitched a few outstanding games this season. One can always hope.
  4. QUOTE (qwerty @ Jul 20, 2009 -> 04:57 PM) Sure it's flawed. The most flawed statistics out there are the common stats everyone follows like a religion, ops, slugging, obp, average, rbi's, wins, losses. The tricky thing is determining where the truth lies. Sabermetricians want to know if what their eyes tell them is true, and the vast majority of the time the eyes do not lie. The fun is finding what exactly is not what it appears be on the surface, which is where they come in, visuals can be deceiving, in all walks of life. Using Gameday to build a fielding metric (Part 1) Using Gameday to build a fielding metric (Part 2) Raw data is better than nothing at all Everything stems from something at one point in time to help benefit later down the road. We are most definitely heading in the right direction with this breakthrough. Carlos is great but not against lefties. Presently he is hitting only .167 against southpaws. Fields actually hits lefties quite well about 30 points higher than when a right hander is on the mound.
  5. QUOTE (DaveBrown85 @ Jul 18, 2009 -> 09:05 AM) oh man i've long forgotten about Rob Ozzie's decision to play Wise doesn't make sense to anyone except maybe a golfer like the "Hawk". The only way I can make sense is to think that Hawk speaks to Guillen with golf terms. In this scenario Hawk tries to explain how good golfer's has a handicap to make the better golfer more equal to his golfing opponent. Starting wise levels the playing field when we play lesser opponents. Ozzie however; doesn't know when to stop and plays our Mendozzaesque player all the time.
  6. Orioles seem to play the sox well. If it weren't for yesterday's performance by Thome. That game could have had a different outcome. Buehrle will pitch against Guthrie. I hope Mark has his best stuff because the Orioles don't lack in hitting and have a rather potent lineup. I hope our all star stifles their hitters and keeps the O's bats silent.
  7. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 17, 2009 -> 08:55 PM) Supposedly, there are velocity and stamina concerns, based on his AAA performance at OKC to date...to the point where they didn't feel they could take the risk of letting him get his velocity and control back by experimenting in the heat of a pennant race. Kind of the same issue we already have on our hands with Freddy Garcia and Bartolo Colon. Maybe if he can't do anything for us this year how about giving him a chance to work with our young pitchers. Pitching coach? A reunion with Contreras. I remember something about how he positively impacted Contreras. Does he have enough for another go round here at the cell. I thought he was at the end of his career then. Those Cubans don't age. Ponce Deleon thought the fountain of youth was in Florida he may have missed it by a few miles it just might have been in Cuba.
  8. sign him. but I don't believe that mid level prospects won't do it. Someone on the active roster.
  9. QUOTE (kwolf68 @ Jul 6, 2009 -> 02:46 PM) A LOT of pitchers pitch well into their late 30s and Roy seems to be a guy who has an arm made of rubber. A rotation of Halladay, Buehrle, Danks, Count and Floyd has World Title written all over it. Since he is 33, a premier pitcher I would say Doc will be asking for a 3 or 4 year extension. Reinsdorf doesn't like to sign pitchers long term.
  10. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Jul 6, 2009 -> 02:14 PM) Beckham would be the only untouchable in my book.Ok, Allen, Poreda, Richards and Fields. We in return get Halladay and Scott Rolen.
  11. To get Halladay it will take something special. Players salary is a great concern for the Blue Jays. I would say maybe Brandon Allen, and Poreda. just a guess.
  12. QUOTE (Jimbo's Drinker @ Jul 6, 2009 -> 12:36 AM) Wish we could just use him as our DH, oh wellIf he is running tentatively let him rehab long enough. the last thing we want to do is let him play at 70% resulting him never returning to 100%.
  13. In an interview on the score last year. Cooper had nothing but praise for Clayton. Clayton has had some success better than most. Oh, yes today he had some bad luck. He gave up some seeing eye grounders and some duck snorts. Cooper knows when he needs to come out. With some experience he will be an adequate #5. He also may be showcased for a possible trade for an established starter. He could be worthwile in a trade for a rental. I'm afraid if traded he'll do better than ok somewhere else.
  14. I don't understand giving grades to our players. Are you a teacher or something. This is a team not a classroom. The second half of the season may yield entirely different results. Beckham has been coming around Dye, Getz even Fields might put it together. We can finish judging them at the end of the season. Another point 84 and 77 is not going to get us into the playoffs . 90 wins isn't a guaranteed of getting in but if we were to make it to 90 your a b c and d grade pitchers and hitters need to step up so they can get a scholarship. Our record for the second half needs to be 48 and 33.How can you be undecided about Beckham? He is the second coming. If we make it to the playoffs that will be a new season where any team can be hot except the CUBS.
  15. QUOTE (Texsox @ Jul 3, 2009 -> 08:29 PM) There was a time in 2006, and possibly into 2007, when I thought BA could blossom outside of the Sox organization. Now I think at some point he will be with 5 teams in 5 years and just kind of hang around. I believe BA would fluorish as a national leaguer.
  16. QUOTE (hogan873 @ Jul 1, 2009 -> 11:38 AM) I voted yes by winning the division. I suppose it's an optimistic yes. I don't see the Wild Card coming out of the AL Central. I voted yes even though I have my doubts. Last year we won because of the unexpected play of TCQ and Ramirez. This year we are getting unexpected play from Pods, Beckham causing the whole team to gel. Problem we get a very good season from Dye, Konerko, Buehrle and now we still need TCQ to come back in mvp form. If our pitching stays is adequate we might have a chance.
  17. As Yogi Berra once said it isn't over until it is over may have described the way this season could end with the sox playing 6 of their last nine games against the tigers. Of course I would rather see the sox play like crazy and be ahead of the tigers and the pennant clinched but I could certainly be exciting if the season ending with a sox win in our last series against the Tigers giving us the A.L. Central crown
  18. QUOTE (BearSox @ Jun 28, 2009 -> 07:26 PM) I got the impression that he just doesn't care anymore about managing. Also, that was a great quote by Ozzie. If he wasn't dissing or trying to diss the sox why was it important for him to mention how low the L.A sox attendance was 22,000. When a Cub fans wants to diss the Sox they just mentions attendance.
  19. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jun 20, 2009 -> 02:07 PM) Street and Valverde on the market too will lessen Jenks value. KW likes to strike early, I think now is the time to get into discussions. Jenks will be getting a very good raise next year be it from the whitesox or someone else. If we are to get the max in return it won't be from a team that has already gone into the sell mode.
  20. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 16, 2009 -> 10:58 AM) Great post and welcome!!!! I actually think it would be more benficial for Dayan to start again in AA next year and see how he has progressed. I also think he should get a cup of coffee this fall in the majors to take a look at what he is up against. He is probably another 2 years away from the majors, but looks VERY on track. I think the sox orgainzation is encouraged by his progress but I think two years away is not what management has in mind. Just conjecture on my part but I believe Viciedo will get little rest this fall and winter because I believe he will be playing in the Arizona fall league and maybe some winter leagues. and maybe more exposure in spring training. I have no idea how he'll fare in Spring training but if he doesn't make it there I believe he'll be on the fast track to the majors. We gave Dayan a 4 year contract for good money I just think that they want him to produce on the mlb lever quicker.
  21. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jun 16, 2009 -> 10:00 AM) Barry Zito - meet the American League. If they dfa him they'll get nothing. Anything is possible.
  22. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jun 15, 2009 -> 08:45 PM) Booing a player might encourage those in charge to get rid of a player. Wise is what he is. A little guy with a good work ethic and a lot of heart. I watched him during spring training what is he 31 or so has made it to the big league albeit not the greatest talent but I don't believe it is because a lack of effort. Booing somebody should be they're lazy and don't try. Not going after a foul ball or jogging instead of running. That I've not seen from Wise instead I see a man trying his hardest but coming up a little short on talent. KW and Ozzie putting him out to start batting him 5th is just gross mismanagement. Imagine platooning a player to only face right handed pitching and still only mustering a .133 average or playing someone like Wise who can't hit lefties and expectint different results. No, Dwayne isn't a great player but he is a player that lacks talent. Ozzie is a manager that doesn't understand that grinderness which I think Wise has can trump talent. It can't. Ozzie, K.w. are responsible for not having a better centerfielder. I believe Wise does play 100% but just lacks talent. I guess we should just groan. Booing someone does a lot for one's self esteem especially when the person we're booing is doing his best. He'll never be an all star. No matter what. But maybe if Ozzie insists on playing him we don't cheer for him rather than boo him Dwayne might surprise us and hit .200.
  23. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jun 14, 2009 -> 11:38 PM) I think the minute we get about half a dozen back in the division, and things don't look bright for us to get back in the race, that's about the only time we'll be seeing this organization look to Danks2 as a legitimate option. He still has a lot of things to work out in the minors, remember he was never as polished as Beckham was throughout his baseball career. Danks did well in Arizona fall league and so far he is moving fast in our minor league system. I realize he doesn't have Beckhams polish and perhaps he does need a little more seaoning in the minors. If we play Anderson everyday in center we could use a nice lefty bat off the bench or fourth outfielder. In our minor league system we just don't have much I believe a trade could be the order of the day. But I'm not sure who is available for KW. I don't want to say fields as trade bait for another outfielder but that is about all that I would give up .
  24. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Jun 14, 2009 -> 10:09 PM) To happen to do well while in the 2-hole vs. doing the 2-hole things well are two different things. We all know Alexei's skills set and it's tailor made for being lower in the order. He is taking more pitches, yes. But the ways in which he's producing now are still things that he could do effectively from lower in the order. Ventura, I believe batted number 2 for the sox, wITH tcq hitting the way he did las year we all saw how his short quick swing not only produced home runs but solid singles and doubles when we needed them. Bunting!! AJ? who on this sox team can bunt?
